It's been wonderful watching Capcom flourish over the past several years. Following a bit of a downturn in the early '10s with games like the floundering Lost Planet series and DMC: Devil May Cry, as well as the criminally overlooked Asura's Wrath, things were looking a little dire for the legacy publisher, which was…

Intel is cooking up a budget eight-core gaming CPU, according to leak

Intel is reportedly working on a new budget gaming CPU with eight cores, which is likely to form part of the company's new Arrow Lake lineup. According to this latest leak, the new CPU will come under the new Intel Core Ultra 3 umbrella and will be "much stronger" than Intel's existing 14th-gen Core i3 CPUs.

There aren't any Core i3 CPUs listed on our current guide to the best gaming CPU, with our recommendations starting at the six-core Intel Core i5 12400F, but that could all change if Intel can make a budget eight-core chip that can deliver the goods.

Westwood's strategy series is on a semi hiatus and we haven't heard from Cavedog's classic since 2000 and the Iron Plague expansion pack, but the spirits of these games live on. You might have played Planetary Annihilation, the 2015 mech-themed tactics game that feels like a thematic successor to its erstwhile namesake. Beloved on Steam, it's now, some ten years later, in line for a sequel - under a fresh banner, the team behind Planetary Annihilation has opened a Kickstarter for a new RTS and factory building hybrid. It's early days yet, but this could be something very special. Get ready for Industrial Annihilation.

Best Alienware laptops for gaming in 2024

Alienware has been a staple in the premium gaming laptop space since its first Area 51m was released all the way back in 2002. Made by Dell, Alienware gaming laptops are dedicated, high-end machines built proudly with power in mind. They're not cheap by any means, and likely never will be, but they are some of the best gaming laptops out there.

Alienware gaming laptops offer a massive amount of power, performance, cutting-edge tech, and visually stunning designs. We've rounded up some of the best buys on the market today, from the 18-inch Alienware M18 to the compact Alienware X14 R1. Most machines can be customized to your liking, which allows you to tailor your purchase to your budget and needs like a premium gaming laptop boutique.

When shopping for an Alienware laptop, it's best to avoid the very top-end specs if your budget is tight. Older Alienware laptops offer better value; the Alienware M17 certainly holds its own with its Ryzen 7 6800H CPU and RTX 3070 Ti CPU.

Of course, if you have deeper pockets then Alienware's latest and greatest generation of gaming laptops are sure to please. The M16 and M16 both feature RTX 4080s paired high-refresh 16:10 displays, while the Alienware X16 offers a premium experience and is predictably our most expensive option on show today.

Whether you want a laptop for esports, a graphic powerhouse or a light and thin laptop you can take with you when traveling, you'll find the best Alienware gaming laptops below.

InZOI release date window, trailers, gameplay, and latest news

When is the InZOI release date? The 'next-gen' life sim is the latest in Krafton's stable, and it's got the life sim community all a-flutter. While the South Korean company is most known for the likes of PUBG Battlegrounds and Dark and Darker, this time around, it's got a potential successor to The Sims series on its hands.

InZOI joins Sims 4 competitors Life by You and Paralives in their efforts to unseat EA's genre-defining giant from its throne, though it appears to be striking in a very different direction from its peers. Instead of limitless customization or a stylized dream house, InZOI aims to turn heads with photorealistic visuals – a real first for life games. Do we have a Sims rival on our hands? That remains to be seen – for now, here's everything we know about the InZOI release date, including the latest trailers and gameplay footage.

After 20 years, the beloved RPG series Fate is suddenly coming back

It scares me slightly to think that games from 2005 could now be considered 'retro,' but time marches inexorably on. Last Epoch and Diablo 4 are carrying the torch for action RPGs nowadays. For the more focused dungeon-crawling experience, we have the Torchlight series and upcoming Path of Exile 2. But before all of these games, back in the now authentically classic days of the early '00s, there was Fate and its three sequels. Boasting a 95% Steam rating even to this day, WildTangent's ARPG may have faded a little into the annals of gaming history, but it's about to make a gigantic comeback.

Unofficial new Skyrim DLC feels like it was actually made by Bethesda

13 years since Skyrim first arrived, and with Bethesda's attention currently turned towards Starfield and Shattered Space, the days of official new material for the fantasy RPG are almost certainly behind us. But The Elder Scrolls 5 is eternal. From the maker of superlative Fallout 4 mod Sim Settlements, Bards College, a new, unofficial Skyrim expansion, is so professional, so polished, and so big that it feels like it's come directly from the House of Howard. The Elder Scrolls 6 may be a while away, but we now have a new quest line, expanded shouts, music and singing mechanics, and, essentially, a fresh full faction to rival the Thieves Guild and the Blades. Oh, and the whole thing is out right now.

Nvidia's RTX 4070 drops to its lowest ever price, but only in the UK

Here's some awesome news if you live in the UK, and you're looking to upgrade your GPU. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 can now be bought for just £450 (~$478 accounting for tax differences), thanks to this amazing graphics card deal at Overclockers. That's an incredible price for this GPU, which was priced at $599 (£589) when it first launched in 2023.

The vanilla Nvidia RTX 4070 has since been usurped by the new RTX 4070 Super on our guide to the best graphics card, but it's still a great all-round GPU, particularly at this price. In this case, the card in question is a white MSI Ventus 2X OC model, which not only looks good but also overclocks the GPU to a 2,520MHz boost clock, giving you a 45MHz bump over the standard specs.

Its sequel, Splitgate 2 is continuing that gimmick but is also sprucing up the free-to-play arena shooter with a few modern additions, like bum-sliding around corners and big deployable bubbles called "time domes" that slow down your enemies yet speed up your allies. All this and more comes from a gameplay trailer that went up yesterday.

Yesterday, Nic took James and I on a tour of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's co-op campaign. A merry old time was had, romping through fortress cities like a small herd of crusader buffalo, using the game's absurd jetpack functionality to pancake invading Tyranids, and getting our screens so slathered in gore we couldn't work out who was killing what.

It looks like the gargantuan action game's PvP multiplayer will be even messier. Saber and Focus Home have released an extended trailer that walks you through two major modes - the PvE boss and wave-slaying frenzy of Operations, and the 12-player PvP carnage of Eternal War, which spans a range of match types. The ecstasy of dying for the Emperor aside, both give me frightful flashbacks to the early days of Gears Of War.

Dragon Quest Slime Plush Doubles as Tablet and PC Cleaner

Square Enix opened pre-orders on its online e-store for a Dragon Quest slime plush that doubles as a cleaner for smartphone, tablets, and PC screens. The slime cleaner plush costs 1,188 yen (or about $8) and is expected to release in Japan on October 19, 2024.

The Slime plush is similar to previously released versions in appearance, with the main body using a regular polyester soft toy material. Meanwhile, the bottom of the plush uses a softer fabric similar to that of cleaning cloths. This bottom part is designed to wipe fingerprints and smudges off of screens without damaging them, by grabbing the main body of the Slime and rubbing the bottom on smartphone, tablet, or PC screens.

You can check out the Dragon Quest Slime cleaner plush here:

Earlier in June 2024, Square Enix announced the re-release of 3 classic Dragon Quest villain plushes belonging to the Legendary Demon King line, featuring the Dragonlord, Malroth, and Zoma from DQ1 through DQ3. Additionally, a Liquid Metal Slime electric floor cleaner is now available as a crane game prize in Japan.

The Dragon Quest slime tablet and PC screen cleaner plush costs 1,188 yen (~$8) and is now available for pre-order from the Square Enix online e-store.

Okami Amaterasu in Kunitsu-Gami

Amaterasu, the protagonist of Okami, has appeared in Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. Capcom added the character as a static Mazo Talisman in a title update which it also released to celebrate the 500,000 players milestone for the game.

The company has been adding content inspired by Okami into Kunitsu-Gami following a successful campaign in the game's demo version. The lineup includes alternate costumes like an Amaterasu-inspired armor for the game's protagonist Soh and new arrangements for several Okami tracks, such as "The Sun Rises."

While the previous Okami crossover content had to be accessed via the Extras menu, Kunitsu-Gami players will be able to find Amaterasu on the Mazo Talisman list in-game after applying the latest update. Setting this talisman will generate a trail of flowers on Soh's movement path, just like the effects that Amaterasu had in the original Okami game.

Okami's Amaterasu is not the only Mazo Talisman Capcom added in this update. The company also brought in two new original talismans. The Jubilee talisman will entice villagers nearby Soh to start dancing, while the Dancing Crane will launch fireworks when Soh dances with the regular attack button.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is readily available worldwide on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.

Final Fantasy XIV European Data Center Shadow Closing

In June 2024, Square Enix opened the Final Fantasy XIV European Data Center Shadow to prepare for the Dawntrail expansion, and now it announced the FFXIV Logical Data Center will be shut down. Its last day is August 27, 2024, but people will no longer be able to its four Worlds as of August 16, 2024.

In the announcement, Square Enix noted that the goal of this European Data Center was to help with congestion when the expansion launched. The worlds Innocence, Pixie, Titania, and Tycoon were all opened there. All four worlds did appear as Congested for periods following launch.

To prepare for the shutdown of the Shadow European Data Center, Final Fantasy XIV players were advised to use the various travel systems to head to their Home World. While the four worlds there will be open until August 27, 2024, Square Enix suggested people go back prior to that date. However, it also noted that when Innocence, Pixie, Titania, and Tycoon close, maintenance will be conducted and any players still there will be sent back to their Home Worlds during that process.

Europe wasn't the only region that experienced World changes and additions ahead of Dawntrail. Square Enix also opened new Final Fantasy XIV Worlds in North America. Dynamis ended up getting Cuchulainn, Golem, Kraken, and Rafflesia.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the European Data Center Shadow and its four worlds will close on August 27, 2024.

Terry Bogard has been one of SNK's most recognizable characters in the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series. Capcom will also add him as a guest character in Street Fighter 6 via DLC with his iconic red cap and attire. As a side note, both Takashi Kondo and Michael Schneider will reprise their respective Japanese and English roles for Terry in Capcom's game.

In City of the Wolves, SNK is using the older looks of Terry Bogard based on his appearance in Garou: Mark of the Wolves. SNK is also revamping the looks of other well-known characters like Billy Kane.

SNK will release Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC worldwide in early 2025.

Impa Appears in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Nintendo recently updated the Japanese official website for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom to feature new characters that will be appearing including Impa, the King of Hyrule, and Zelda's new ally, Tri.

In Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Impa is an elderly woman and Zelda's caretaker, and she offers her unwavering support to Zelda. Meanwhile, Impa's brother Ruberi is a researcher investigating the rifts that are appearing all around Hyrule. Tri is Zelda's new ally accompanying her in Echoes of Wisdom, a fairy that possesses the mysterious power to replicate things in the world.

As is usual in The Legend of Zelda games, the King of Hyrule is Zelda's father. Other members of the Hyrule Kingdom government include Sadali, a polite and reliable minister in the court, and General Ugi, a military man with a strong sense of justice. As shown in the reveal trailer, Link is the Hero of Hyrule who rescues Zelda from the evil Ganon. The official website indicates that there might be a connection between Ganon and the strange rifts appearing in Hyrule, but something seems amiss.

The latest trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom showed various locations from the game, as well as Zelda being able to ride a horse to traverse Hyrule and equipping various different accessories and pieces of clothing.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will come to the Nintendo Switch on September 26, 2024.
