PCGamesN Thursday, October 3, 2024 1:53 PM Sometimes, a game's title does most of the work toward grabbing an audience's attention. Yesterday, the launch of Kill Knight served as one example, while the past has given us striking one word titles like Doom, Ultrakill, and Bloodborne. The announcement of a new game called Psycho Dead, which, like Doom, really feels like it ought to be written out entirely in capital letters, is another entry to this pantheon of eye-catching names. Fortunately, its mix of Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, and Control's survival horror and telekinetic powers looks to provide gruesome action on a level to fit its title. |

PCGamesN Thursday, October 3, 2024 12:55 PM It's always great when a game manages to pull off first-person parkour without making players feel horribly nauseated in the process. PCGamesN Thursday, October 3, 2024 12:38 PM The soulslike explosion brought on by FromSoftware hasn't always yielded the best results. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring set the bar high, while not many imitators manage to reach it. There are some neat ideas but the mechanical friction and the world's disregard for the player, both of which are needed to make a soulslike play like its namesake, are often missing or poorly designed. PCGamesN Thursday, October 3, 2024 12:05 PM After the catastrophic launch of the GeForce RTX 4080, where one card ended up being "unlaunched" and the final card had a ridiculously high price tag stuck on it, we're hoping that Nvidia has learned some lessons for this GPU's successor. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 specs and performance are rumored to offer several improvements over the RTX 4080, but without rocking the boat too much. While the RTX 5090 looks set to be the Nvidia flagship in this next GPU generation, where it's likely to take the best graphics card medal, the RTX 5080 should be much cheaper. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, October 3, 2024 3:02 PM I miss the height of Wordle mania not because of the game itself, which I still play on occasion, but because of the torrent of delightful, experimental browser-based puzzle games that followed in its wake. Both as a console maker and afterward as a third-party publisher, SEGA has released a lot of JRPGs. From the likes of Phantasy Star all the way up to the modern age of Like A Dragon, the distinct and varied library of SEGA JRPGs is one well-worth exploring. For those looking to dive into the classics, we've got a selection of some of the best retro SEGA JRPGs for you to enjoy.
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
SEGA's first big RPG franchise was Phantasy Star. The first game was among the earliest JRPGs to get released outside of Japan and is one of the Master System's best games. Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium, meanwhile, closed out the franchise's SEGA Genesis era with style. The unusual sci-fi setting, cool manga-style cut-scenes, and fast-paced battle system come together to form one of the best retro SEGA JRPGs a person could ask for.
Defenders of Oasis
For a handheld console of its era, the Game Gear had quite a few strong RPGs released on it. Several of them saw releases in the West, and it's Defenders of Oasis that carried the traditional JRPG banner among that bunch. Another JRPG that opted to pass on a typical fantasy setting, Defenders of Oasis instead is based on the classic Arabian Nights setting. A heroic prince must save his people from an evil force, all with the help of a mighty Jinn. A truly spell-binding adventure, and there isn't much else out there like it.
Shining Force III
The Shining Force games have always had one foot in the tactical turn-based RPG genre and the other in the tradition JRPG framework. This SEGA Saturn release is actually three games, but only one of them saw official release outside of Japan. The idea was to show the events of the story from multiple perspectives. Each scenario can be played as its own game, but when you combine them you get something genuinely epic. Easily one of the best retro SEGA JRPGs, and one that needs a rerelease badly.
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shifting the SEGA Saturn's most famous rail shooter into a JRPG was a gutsy move, but it's one that paid off for Panzer Dragoon Saga. Panzer Dragoon's setting always felt like it extended beyond the borders of those shooters, and Saga allowed players to fully explore it. You'll travel the world on foot and on the back of your dragon. The battle system blends turn-based strategy and action in a very unique way. One more outstanding SEGA Saturn RPG that desperately needs to find its way back to the market again.
Shining in the Darkness
This is the game that kicked off the Shining series. Shining in the Darkness is an excellent dungeon crawling JRPG with challenging turn-based combat. You'll want to bring some graph paper with you, as its mazes can be difficult to navigate without a map. Whether you make your own maps or borrow them, it's worth the extra effort. Learning the dungeon layouts while slowly increasing the capabilities of your party proves to be a compelling concoction. The later Saturn sequel is also worth checking out, if you can.
Let us know what your favorite retro SEGA JRPG is below!

Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama sat down with Famitsu during TGS2024 to talk about the upcoming Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster. The developers addressed Luca Blight's intense dialogue as well as Richmond smoking in Suikoden 2. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The Famitsu interviewer pointed out that Suikoden 2 villain Luca Blight had some extreme lines in the original game release, and asked if such content will remain in the upcoming HD remaster. Sakiyama responded that the development team decided to keep Luca Blight's extreme dialogue.
As for changes made to the games, Sakiyama confirmed that Richmond has "quit smoking" in Suikoden 2, as the character will not be seen with his cigarette for the HD remaster, and all mentions of ashtrays or smoking are no longer present.
Additionally, the developers shared the CERO ratings for the games across platforms and re-releases. The PlayStation version of Suikoden 2 was rated CERO: A in Japan, the lowest possible and the equivalent of an E rating on ESRB in North America. Meanwhile, the PSP version had a CERO: B rating, restricting the game to 12-year-olds and above. Finally, for the HD remaster the games will be rated CERO: C, suitale for ages 15 and up.
The Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster will come to the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2025. The original games appeared on the PlayStation worldwide, as well as on PSP as a collection that was exclusive to Japan.

Prime 1 Studio opened pre-orders for a new figure of Makoto Niijima in her Queen outfit from Persona 5 accompanied by her Persona Johanna. A regular version of Makoto by herself is also available, and the figures are expected to release between January and April 2026.
The Makoto and Johanna version of the figure costs $1,499 or ¥247,390, and it depicts Makoto or Queen in her Phantom Thief outfit alongside her Persona. Makoto is resting on Johanna in her bike form. The figure includes various hand parts that can be exchanged to make Makoto look like her hands are resting on the bike handle, or like they are holding her weapons or her mask. The base has blue, red, and white motifs alongside the Persona 5 logo, as well as blue flame parts imitating the Persona summoning from the games.
Meanwhile, the version of the figure featuring only Makoto costs $899 or ¥148,390. Makoto is depicted in a similar pose to the Johanna version. However, her left leg is lowered and Makoto has a more dynamic pose. The base includes similar motifs and colors with the exception of the blue flames.
Other upcoming Prime 1 Studio figures include a new prototype of Juri from Street Fighter 6 that was shown during Wonder Festival 2024 Summer, back in late July 2024.
The new Prime 1 Studio figure of Makoto and Johanna from Persona 5 costs $1,499/¥247,390, while the Makoto version costs $899 or ¥148,390. The figures are now available for pre-order and they are expected to release between January and April 2026.

While the Crayon Shin-chan manga and anime series rely on goofy, childish humor, Shin-Chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation and the upcoming Shiro and the Coal Town games are quieter reflections on lazy summer days and everyday life as a child. After getting to spend a few in-game days with it, this sequel again feels like an opportunity to take your time and enjoy small-town life. However, at the same time, I can already see how it builds the sense of wonder a small child may experience.
As in Shin-Chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation, Shiro and the Coal Town brings Shinnosuke and his family to a whole new area. This time, he and his family are in Akita. Since his dad is working and mother is preoccupied with caring for his sister Himawari, there's the same degree of freedom given to him (and by extension us) to explore the countryside.
As a result, there's this carefree element established. It's summer. Time passes slowly as we wander, talk to people living in the area, and engage in activities. Unlike the other Crayon Shin-chan game, Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town sort of begins with us expecting to know what we're getting up to. At the same time, it's still gradually easing us into this new life. Since we're in Akita, his grandparents Ginnosuke and Tsuru are around all the time as well, adding to the ambiance and experience.
This means that the first days don't even feel like a tutorial. They're more like spending time with family. Ginnosuke arrives first thing to take Shinnosuke out. On the first day, we head up to where a bus station is and past a train to learn to catch bugs with what was originally Shinnosuke's father's net. We discover a key mechanic of catching or finding flora and fauna and reporting it to a young woman putting together a book. We learn how catching specific bugs or fish, say a masu salmon, and bringing it to a certain character can mean rewards, friendship, and access to a new area.
It really feels like the first few days in Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town are about getting comfortable and settling in, which makes sense both for the story and the game in general. After all, this is a Boku no Natsuyasumi experience. The goal is to take life slowly and enjoy things as they happen. Appreciate the wider vistas and views. It's definitely something that comes up here, even early on. Akita is a beautiful, small town and the first few areas we gain access to embrace the countryside appeal. At at time period, the world around Shinnosuke changes and possibilities do as well.
It once again feels like Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town could turn out to be one of those incredibly soothing games. The daily life approach is sound. It takes its time in a way that doesn't feel tedious in its initial days. Plus, the extra incorporation of known Crayon Shin-chan characters and fast introduction and involvement of newcomers feels like it is setting up a sense of community.
Shin-chan: Shiro and the Coal Town will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC on October 24, 2024.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster Director Tatsuya Ogushi and Lead Planner Takahiro Sakiyama said that the new HD remaster is based on the PSP collection. That compilation of the first two games in the series released exclusively on the handheld in Japan. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
When asked about previous re-releases of the first two Suikoden titles, Ogushi said that the source code and data used in the upcoming HD remaster are based on the PSP version. However, due to some issues present in the original release of the Suikoden 1 and 2 PSP version the developers made a lot of changes to the HD remaster.
Ogushi and Sakiyama then offered some examples of fixes and changes made to the PSP version. For example, in a particular cutscene involving character Luca Blight, a character that should have been invisible could be seen on the side of the screen. Another one includes being unable to complete a recipe. The rest of the changes seem to focus on polishing some details, such as fixing typos.
Because of this, Ogushi said that the Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster will be very different from the games present in the PSP version. Furthermore, Ogushi added that the remaster won't have the extra content added to the Sega Saturn version.
Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster will come to the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on March 6, 2025. The original games appeared on the PlayStation worldwide and on a PSP collection that was exclusive to Japan.

HoYoVerse announced that a character who appeared in Part 1.5 of the Honkai Impact 3rd story will become playable in Part 2, as Vita is getting a Battlesuit. It is known as Lone Planetfarer. The S-Rank character will appear in the 7.8 update expected to launch in October 2024.
The initial Vita announcement involved a look at her art, details about her as a unit, and photos teasing what might be the best weapons and Stigmata for her. She's a MECH type Battlesuit who deals Lightning damage, and she is Astral Ring compatible. Like Senadina, who was introduced in Part 2, Vita uses Drive Cores to attack. These are one of the newer weapon types in the game. Both of the ones shown in her images are new five and six star ones in the game. Likewise, the Stigmata also appear to be newer ones.
Here's the gallery with images of her that HoYoVerse shared.
HoYoVerse also shared a comic starring Vita and mascot Ai-chan following the announcement. It offers a hint at the character's personality.
The appearance of the Vita Honkai Impact 3rd Battlesuit means we have an idea of who the featured character for both 7.8 and 7.9 will be. The November 2024 update will be the one when the Honkai: Star Rail crossover appears. The latest teaser for that suggested that Sparkle, a 5-star character who debuted in the Penacony storyline, will become a playable unit in Honkai Impact 3rd. She'd be the second HoYoVerse crossover character, as the previous one was Fischl from Genshin Impact.
Honkai Impact 3rd is available on PCs and mobile devices, and the Vita battlesuit will be a part of the 7.8 update.

Now that Heihachi Mishima is about to debut as Tekken 8 DLC, Producer Katsuhiro Harada took to social media to discuss the character's family line and illegitimate children and explain why there are so many. Essentially, it comes down to the Devil Gene and determining how it is connected to the Mishima family line.
Editor's Note: There will be spoilers for Heihachi Mishima, his children and family, and Tekken 8 characters below.
This all started after Harada retweeted a comic featuring Heihachi Mishima and Reina. When doing so, he commented on the relationship between the two and noted, "Heihachi has numerous illegitimate children."
Harada then followed that statement with another comment that included extended commentary on the family line. In that tweet, he noted that there are many illegitimate children who would call Heihachi Mishima "dad," aside from the ones we know about, as part of an investigation into Devil Gene inheritance.
We know that Heihachi had Kazuya with his wife Kazumi. In Tekken 6, Lars Alexandersson appeared. It turned out he is also Heihachi's son. Then in Tekken 8, Reina was introduced and revealed to be his daughter. Based on the events of Tekken 7, we know that Kazumi carried the Devil Gene.
Tekken 8 is available on the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and Heihachi will appear as DLC on October 4, 2024.

Build-a-Bear opened up orders for a Cubone Pokemon plush, and the stuffed animal is only available as a bundle online. It costs $70.50.
This is one of those Pokemon stuffed animals with certain requirements. People can't opt to get the Cubone unstuffed, so they could take it to a store and have it done on their own. There's no explanation why. However, as the helmet and the bone it carries in its right hand are more intricate and attached, it might have something to do with that. The plush also comes with a five-in-one sound chip with noises made by the character.
In addition to the plush, which is 13 inches tall, people get two outfits with the character. There is a Cubone Poncho the character can wear. As it is a ground-type, it is brown to match. There is also a hat and blanket it can wear, as a sort of pajama outfit.
Here's how that looks:
Note that while the Cubone Build-a-Bear plush is available in the North American storefront that covers the US and Canada, this Pokemon stuffed animal isn't showing up in the UK online store yet. The last one it is showing is the Mimikyu bundle for £63.50. That bundle, which is only available online, launched back in September 2024 and is a returning offer that usually shows up around the holiday.
