Thalassophobia is an unsurprisingly common fear among us humans, given how we're air breathers who at best can scrape the surface of our planet's seas. Now, it's time to brave the deeps all over again with the official reveal of Subnautica 2 - but at least you won't have to go alone.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 system requirements drop huge storage demands

The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 system requirements show that you won't need to clear too much space on your SSD as this new incarnation requires just a third of what its chunky predecessor needed.

Elsewhere, while you can get away without needing the best graphics card, if you want the smoothest experience while playing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, you might want to upgrade your internet connection. Early indications show that up to 180Mbps is required at times in order to stream the required map and environmental data. Despite this, only a 50Mbps connection is suggested as a requirement on the Steam store page.

AMD Ryzen 9800X3D gaming CPU reportedly coming very soon, but there's a catch

The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is reportedly going to be announced very soon, according to the latest word on the rumor mill. If this latest leak is correct, then AMD is apparently planning to spoiler the Intel Arrow Lake launch by announcing the 9800X3D the day after the CPUs are released, but it also looks as though there's a big catch with this new chip.

If that rumored release window does indeed turn out to be the case, then the Intel Arrow Lake launch is going to be hit hard. Even Intel admits that, in all likeliness, the 9800X3D will beat the Core Ultra 9 285K when it comes to gaming performance, and it now looks as though there won't be a honeymoon period for Intel's new chips when they come out, leaving AMD to pick up the best gaming CPU medal almost straight away.

Qualcomm is pausing its bid to buy Intel for now, according to reports

Qualcomm's Intel takeover bid is on ice, at least for now. According to sources, the mobile chip maker is reportedly holding off on approaching Intel with a purchase offer due to the uncertainty caused by the US presidential election in a few weeks time, seeking "clarity" over who is going to take over in the Oval Office before it makes a bid or not.

Intel hasn't had the best year so far. Its current-gen Intel Raptor Lake CPUs have faced voltage instability issues that caused permanent damage, its share price has dropped over 50% since January, and in the battle to make the best gaming CPUs, it continues to lag behind AMD. Qualcomm, meanwhile, has seen its latest Snapdragon X Plus CPUs chip away at Intel and AMD's hold over the market in the latest Windows Copilot+ laptops.

RailGods of Hysterra is a bizarre new Lovecraftian survival game

There's something so unique about Lovecraft. While classic horror tropes like vampires, werewolves, and psychotic serial killers all feel well within the realms of human understanding, Lovecraft's twisted gods and grotesque monstrosities feel completely alien - comprehensible, yet incomprehensible. It's a universe I love to see reimagined in videogames, and RailGods of Hysterra is doing just that. From the ominous shadowy Cthulhu in the key art's background, to the weird train that sports a glowing orange eye and rows of teeth, I've fallen for the survival game's universe hook, line, and sinker.

New Steam strategy game Citadelum is like Cities Skylines 2 set in Ancient Rome

On the surface, Cities Skylines 2 is a game of modern problems. Your citizens don't just need houses - they need commerce, mass transit, multi-lane highways, and an effective power grid. These seem like 21st century stresses. But, as it turns out, governing the ancient world is equally complex, and its people just as demanding. A combination of Colossal Order's genre-leading city builder and the historical setting of Civilization 6, Citadelum is a new strategy game where you're in charge of constructing, overseeing, and leading a Roman city during the height of the empire. 'Cities Skylines but you're Julius Caesar' is an extremely strong pitch. This could be the new city builder of our dreams.

Planet Coaster 2 system requirements demand 16GB VRAM from some graphics cards

The Planet Coaster 2 system requirements are out, and this highly anticipated theme-park sim is demanding a whopping 16GB VRAM graphics card in its recommended tier. However, there is more to this confusing demand than meets the eye, so don't fear if your GPU isn't quite hitting the same levels.

While developer Frontier Developments doesn't demand the very fastest of the best graphics cards in the Planet Coaster 2 requirements, seeing an Intel Arc A770 16GB graphics card selected is surprising. Granted, VRAM isn't everything, and the other options include an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, showing that the selection of the A770 could be down to the fact that the game is better optimized for Nvidia hardware.

Best action games on PC 2024

What are the best action games? One of the big reasons why action games are so popular is that they put you in scenarios that make you feel like a superstar. No matter how many enemies are sent in your path, you have the tools you need to take anyone down.

Unlike action-adventure games where you can rely on power items to aid you, the games on this list typically feature deep mechanics that require you to spend hours to truly master. You don't have to spend lots of time to enjoy any of the games on this list. Though, like a good fighting game, the more time you put in, the more you get out from the best action games on PC.

Warframe 1999 feels great, but its new demo is far too short

I remember where I was when caught my first glimpse into the world of Warframe 1999. I was lucky enough to attend a pre-briefing of Tennocon 2023, and from that moment on I was sold. Blending the grit and grime of Metal Gear Solid with Warframe's signature cyber ninja style, I've wanted to get my hands on it ever since - a feeling amplified by my neon-bathed Tennocon 2024 experience earlier this year. So, imagine my face when Digital Extremes confirmed that a Warframe 1999 demo was going to go live the day after my birthday. I booked an extra day off, saddled up, and got ready to ride.

New AMD Radeon RX 8000 gaming GPUs could have 16-pin power connectors, says leak

AMD and Intel are reportedly testing 16-pin power connectors on their next-gen gaming GPUs, meaning these new graphics cards could finally ditch the good old-fashioned 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power sockets of yore. Such a move would be a big step for the new AMD Radeon and Intel Arc cards, though. While both companies have lost significant market share to Nvidia recently, they also haven't had to deal with numerous warranty returns for cards with melted 16-pin connectors, and the same can't be said for Nvidia.

The original 12VHPWR connector used on the RTX 4090, among other Nvidia GPUs, has been a source of controversy, with wide-ranging reports of smoking graphics cards and melting GPU power connectors. The situation appears to have improved with the introduction of the safer 12V-2x6 connector, though, which is now used on a lot of Nvidia GPUs, and is also expected to be used on the new RTX 5090. It's this latter socket that Intel and AMD are apparently testing right now.

Back in 2021, that dark epoch known as the Pre-Edwin Age, there was but one Ed at Rock Paper Shotgun - the venerable Ed Thorn, aka Edders. Edders had a dream, the dream of Halo Infinite getting a battle royale mode. Like Moses descending from the mount with a Needler in either hand, he bedazzled and amazed us with visions of "an enormous playground stitched together from some of Halo's most iconic maps of yore; Warthogs and Mongooses roaming the lands; players racing to the M41 SPNKR as it spawns; grappling to a rooftop and laying down covering fire; some contrived reason as to why there's a circle of poison gas closing in... but hey, rings are what Halo does best, right? It's 100% doable."

Ed Thorn has always been a journalist of great sagacity and supernatural insight, so it was of no surprise to the RPS editors of the era when rumours bubbled up a few months later that Certain Affinity had partnered with 343 Industries (nowadays Halo Studios) to make Halo battle royale a reality. These rumours have now been confirmed by Certain Affinity's former design director Mike Clopper, who says the now-cancelled mode could have been a "game changer".

Nepos Games are the two-person studio behind Nebuchadnezzar, which Nate Crowley called "two thirds of an outstanding historical city builder". They've just informed me they're making a new building sim called County Of Fortune, out in Q4 2025. It ain't a city builder, though. In fact, it claims to have murdered the city builder in cold blood, which is unfortunate, because I was really looking forward to a round of Manor Lords later.

"The city-builder is dead, long live the county-builder," declares the press release, brandishing the husk of SimCity over its head. OK, I'll bite - what's a county-builder then? Well, it's sort of several city-builders having an argument. In County Of Fortune, you seed and grow a number of settlements side by side, then manage their economic and social relations. In other words, it's a game that appears to simulate the phenomenon of culture clash. I'm not sure all this amounts to the wholesale death of a genre, but it's certainly intriguing. Here's the Steam page, and here's a trailer.

Praise the gods, it's Hades 2 update day, and developers Supergiant are not mucking about. They have bolstered the nippy roguelike with a heap of shiny new things in this "Olympian Update", including a new weapon with homing attacks, a liver-pecking boss fight, two new animal familiars, and the home region of the Gods - mount Olympus. It's probably the biggest update they've made yet in terms of fresh sights. And by "fresh sights", I mean Dionysus sporting a leopard-print thong. Yikes.

The Binding of Isaac Nendoroid Includes Tons of Tears

Another one of the Good Smile Company announcements from New York Comic Con 2024 involves a The Binding of Isaac figure that is a Nendoroid of the main character. It is the furthest along of all of the company's announcements at the event, as a painted prototype appeared and there are multiple photos showing the extra parts included with it.

The multiple photos tied to a gif released alongside the reveal covered many of the parts Isaac will include. His face plates always show him crying, and it seems he will have ones that feature both his eyes open and closed. He'll come with a standard body, as well as an additional one of him curled up in a fetal position on the floor. You can arm him with Mom's Knife, which was a passive in the original game. He also comes with a Dead Cat passive item, which can be displayed alongside him.

Here's the official announcement gif showing some of the different The Binding of Isaac Nendoroid poses that will be possible.

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1846919127350305241

While there's no pre-order open yet, we should see that happen soon. Not only did the painted prototype appear at NYCC 2024, but there are multiple photos of its accessories and extra parts.

Many of the other NYCC 2024 Good Smile Company reveals involved games. There will be a new World of Warcraft Nendoroid and Diablo 4 Pop Up Parade figure coming from the company.

The Binding of Isaac original game is available on PCs. The remake showed up on the 3DS, PS4, PS5, Switch, Vita, Wii U, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and mobile devices. There's no release window for The Binding of Isaac Nendoroid yet.

Diablo 4 Lilith Pop Up Parade Figure Teased

Among the Good Smile Company New York Comic Con 2024 reveals was a teaser for the Diablo 4 Lilith Pop Up Parade L figure. It's early in development, so it seems the social media reveal didn't include any concept art. Instead, the official art of the character showed up in the announcement.

Lilith is a character who has been a part of the Diablo series since the second game, though she features most prominently in Diablo 4. In that installment, she appears as the primary antagonist.

Here's the official announcement for the Diablo 4 Lilith figure:

https://twitter.com/goodsmile_en/status/1846921656452661577

Good Smile Company only released one Diablo series figure prior to this, and it was a Demon Hunter. That was based on the class' Diablo 3 appearance. However, that class did also appear in Diablo Immortal. That figure launched in 2024 and is widely available.

As a reminder, the L size versions of Pop Up Parade figures are typically quite a bit taller than the standard ones. Normal ones are under seven inches tall. An "L" variant could be nine inches or taller.

Diablo 4 and its Vessel of Hatred expansion are available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC, and there's no release window yet for the Lilith Pop Up Parade figure.

Vocaloid MEIKO will celebrate 20th anniversary in November 2024

Crypton Future Media's Vocaloid record label Karent opened a new webpage to mark the 20th anniversary of MEIKO. The Vocaloid character will actually celebrate her anniversary on November 5, 2024.

Karent has also published a number of songs featuring MEIKO on digital platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music. Some of the songs included in the list are "origin" by Daibakuhasin, "History Story" by MINO-U, "Ray" by IMO, and "Fujun Doumei" by Ako.

Even though Hatsune Miku is arguably the most popular Crypton character, MEIKO is also revered in the community as her oldest senpai and senior. MEIKO was the first-ever Japanese Vocaloid released by Yamaha and Crypton Future Media on November 5, 2004. The companies used vocals from the singer-songwriter Meiko Haigo as a basis for the Vocaloid. Crypton would also occasionally include MEIKO in merchandise collections that feature Hatsune Miku and the Piapro family of Vocaloid characters.

Crypton has since released updated versions of MEIKO for newer engines. V3 appeared for the Vocaloid 3 engine in February 2014. Most recently on August 30, 2024, Crypton released Piapro Characters Super Pack, which is compatible with Vocaloid 4 and Piapro Studio. The latter also includes an even newer version of the MEIKO voice bank in MEIKO SP.

The 20th anniversary of the Vocaloid character MEIKO will fall on November 5, 2024.

The figure is available for worldwide shipping via its Japanese international web store for ¥17,800. People residing in the U.S. and Canada can alternatively place orders on Good Smile Online Shop US storefront for $118.99.
