Assassin's Creed Shadows release date, trailer, story, and gameplay

When is the AC Shadows release date? We've been clamoring for an Assassin's Creed set in feudal Japan right from the series' inception. After 16 years, that dream is finally a reality, and there's plenty to learn about its characters, gameplay, and real-life historical events before launch.

PCGamesN first got wind of Assassin's Creed Shadows during the Ubisoft Showcase event we attended way back in 2022. Previously known as Codename Red, this latest entry in the stealth RPG game series transports us to the turbulent Azuchi-Momoyama period. We'll witness Obu Nobunaga's bid to unify Japan through the eyes of dual protagonists Fujibayashi Naoe, the fictional daughter of ninja master Fujibayashi Nagato, and Yasuke, the first playable historical figure in the series. We've got all this and more ahead of the Assassin's Creed Shadows release date.

New Nvidia GeForce laptop GPU lineup, including RTX 5090, listed in new leak

New details have leaked for Nvidia's next-gen GeForce RTX laptop GPUs, including the potential new flagship RTX 5090 laptop chip. While details are light, the leak suggests that Nvidia is committed to keeping the shared product names for both mobile and desktop cards, while also pointing to a potentially beefed-up RTX 5080 for laptops.

Nvidia hasn't yet confirmed any details about its new RTX 5000 series cards, which are likely to dominate our best graphics cards shortlist on launch, but there's a strong chance that the company is planning to announce them during the CES 2025 trade show in January. Is Black Ops 6 have crossplay and cross-platform? If you cast your mind back to only a decade ago, the concept of crossplay was practically unheard of. Fortunately, a lot has changed since then, with all the big publishers and developers working together to ensure your mates can play together in the same party.

With so many Black Ops 6 Zombies maps and standard multiplayer maps to play on, it doesn't surprise us to learn that PC, Xbox, and PlayStation users want to unite as a powerful team. The only trouble is that not every multiplayer game is forced to include this helpful feature, which is why people have been asking whether Black Ops 6 supports crossplay and cross-platform connectivity.

It's the right time for Dying Light to have a comeback. Halloween, the annual celebration of everything ghoulish and zombified, is almost upon us, and it's not long ago that we found out about the new Dying Light game, The Beast. Originally released almost ten years ago, Techland's undead FPS certainly deserves one last turn in the spotlight before it's fully superseded by its successors, but I didn't expect it to become this popular again.      New tactical RPG Flint is like XCOM 2 mixed with pirates and a great story

You play Assassin's Creed Black Flag, or maybe Sea of Thieves or Skull and Bones, and you realize that being a pirate actually takes an enormous amount of skill. The best pirates use strategy and cunning - like the perfect party composition in Baldur's Gate 3, the right combos in Diablo 4, and the visionary flanking maneuvers necessary in XCOM 2, if you want to rule the Seven Seas, you need vision as well as violence. Enter Flint: Treasure of Oblivion, a smart, tactical CRPG with dice rolls, deckbuilding, and a distinctive visual style. It's always nice to say that a big, look-how-much-we-spent-on-pore-rendering AAA game actually runs quite well on PC, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 does. Unfortunately for Bl6ps, and for us, that technical success is balanced on the knife tip of some seriously overwrought infrastructure. Mainly in the form the UX nightmare that is the Call of Duty HQ launcher, as well as a meddlesome always-online requirement, itself serving a feature that doesn't even work that well.

You can feel two ways about something at the same time. The feuding academics of Life Is Strange: Double Exposure might call this "emotional superposition". But the word "ambivalent" already exists. So let's say I'm ambivalent about this new adventure featuring Max Caulfield, the returning hero of Life Is Strange, and time-travelling photographer whose powers have resurfaced after years of off-screen atrophy. I've been deeply moved by individual scenes in this sequel. By the end I was sorry to leave its characters behind. At the same time (please now imagine my face is splitting into a second, colour-washed expression with wobbly VFX) I am relieved it's over, so I don't have to deal with the inconsistent behaviour of those characters, the flimsy plot, and a convoluted approach to murder mystery.

In case you don't know the headline reference, Orpheus was a mythical Greek musician who famously descended to the underworld to rescue his snake-bitten lover, Eurydice. The underworld's rulers, Hades and Persephone, were massively bummed out by Orpheus's emo lyre-playing, and swiftly agreed to let him lead Eurydice's soul upward to the waking world, with the extremely simple proviso that he not look back at her till they're both on the surface.

Being a love-drunk spannerhead, however, Orpheus couldn't resist a quick peek at Eurydice after crossing the threshold - and the result is a timeless moral about human frailty and the specific truism that you should absolutely never date musicians, which Australian developers Oppolyon Studios have totally ignored in their otherwise-redolent game about kicking your brother's soul out of hell.

I've often thought lighthouse keeping would make a fine second career, albeit mostly because in my head, it would give me endless time to write (and finish Baldur's Gate 3). You won't have much time to write in Static Dread, sadly. The world has ended, the oceans teem with squirmy, extra-dimensional lifeforms, and it's your job as the apparent sole surviving lighthouse keeper to distinguish vessels loaded with eldritch horrors from vessels loaded with people who need saving from eldritch horrors.

Going by the teaser trailer, below, this appears to be comparable to playing border guard in Papers, Please, but it's less political and more tentacular. You field queries over the radio, run your finger down a clipboard, and decide whether to kindle the lamps or beg the coastguard to blast that ship back to hell. There's a dialogue line in the trailer which I, personally, would consider highly untrustworthy. "It's consuming my team!" screams a self-described ship captain. "Please, send help! Gosh..." Look, "friend", no genuine human being says "gosh" in an emergency situation. Not even British human beings say "gosh" in an emergency situation. That's what you say when somebody tells you the pizza-flavoured crisps are back on sale at Aldis.

Steins;Gate Re;Boot revealed

Mages has revealed Steins;Gate Re:Boot at the franchise's 15th anniversary event. This announcement also served as the climax of the anniversary's celebration project that started in September 2023.

The company has strongly implied that Re:Boot will appear as a remake of the series' inaugural entry. The newly published teaser trailer features a year count that started from 2009. That was when the original Steins;Gate first appeared on the Xbox 360 in Japan.

Mages has since also ported the original Steins;Gate for PC, PSP, PS3, PS Vita, PS4, iOS, and Android devices. The PC version is still available to purchase worldwide via Steam.

In the Japanese press release, Mages noted that unlike Steins;Gate Elite which used illustrations from the anime adaptation, the series' original illustrator Ryohei "huke" Fuke is redrawing the character designs based on his newer skill levels as of 2024. In addition to the new graphics, Mages will also add some new elements to the game's storyline in Re:Boot.

The official teaser trailer for Steins;Gate Re:Boot is available to watch via Mages' official YouTube channel:

https://youtu.be/WXchEIP5vIo

Steins;Gate Re:Boot will be available in 2025. Mages has yet to announce platforms for the new game as of the initial reveal in late October 2024.

Arknights Sanrio Characters Event Starts in December

The English Arknights social media account for the global version of the game announced a new Arknights x Sanrio Characters event. That will begin running in mid-December 2024.

Here's the official announcement, which shows the art for the event:

https://twitter.com/arknightsen/status/1850124414270239096?s=61

We already know what to expect from this event, given it already appeared in June 2024 in the original version of the game. Certain outfits appeared for operators. As shown in the teaser image, Goldenglow got a Hello Kitty one, Lee's involved Pompompurin, and U-Official's featured her holding balloons of mascots like Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, Gudetama, Badtz-Maru, My Melody, and Pompompurin. Special avatar pictures and a themed home screen background were also available to buy in packs. In-game furniture inspired by the mascots also showed up.

The PV also appeared online, and you can see that here thanks to RiverV Workshop sharing it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GezSy1f0lng&t=11s&ab_channel=RiverVWorkshop

In the past, there have been multiple Arknights crossovers. One involved KFC showing up in-game. There were Rainbow Six Siegeand Monster Hunterones as well.

Arknights is available on Android and Apple iOS devices worldwide, and the Sanrio Characters event will appear in the global version in mid-December 2024. This comes after the event ran in the Chinese version back in June 2024.

This collaboration will primarily feature the following seven pairs:

Walmart 2024 Black Friday Deals Start Early for Walmart+

Walmart already announced details about how it will handle its Black Friday Deals sale for 2024, and this time it noted Walmart+ members who subscribe to that plan will get early access. People who are members can get access to deals online at 9am PT/12pm ET on November 11, 2024, while everyone else needs to wait until 2pm PT/5pm ET. In-stores sales start on November 15, 2024.

The initial teaser didn't actually announce any of the sales yet. The images on the announcement page did show a few items suggesting TVs, kitchen appliances, and toys will be a part of it. For example, the image referencing TVs showed a photo of a Hisense UHD LCD Roku Smart TV, but didn't mention which size would be on sale. A Squishmallow cat plush appeared on the one for toys. The kitchen goods teaser highlighted a Gourmia air fryer.

Walmart also announced that its Walmart+ membership is temporarily on sale alongside the Black Friday Deals sale reveal for 2024. It is 50% off the one-year membership. That costs $49, rather than $98, at the moment. In addition to early access to the sale, there are discounts on Burger King purchases and gas at certain gas stations. You also get free shipping from the website or delivery from stores. People get access to Paramount+ as well.

It isn't unusual for the Walmart Black Friday Deals sale to start early like this. In 2023, video game discounts started showing up online on November 8, 2023.

The Walmart Black Friday Deals 2024 sale runs between November 11-17, 2024. Actual Black Friday falls on November 29, 2024, the day after Thanksgiving.

See New Honkai Impact 3rd x Honkai: Star Rail Art

HoYoVerse is doing more to tease the upcoming Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai: Star Rail crossover, and this time it involved official art of characters appearing in the event. The latest piece teased that Sparkle won't be the only member of the Masked Fools to appear during the event. This is the latest tease for the upcoming activity due to debut on November 28, 2024.

Two of the appearances here are rather obvious ones. We know Sparkle will show up in Honkai Impact 3rd for the Honkai: Star Rail crossover event. She's going to become a playable character. Her battlesuit is Thousand-Faced Maestro: Cameo, though all we know aside from that is that it will be an S-rank battlesuit. (That's the highest rank available in the gacha game.) Vita also appears. She showed up as the 7.8 S-rank battlesuit. However, this latest art also shows Sampo. He's a four-star unit in Honkai: Star Rail who has been a part of the title since launch.

Here's the latest art for the event.

https://twitter.com/HonkaiImpact3rd/status/1850149136344994243

We already know about a number of members of Masked Fools in Honkai: Star Rail. These are the characters who follow the Aeon Aha in the game. While Sparkle and Sampo are the only playable members, Giovanni comes up often in sidequests on planets like Jarilo-VI and Penacony.

Honkai Impact 3rd is available on the PC and mobile devices. Honkai: Star Rail is on the PS5, PC, and mobile devices. The Honkai: Star Rail crossover event will appear on November 28, 2024.

Crystalline Resonance - Final Fantasy Piano Collection album

Square Enix revealed a new piano arrangement album based on tracks from its mainline Final Fantasy entries. This album will be primarily based on the Crystalline Resonance piano concerts, which are the focus of a new world tour scheduled to appear in countries globally between December 2024 and March 2025.

The company had also released another piano album earlier in October 2024. But while the "Piano Cover Collection from Square Enix Music Channel" album also included tracks from other franchises like Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, this one will only feature tracks from the Final Fantasy series.

This album will not be like the Piano Collections albums that Square Enix had published online either. The company released multiple albums featuring numerous piano arrangements, but it grouped those by the respective titles. On the contrary, this Crystalline Resonance album will only contain around ten tracks from the post-pixel era mainline entries. The titles featured will range from Final Fantasy VII to Final Fantasy XVI.

Here is the tentative track list for the upcoming Final Fantasy piano album:

  1. "Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy X
  2. "Lightning's Theme" from Final Fantasy XIII
  3. "Eyes On Me" from Final Fantasy VIII
  4. "Aerith's Theme" from Final Fantasy VII
  5. "Opening Movie - To Be a Sky Pirate" from Final Fantasy XII
  6. "Away" from Final Fantasy XVI
  7. "Ascension" from Final Fantasy XVI
  8. "Suteki da ne" from Final Fantasy X
  9. "Kiss Me Good-Bye" from Final Fantasy XII
  10. "Bygone Serenity" from Final Fantasy XIV

Pre-orders for this album are immediately available on the Japanese Square Enix e-Store and other online music stores across the country. The item will have a tax-inclusive MSRP of 3,300 yen (~$21.65).

Square Enix also confirmed on the album's English webpage that people in North America and Europe will be able to order the album via the company's web stores for the respective regions. It has still yet to actually put up a listing page on the North American and European web stores though, so it has instead provided a CDJapan listing that is also available to people residing elsewhere worldwide.

The "Crystalline Resonance - Final Fantasy Piano Collection" album will be available on January 15, 2025.

Sonic x Shadow Generation Sales

Sega announced Sonic X Shadow Generation sales have topped one million copies worldwide across all platforms in just three days. The developer and publisher announced that the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations is part of their strategy to further strengthen the Sonic IP, which seems to be working given the total worldwide sales for this entry in the series. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Sega goes on to state that it will continue to develop it's transmedia properties, which includes a series of comics and merchandise. This included the release of a special Sonic X Shadow Generations Chao comic. Upcoming trans media releases and collaborations include a series of DC comics where various characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog universe will assume the roles of iconic heroes like Batman. Sega also released a short animated series leading up to the release of Sonic X Shadow generations, which more or less worked as a primer for those unfamiliar with the brooding hedgehog.

Additionally, it will continue to publish games as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog IP such as the previously announced Sonic Rumble. Coincidentally, Sega is hiring employees to work on future Sonic the Hedgehog titles. However, this job listing was limited to Japan.

Sonic X Shadow Generations is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
