The 44 best Minecraft texture packs January 2025

What are the best Minecraft texture packs? These colorful and game-altering texture packs can make your world a new experience. Of course, Minecraft's low-fi charm is part of the draw, but texture packs range from subtle changes to an all-over reskin, so you can choose just how much you want to leave vanilla Minecraft behind. We've scoured and tried a bunch of different packs to be able to recommend the very best.

Just like the best Minecraft mods and shaders, texture packs can help give an entirely new feel to one of the best PC games of the last decade, and it's just one of many ways of keeping the sandbox game feeling fresh after all these years. While some mods can alter Minecraft gameplay, and shaders change the quality and style of the graphics, texture packs allow you to add a new skin to existing blocks. Included in our list of the best Minecraft texture packs are realistic blocks, cartoonish overhauls, and cute changes to the way Minecraft mobs look.

Acer's newest Steam Deck rival is enormous with Nintendo Switch like controllers

Just months after launching its first handheld gaming PC, Acer is back at CES launching the Nitro Blaze 8 and Blaze 11. While the Blaze 8 appears to be a fairly routine update akin to the Steam Deck, the Blaze 11 is packing some far more interesting hardware choices.

Companies are in a rat race to build the next best gaming handheld PC, as Valve still dominates with the Steam Deck. Acer's latest attempt includes the Nitro 11 that comes with an enormous 10.95-inch screen and removable, Switch-like controllers.

DLSS 4 can increase your gaming PC frame rate by 8x, says Nvidia

Nvidia has unveiled the latest iteration of its DLSS suite, with the newest addition now claiming to increase your game's frame rate by as much as 8x without losing graphical fidelity, thanks to upscaling and frame generation. DLSS 4 improves upon DLSS 3 in several ways but the biggest new feature is a new frame generation mode called DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation, which allows for not just one but as many as three frames to be created entirely by AI.

The innovation was unveiled as part of Nvidia's CES keynote where it also revealed the RTX 5000 series of GPUs - including claiming the RTX 5070 is as fast as the RTX 4090 - and discussed a new type of graphics processing technique called neural rendering.

Brutal FPS game Hell Let Loose is more popular on Steam right now than ever

I go back to Counter-Strike, the early days of 1.6, and, for me personally, I think it set the ground rules for what a good online FPS ought to be. In Counter-Strike - and this is still true with CS2 - it's all about risk and consequence. You get one life per round, and you're incredibly vulnerable. It's not like Call of Duty or even Battlefield, where the default game modes give you armor and perks. It's raw. I've always preferred shooters in that tradition. So too, it would seem, have a lot of other PC players. One of the toughest, most brutal, and knife-edge FPS games available, after almost four years, the peerless Hell Let Loose just set a new Steam record.

The 15 best soulslike games in 2025

What are the best soulslike games? An off-shoot of action RPGs, the defining principles of this ever-growing subgenre sprung up from Demon's Souls back in 2009. However, it took the release of its spiritual successor two years later to really light a fire under fans. FromSoftware's Dark Souls is a landmark game in many respects, but the soulslike genre is its greatest legacy.

While efforts have been made to diversify soulslike games in recent years, patience in the face of adversity remains the focal point. Characterized by punishing stamina-based combat, risk-reward currency systems, and challenging bosses, victory leads to progression through rich worlds that often capture a dark fantasy game aesthetic. Whether you're a newcomer who's not sure where to start or an RPG game veteran looking for a new challenge, we've got the very best soulslikes on PC you can play right now.

League of Legends Season One 2025 is about to start, marking the beginning of a new era with a reworked Ranked structure, a transformed Rift map, and changes to Teleport. But even before launch, the new LoL patch has already been criticized by one of the game's most prominent streamers and creators, Los Ratones coach Marc Robert 'Caedrel' Lamont. Calling the new patch "horrible," Caedrel says that the changes to TP lean too heavily on influences from LoL's spin-off TV series Arcane, and that various aspects of the new patch feel like they cater to players coming to League of Legends for the first time after watching the show, rather than long-time fans of Riot's MOBA.

Gentle reader, I have previously written exactly two boob-related articles in my life. One was a cheesy round-up of the best manboobs in video games for Green Man Gaming's long-vanished blog. It was published sometime in 2010, and IIRC, pre-reboot Kratos came out on top. I think/hope it still exists somewhere in the apparatus of Green Man Gaming, hidden beneath the retailer's veneer of respectability like a barrel of radioactive waste. The other boob article was a piece for OXM about Ken Levine saying that he wished people would stop fixating on Elizabeth's cleavage in Bioshock Infinite - a complaint we might consider slightly hypocritical, given the character's visual design.

Now it's time for boob article number 3: some modder has given 122 of the 150 Jokers in cardgame Balatro big chests. This extends from visibly human Jokers to Joker concepts that shouldn't, strictly speaking, have the capacity for boobage. The banana card has boobs, for example. The credit card card has boobs. Behold.

I don't want to talk to a game. I assume I'm not alone in this, because the tech's been around for donkey's and barely anyone tries to use it. Mass Effect 3 tried voice commands. Socom U.S Navy Seals shipped with a headset. "Dunno if I wanna be shouting out tacticool commands in my living room," wrote a Redditor on the subject four years ago, speaking to my very soul in the process. "Gimme the clunky buttons instead".

Thankfully, you can also use your keyboard to interrogate suspects in murder mystery Dead Meat. It's a moody, slightly goofy noir puzzler that lets you ask anything you want. Whether this means you'll always get a worthwhile response, I'm not sure. "Want to discuss their alibi? Probe them on the meaning of life? Confess your love? Or just troll them mercilessly? Your words hold power, and anything goes," reads the Steam page. Here's a trailer.

Crunchyroll Will Be Home to Ghost of Tsushima Anime Gen Urobuchi

As part of the Sony's Crunchyroll CES 2025 announcements, the company revealed a Ghost of Tsushima anime. It is working on it with Aniplex and KAMIKAZE DOUGA, and Gen Urobuchi is working on its story. It has a 2027 launch window.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime won't be retelling Jin Sakai's tale. Rather, the announcement noted it will pull inspiration from the Legends multiplayer mode released after the game's launch. That isn't based on actual history. Instead, in that mode a legendary assassin, hunter, ronin, and samurai go into other worlds and fight Oni to keep them from invading Japan. At the same time, they'll also fight Mongols.

KAMIKAZE DOUGA should sound familiar. The studio has been behind a number of notable and upcoming series. For example, there are the Pop Team Epic and Ninja Batman series. It also worked on the Tales of Crestoria anime segments.

A few other folks working on the adaptation were revealed. Takanobu Mizuno will be its director. He previously worked on Star Wars: Visions. Gen Urobuchi, who is known for Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Saya no Uta.

The Ghost of Tsushima anime will air on Crunchyroll in 2027. You can find the game on the PS4, PS5, and PC worldwide.

Captain Tsubasa Transformers crossover merchandise

Nankatsu Sports Club has announced that it will produce and sell crossover merchandise featuring Captain Tsubasa and Transformers in mid-January 2025. The items will feature Tsubasa Ozora and Optimus Prime stepping on a soccer ball.

The merchandise lineup will consist of T-shirts, keychains, and face towels. The T-shirts will be available at 5,000 yen (~$31.60) apiece in two colors (black and white) and four sizes (S, M, L, and XL). The blue face towel will cost 2,500 yen (~$15.80). Meanwhile, the white square keychain will be available at 900 yen (~$5.70), but the club will only produce 200 copies of this item.

The crossover originated when Yoichi Takahashi published a new illustration that featured Tsubasa Ozora and Optimus Prime on Nankatsu SC's final home match day in the 2024 season. The crossover came to fruition because both the Captain Tsubasa-inspired real-world soccer club and Takara Tomy—the Japanese IP holder of Transformers—are based in the same city of Katsushika in Tokyo, Japan.

The Captain Tsubasa - Transformers crossover merchandise will be formally available for sale online in Japan on January 14, 2025. Nankatsu SC will have early-bird sales for several items in the lineup at the U-12 Captain Tsubasa Cup Katsushika tournament on January 11-12, 2025.

Crunchyroll Manga App Arrives in 2025

Following Crunchyroll deciding to end its digital manga app in December 2023, Sony announced at CES 2025 that a new Crunchyroll Manga app and service will debut in 2025. It will only initially be available on Android and Apple iOS devices in the US and Canada. It is also designed to be its own service, though some Crunchyroll standard plans will include it.

The initial announcement went over some of the details. For example, this is designed to be an additional app and entity. Only North America was mentioned as a launch region for it. People who already have a subscription plan will apparently be able to pay extra to add this on. As a reminder, the three options for that right now are the $7.99 Fan one that is for one device, the $11.99 Mega Fan one that adds support for four devices, offline watching, and the Crunchyroll Game Vault, and the $15.99 Ultimate Fan one with everything from the previous tiers, 6 device support, and a swag bag after 12 months. (All subscriptions also offer varying degrees of Crunchyroll Store deals.)

It also teased that it won't always be limited to mobile devices. The 2025 launch only confirmed support for those of us in the US and Canada. It also only mentioned the app for mobile devices. However, it will also supposedly support browsers for viewing on things like PCs too. As for content, the Crunchyroll Manga app announcement only mentioned series from "renowned publishers."

Crunchyroll's first manga digital service offered series to read for about 10 years. It first stopped adding to its collection on November 7, 2023. After that, it completely shut that area down on December 11, 2023.

The Crunchyroll Manga app will launch on Android and Apple iOS devices in the US and Canada in 2025.

Monster Hunter Hokakushi-tai 3 captured monsters figure via Gashapon capsules

Bandai has revealed that it will release a new batch of figures modeled after the captured monsters from Capcom's Monster Hunter series in late January 2025. The figure lineup, which is known in Japan as Hokakushi-tai, will be available via Gashapon vending machines. The new third wave will feature Rathian, Diablos, Barioth, and Rajang, as well as a secret rare entry based on an unspecified Rathian subspecies.

The company will depict the monsters that are sleeping after they have been pelted with tranquilizers and fallen into a Pitfall Trap. A Gashapon vending machine containing these figures will require people to spend 500 yen via either physical coins or cashless mobile payments before they can pull a random capsule.

Bandai had previously released the first batch, which featured Magnamalo, Zinogre, Mizutsune, and Khezu, in late December 2023. It followed up with the second batch in late August 2024, which contained Rathalos, Nargacuga, Tigrex, Gore Magala, and a Rathalos subspecies as a secret rare figure.

Capcom has been releasing various kinds of merchandise based on its Monster Hunter games. In late December 2024, the company revealed self-produced chibi plushies with eco-bags that are available as crane game prizes. Other than Bandai, Capcom also worked with many other companies like Puma and U-Treasure to produce merchandise from the same franchise.

The third wave of Monster Hunter Hokakushi-tai captured monster figures will appear at Gashapon capsule toy vending machines across Japan in the fifth week of January 2025.

Danganronpa chibi character merchandise by Fanthful

Dragonhorse has revealed a new lineup of Danganronpa character merchandise under the Fanthful brand. The items, which feature the series' characters in chibi proportions, are available for pre-orders via AmiAmi. The latter lists the items on not only its Japanese site but also the English site, which supports worldwide shipping.

The company features eight characters from each of the three mainline series entries. The list includes Makoto and Kyoko from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Hajime and Chiaki from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and Shuichi and Kaede from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony.

The merchandise prices will range from 1,980 yen (~$12.50) for an individual character's acrylic stand to 7,040 yen (~$44.50) for a box of eight random charm amulet packages. Note that the charm amulets and pin badges are being packed in blind random formats. That means even if one were to purchase the 8-in-1 box, there is still a good chance of getting duplicates of the same character item and missing another character in the collection.

The full character item lineup is available to check via Dragonhorse's announcement tweet on its X account:

The Fanthful-branded Danganronpa chibi character merchandise will be available in April 2025. AmiAmi can ship the items worldwide via DHL and national postal services.
