PCGamesN Thursday, February 20, 2025 9:47 AM ![]() What are the best turn-based strategy games? The break afforded by 'turns' allows us to think, ponder, and plan our moves with as much expert precision as we can muster. Witnessing that master plan unfold can be immensely satisfying, and suddenly, you get a taste of becoming a master tactician. This genre is also home to the 'one more turn' trope - that feeling of near-addiction that compels you to click the 'End Turn' button just one more time to see what happens in one of the best PC games. Maybe you're waiting to see the outcome of a daring attack; perhaps you're just trying to click through some downtime. We also have the best strategy games or 4X games to see our thoughts on that particular niche. PCGamesN Thursday, February 20, 2025 9:19 AM ![]() Gamers have a new route to getting hold of an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 or RTX 5080, thanks to the GPU maker itself. In an effort to beat scalpers, Nvidia has just relaunched its Verified Priority Access program for active Nvidia account holders, inviting users to buy a new graphics card from the company directly. However, only a "limited" number will be able to buy a new RTX 50-series card this way, with the scheme also limited to just one country. Nvidia launched a similar program back during the early days of the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, when the launch of those GPUs was also affected by stock availability issues. While the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are now the best graphics cards you can buy, not enough gamers have been able to get their hands on one, with extremely limited stock levels since launch day. PCGamesN Thursday, February 20, 2025 9:13 AM ![]() What's the longest you've ever waited for a game? The problem with videogames is that they pretty much always take much longer than you'd expect, and as budgets have increased and as time has gone on, that's only gotten truer and truer. Skyrim came out way back in 2011, but almost 14 years later there's still no Elder Scrolls 6, and it'll be a decade since Fallout 4 came out later this year, too. But a studio like Bethesda is guaranteed to release those follow-ups - when you're waiting almost ten years for a game like Lost Soul Aside, an original, debut IP which was first announced in 2016, things are a bit more uncertain. Lost Soul Aside has a release date now, though, but there's bad news for PC players. |

PCGamesN Thursday, February 20, 2025 6:37 AM ![]() If you want to find out where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, then you've come to the right place. We're updating this guide daily with links to retailers worldwide so that we can let you know as soon as they get stock on their shelves. The RTX 5080 launch was just over a week ago so many retailers have not yet had time to replenish their stock after the initial influx of orders, but there are some ways to get hold of the card. The Nvidia RTX 5080 is a very popular option for those wanting to upgrade to an RTX 5000 series GPU. That's because, while our RTX 5090 review showed it to be the undisputed new best graphics card, it also offers relatively poor value for $1,999. The RTX 5080, though, is a great choice that offers reasonable value in the grand scheme of things, as we found out in our RTX 5080 review. Because of this expected popularity, and because the entire RTX 5000 series is tipped to be in short supply and high demand, you're going to need to be organized if you want to secure a card for a sensible price soon after launch. With an official price of $999 / $1,449.99 CAD / £979 / AU$2,019 Nvidia's own Founders Edition card is one of the most affordable options. Other cards from the likes of Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac might demand more, but sometimes offer lower running temperatures, quieter fans, and more overclocking headroom. The RTX 5080 release date was Thursday, January 30, with the launch time being 9am ET / 6am PT / 2pm GMT. With most stores already sold out, some are operating a "notify me" service, so you can sign up to know when stock becomes available again. The Pokemon Company International announced the next Pokemon Presents Showcase, a presentation designed to cover things like games, anime, shows, and other updates, will appear on February 27, 2025. Nintendo also shared the message on social media, suggesting it could be involved. We can watch it live at 6am PT/9am ET on February 27, 2025.
There's no word on how long this showcase will last. The announcement only confirmed it will air on YouTube. However, the length of past installments length that aired on Pokemon Day tended to be under 30 minutes. The one shared in 2022 lasted for under 14 minutes. The 2023 one was 25 minutes long. The 2024 installment ran for almost 13 minutes.
The Pokemon Company International also announced that it is okay to co-stream this showcase. Someone does need to actually comment to do so and can't just silently share the stream. There are also rules about not violating policies and being aware if using third-party content. It shared the existing support page to offer additional insights.
This could mean we'll finally get to see Pokemon Legends: Z-A again among the new Pokemon games updates in the showcase. The followup to Pokemon Legends: Arceus showed up on Pokemon Day 2024. It has a 2025 launch window. So this would be an opportunity to go over it again. We might also see a tease about the next mainline entry in the series.

As the book only has eight pages, focusing on a hundred pieces of trivia about Kewpie mayonnaise, the pillow is the star of the product. The pillow looks exactly like a real Kewpie mayonnaise bottle, except it's 58 centimeters long with a "smooth texture that just makes you want to hug it." It even includes the logo, along with the Kewpie baby.
Takarajima notes that it's vacuum sealed the Kewpie mayonnaise pillow. So it advises customers to massage it evenly to push air into it so it inflates. It'll take about a week for it to get to its normal size.
Kewpie mayonnaise is the best-selling brand of mayonnaise in Japan, and it first came out in 1925. Due to the inclusion of ingredients like egg yolks and monosodium glutamate, it tastes different from regular American mayonnaise, with a sweeter and umami-imbued flavor. When cooking salads or the like, and you want it to have a more Japanese taste, you'll need to use Kewpie mayonnaise rather than an American brand for authenticity and the right flavor.
The Kewpie mayonnaise book and plush will come out in Japan on February 20, 2025. Takarajima Channel offers international shipping.

Bandai Namco has published new screenshots from its upcoming release of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Battle Destiny Remastered. It showcases some of the Mobile Suits and Mobile Armors from the remaster that will appear on Nintendo Switch and PC. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
The game will contain over 100 units from eight titles across the sub-series' Cosmic Era universe. But while the title list was pretty much comprehensive as of the original game's release on the PS Vita in 2012, it does not include newer entries like the 2024 movie Gundam SEED Freedom, the 2021 manga Gundam SEED Eclipse, and Gundam SEED Astray: Princess of the Sky.
The eight titles featured in the game are as follows:

Though I'm not awfully picky when it comes to games, I do have some strong preferences. Card battlers, for example, are a guilty pleasure, and I've played most of them. That's why I'm excited about Monster Train 2, the sequel to one of the best card battlers on the market.
Don't get me wrong: there's a huge number of excellent card battler games available right now. In fact, the original card battler, Slay the Spire, is about to get a full-featured sequel sometime soon-ish, which is a huge deal in its own right. Yet, the original Monster Train had me hooked from the get-go, and I kept coming back to the game over and over again. The developer Shiny Shoe has announced Monster Train 2 with a snazzy new trailer and an equally snazzy free demo.
Download the free Monster Train 2 demo today and give it a shot
Monster Train 2 is built on the very same schtick as its predecessor: you're a demon lord with a demonic train and a demonic crew, and you're duking it out with the forces of Heaven wherever you go. The game's unique twist is that it pits you against several different cars' worth of angels and demons all at once, which means you need to think vertically rather than just horizontally. It's great fun, really.
Best of all, though, is that you don't even need to take my word for it: head on over to Steam and download the Monster Train 2 demo yourself! The full game is supposed to launch sometime later in 2025, but there's no hard release window announced just yet.
If you're into game demos but aren't interested in card battlers at all, might I recommend Deadzone: Rogue instead? This remarkably chunky and satisfying roguelite FPS should keep you busy for a good long while, even in its free-to-play demo form, and it might even get you interested in the real deal. I don't know about you, but I'm absolutely thrilled with the fact that we've got so many good demos available via Steam nowadays. It wasn't that long ago that we were seriously concerned that game demos were a dying art form, but they're on the up-and-up once again, which is good news for us all.

Bungie's had its fair share of lawsuits over the years, though the vast majority of them have had to do with the company pursuing cheaters and hackers. A far more serious case has since sprung up, however, and it concerns the former director Christopher Barret, who was fired over misconduct.
More specifically, Christopher Barret worked on the upcoming Bungie extraction shooter Marathon when he was fired over alleged misconduct. The details of what went down in the background have been rather hazy up until now, and it likely would've stayed that way had Barret not chosen to legally pursue Bungie and Sony over what he claims was a "sham" investigation into his behavior. It would seem that Sony is sick and tired of this entire schtick, however, because the company has effectively responded to Barret's lawsuit with a 128-page filing supporting its decision to fire, as Game File reports.
Sony is intent on proving that Christopher Barret has, in fact, been fired from Bungie for good reason
As per the aforementioned Sony filing, which Barret's lawyers claim consists of messages that Sony would "disingenuously cherry-pick" to prove its point, Barret has been the target of numerous HR complaints for his pursuit of a junior employee.
Sony cites that Barret "targeted a lower-level, female employee he wasn't working with directly, initially engaged in friendly conversation, and progressively pushed boundaries with the employee by making subtle references to her physical appearance or expressing his interest in her romantically. Barrett attempted to create an unprofessional level of intimacy with his victims."
Case in point, here's an example of Barret's messaging to one of his victims, as cited by Game File: "I hope [your boyfriend] doesn't mind I text you a lot" and "I just worry. Like I really enjoy texting you and talking. I don't want him to get the right idea." Later in the conversation, when VICTIM 3 told Barrett she was busy, Barrett stated, "I want your attention, so annoying."
Sony has also said that Barret has "requested to follow personal Instagram accounts and would express anger to the women if they failed to respond to his messages. He would bring up inappropriate topics like their body, their relationships, his marriage, or his desire to date them. He would demand that they participate in sexually charged games of 'Truth or Dare' and 'Ask Me Anything.' He texted them at all hours of the day and night. He offered to buy them gifts. He often referenced his wealth and his ability to advance their careers."
The most striking bit, in my opinion, is this slew of messages from Barret to one of the victims in question: "You are the holy grail. I hope you find a person worthy of your attention." After the employee responded by saying she had a boyfriend who treated her very well, Barrett is said to have told her, "He better[.] Cuz I would hit on you if he wasn't." It's claimed he later made further contact, writing, "You want to be worshipped, I think? Why are you against that actually happening?"
The list goes on and on, and I'm frankly astonished that Barret's legal team still claims that "Christopher is confident that when all the evidence is presented, it will be clear that Sony engaged in a scheme to strip him of his role and the equity awards he earned for his 25 years of loyal service to the company."
While the court will obviously have to make up its mind on who is actually in the right here, I'm coming up blank thinking of a situation that would make Barret's behavior acceptable, regardless of whether the messages are cherry-picked or not. In a broader sense, Barret is trying to make the claim that Sony fired him specifically to avoid paying out over $80 million in bonuses he was promised after the company purchased Bungie back in 2022.
Setting aside the fact that all of this sounds like a mess no matter how you flip it, I'm genuinely glad that lawsuits such as these usually blow the case wide open to reveal what's actually going on behind closed doors in large corporate environments such as Bungie. Hopefully, the victims will be able to find some comfort in that, at least.

Charity bundles on Itch have become a regular part of the indie game ecosystem. These bundles are usually one-offs, organized by different people in response to natural disasters, mutual aid requests, battles against human rights abuses, and other crises that spring up moment-to-moment.
Every charity bundle of its kind is important, but rarely will there ever be a follow-up bundle under the same name or working towards the specific goal. In contrast, the Solo But Not Alone bundle has returned for its fifth year, still with the goal of assisting mental health charities.
Cat McDonald of Peach Garden Games has been organizing the Solo But Not Alone bundles since 2021. Each bundle's primary appeal, in terms of the games they offer, is a wide variety of new single-player tabletop roleplaying games. Each game is designed to be played completely alone or has options benefitting solo play.
The bundle's focus on single-player games promises that every game is an opportunity to take your mind off the struggles you might be facing on a daily basis. "That's right, no need to schedule, no need to get a group together. Games you can play by yourself whenever the mood strikes," the description from the first Solo But Not Alone explains.
The bundle has always benefitted mental health charities, originally going towards Jasper's Game Day for its first three bundles before switching to Take This with 2024's bundle. Take This's focus is on destigmatizing mental health and providing support to those in the gaming industry. This follows a difficult time at the charity as Take This faced a budget crisis in 2024.
Blog posts from the charity in August 2024 announced a danger of closing without securing $80,000 in funding, but follow-up posts in late October indicated that they'd surpassed their funding goal and were shifting to new leadership. Take This has pressed ahead into the new year, still providing its various programs, workshops, and resources.

In a statement about Solo But Not Alone 5 with Rascal, Cat McDonald explained the importance of assisting organizations like Take This beyond initiatives like charity bundles, saying, "Drives help [organizations] stay open, and I'm glad to play a role in that, but community support is so much bigger than just charity fundraisers."
In the same response, she also addressed Take This's recent funding issues, looking to the future by saying, "every dollar we raise is one they didn't have before." Each previous Solo But Not Alone bundle has raised over $20,000, and the fifth is on track to hopefully reach the same heights.
In terms of games, each bundle carries a unique selection, never including games found in previous years' bundles. This year's bundles features some incredible titles, including Runecairn Wardensaga, Hit The Road, Jack, ANY%: Tarot-Fueled Speedrunning Action, Radio Broadcast at the End of the World, and many others. This year's features 107 games in total.
Solo But Not Alone 5 will be up for sale until May, with a price of only $10.

You know what? It's been a hot minute since I spoke about Doom or its equally influential follow-up, Doom 2. Both staples in the FPS genre, I'm struggling to come to terms with the thought that one day we may stop talking about these classic games.
However, now is not that time, and if you want to experience a veritable smorgasbord of first-person shooting from well-known names, you should definitely check out Doom: Incarnate. This is a mod from user D3athStalker that combines Doom 2 with Wolfenstein, allowing you to fill the boots of the latter's legendary protagonist, BJ Blazkowicz.
![]()
This isn't from old school Wolfenstein, mind. The mod takes huge inspiration from the series as it's understood by MachineGames, the studio that brought us the later installments in the franchise. As such, D3athStalker takes cues from the likes of The New Order, The Old Blood, and The New Colossus. In that respect, it combines the old with the new, which is always tasty.
[Insert "but wait, there's more" reference here]
As well as combining the newer Wolfenstein games with Doom 2's engine, the mod also incorporates elements from another series: BloodRayne. Essentially, when you boot up Doom: Incarnate, you'll get to choose whether you play as Blazkowicz or Rayne, or you can let the game randomly select for you.
Whichever character you go for will give you certain traits. As noted on the ModDB description, if you go down the Wolfenstein-esque route, you'll start with a primary and secondary weapon of your choice, as well as a hatchet.
However, if you want to experience a Doom 2 take on BloodRayne, you'll start with a pair of long blades as your melee, which have higher damage output. However, unlike Blazkowicz, Rayne can't use health items, but does come with some additional abilities.
Basically, have a tinker and see what outcome works best for you. What I do like about this mod is how it still keeps the original Doom 2 visuals intact, while also gunning for a more MachineGames aesthetic. Again, tasty.
