Welcome to the Week in Review

Welcome
We’re in that odd time of the year where things are rather quiet; the summer holidays are coming to a close, and the tech world is seemingly holding its breath as we get ever closer to another big Apple September event, so we’re a bit short on heavy-hitting news.

But that doesn't mean there’s not plenty to chew over: we have a trio of in-depth Pixel 10 reviews penned by the deft hand of Senior Editor and phones expert Philip Berne – and there’s a lot more to Google's new handsets than first meets the eye.

If that doesn’t float your smartphone boat, we have some predictions about what we can expect to see from Samsung and Apple in September, including a deep-dive into what Apple could be hinting at in its typically cryptic event invitation.

We continue to flirt with AI, with John-Anthony Disotto using ChatGPT to work smarter not harder, and AI music potentially leaving people with a sense of existential dread.

From futuristic things to things from a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, and we got a glimpse at Star Wars: Starfighter, a new movie in the Star Wars universe that’ll see Ryan Gosling play the eponymous pilot, supported by Matt Smith, aka Dr Who, aka Damon Tagarean, and Will from The Inbetweeners… sorry, actor Simon Bird. Given that I rather liked Solo: A Star Wars Story, I’m curious as to how this movie will play out – but we’ll have to wait until 2027 to see it.

To get my sci-fi fix in the meantime I might give Alien: Earth a look, as it’s been met with broad critical acclaim, and I have a Disney+ subscription going wanting after I finished the nodding bonanza that was The Bear season 4.

Wishing you all a good weekend, ahead of the chaos of September. And to our American readers, do check in with TechRadar over the Labor Day weekend for our round-ups of the best tech deals at all the big retailers – you’ll find some of our top picks below.
