Siliconera Sunday, September 14, 2025 9:00 AM Dark Deity 2 Is What the Switch Needs in a Fire Emblem Drought       It's been a few years since a new Fire Emblem game showed up on the Switch! We had Fire Emblem: Three Houses in 2019 and Engage in 2023, but it's been relatively quiet since then. In the meantime, we have seen similar sorts of games show up. One of the ones that is quite good at offering the same sort of atmosphere and experience is the indie Sword & Axe series Dark Deity. Fortunately for both Switch and Switch 2 owners, a port of Dark Deity 2 showed up while we wait and as we already established, it's a great follow-up and remains a wonderful Fire Emblem like for us while we wait. The first thing I really like about Dark Deity 2 is that this is a true sequel, unlike most Fire Emblem games. It takes place a number of years after the original game, so we see the progression in Verroa and what happened after Irving Sildairan and his friends "saved the day" the first time around. We come to understand the cost of service of Order of the Eternals, and what happens when Irving's children Gwyn, Riordan, and Arthur continue on their own journey to save and unite kingdoms. It calls to mind the more generational aspects of Nintendo's series, such as entries like Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776, Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade and The Binding Blade, or Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. However, at the same time, if you are new to the series, it's absolutely fine to start here since the focus is on the new generation of heroes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0HQKVuYa0Y Next is that Dark Deity 2 is inspired by the older Fire Emblem experiences. While I do enjoy and even love the modern approach and presentation in the installments that appeared on the Switch, I adore some great spritework on very clear grids with spaces. The execution of the maps and direction in Sword & Axe's series feels very purposeful. We get objectives that aren't as simple as defeating every foe or reaching one spot. Once we get into a mission, there can be some major objectives to complete to succeed. This kicks off immediately, with the first chapter involving getting to a point in some crumbling ruins, then the following battle tasking us with evacuations and defeating the leader of some forces. From there, we need to make a pivotal decision about which group of endangered individuals we aid, and of course that influences other elements in the story. While I have brought up ways in which Dark Deity 2 is similar to Fire Emblem and how that's great for those of us with a Switch or Switch 2 waiting for a new game, the ways in which it is different also highlight how welcome it is on the systems' library. It focuses a little more on equipment and growth, due to crafting elements that can influence weapons held and character potential. We aren't worrying about durability. But we do need to consider if a weapon that is "stronger" could be better due to other elements and stats. While I miss the grave wounds system in the first game, which permanently punished you in a permadeath sort of way for poor tactical decisions, this sequel instead temporarily injures people for an encounter. When you build up relationships with characters by being around each other when attacking, you don't need to be clustered together and there are other tangible bonuses listed for hitting tiers.  But I suppose one of the other reasons I especially appreciate Dark Deity 2 being on the Switch now is the sense of variety it provides. The Fire Emblem style can be very different than other sorts of strategy games. We have seen a number of great tactical titles on the console lately! Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero showed up on te system earlier in 2025. We're getting Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles on both the Switch and Switch 2 in September 2025. But there's the idea of set units, relationship building, proper formations, crafting, and fear of a negative effect based on your poor decisions present in Dark Deity 2 that those other games don't offer. Screenshots by Siliconera There really is only one downside, and that's its font size. It's fine for conversations. It's generally okay in major menus like the options and home screen. When it gets into finer details in menus and on maps, then it's pretty bad! The screenshots above this paragraph? They're from the first few chapters in some of the areas where things get kind of small and don't feature any spoilers. The one when it comes to making a decision? Okay, that's fine. The notification about a penalty for the next battle due to a unit falling and the main menu showing details about things like relationships? Not great! Dark Deity 2 just feels like a strong addition to the Switch and Switch 2 library, especially if someone enjoys playing strategy games on a handheld device. It's challenging. The stages force you to consider all your objectives and weigh the hazards of someone being in poor condition to achieve a goal. It has the relationship building with tangible boons. There's a story that does reward you for keeping up, but doesn't penalize you for coming in fresh. It's just generally lovely. Your aim is to enhance the skills and abilities of a baller with the correct badge, which is decided by their stats and positions. With so many badges in the game, this guide will help you make the most of any build or MyTeam card according to its assigned position. Two builds of the same position can, and will, vary in styles based on how you have distributed your stats (in case of MyPlayer). It's something you should always keep in mind. Small Forwards typically excel in offense and defense while having a fair amount of mobility. You'll want to go for badges that improve your layups and ability to grab rebounds as much as possible. That's precisely what I have done for my personal LeBron James build. Boxout Beast: Better rebound positioning and ability to fight opponents near the rim. Rebound Chaser: Allows you to vie for successful distance from a longer distance. Interceptor: Better chances of successfully tipping a ball or intercepting a pass. Posterizer: Better chances of dunking over a defender. Shooting Guard SG builds typically have the smallest heights, and defense isn't necessary. What you want to focus on is having laser-straight shooting. Whether you're inside the D or outside doesn't matter. Putting shooting badges will allow you to make the most of your SG builds and score buckets of baskets in every game. Deadeye: Less penalty during a jump shot when a defender is closing in. Limitless Range: Better range for successfully executing 3-PT throws. Shifty Shooter: Better chances of success when making high-difficulty shots. Set Shot Specialist: Higher chances of making still-jumps in standing positions. Float Game: Improves chances of scoring Floaters. Point Guard The PG position might seem similar to SG in height and size, but you'll have to focus on playmaking and moving the ball along the court. Badges will be focused on enhancing your shooting and making better passes on the go. Shifty Shooter: Better chances of success when making high-difficulty shots. Set Shot Specialist: Higher chances of making still-jumps in standing positions. Ankle Assassin: Better chances of breaking down a defender. Unpluckable: Reduces the chances of the ball getting stolen. Handles for Days: Less energy consumption when performing successive dribble moves, allowing for more combos. Power Forwards Power Forward builds offer an excellent combination of shooting and size. On one hand, your MyPlayer should have good shooting badges to score from inside the D (especially from the paint). On the other hand, they must offer excellent defensive abilities to lock down the opposition shooters. Boxout Beast: Better rebound positioning and ability to fight opponents near the rim. Post Lockdown: Better post defense in all situations. Paint Prodigy: Better scoring efficiency from the paint. Post Up Poet: Higher chances of success or getting by the defender and scoring chances when making moves in the post. Center We are talking about the certified big men who can grab rebounds, score baskets, and stop the opposition from dominating near the rim. While mobility isn't your strongest suit, good Center builds can make it up with near-perfect scoring ability near the ring, largely thanks to their dunking skills. Paint Prodigy: Better scoring efficiency from the paint. Boxout Beast: Better rebound positioning and ability to fight opponents near the rim. I won't be ranking Rares and Epics since these are mostly filler with some exceptions which you'll see in the tier list. Here's my Anime Ultra Verse unit tier list and guide. Table of contents Anime Ultra Verse Unit Tier List S-Tier DPS S-Tier Support A-Tier DPS A-Tier Support B-Tier DPS Anime Ultra Verse Unit Tier List Image by Destructoid This Anime Ultra Verse tier list focuses on the best units across two categories - damage and support/off-DPS. To maximize your damage you should aim for A and S-Tier Mythics at first and then at least one DPS Secret. Also, the support rankings offer units that slow enemies down for your main DPS units or provide farm and heal. Bulm as the only farm is a no brainer choice but heals are also important, especially for Infinite. Let's analyze all units individually below. S-Tier DPS S-Tier DPS Units Why S-Tier? Destruction God EVO Secret • Meta DPS for progression and Infinite • The best Full AOE damage unit in Anime Ultra Verse and overall some of the highest possible DPS in the game • Shines when combined with slowing units • Your prime candidate for the Storm trait • Both abilities apply Scorch for insane damage How to Get: Get from Namek Ultra Stage at 1% drop for Normal and 2% for Hard Get EVO by getting 5000 takedowns, crafting his EVO item and spending 3750 coins. Abyssal Beast EVO Secret • The second Meta DPS for all modes • Also Full AOE when fully upgraded due to the AOE shout • Kaiju might be better than Beerus in some cases because you get an extra placement but overall they're pretty close • The Echo damage is insane on bosses How to Get: Get from Time Chamber with a 0.01% drop chance every 3 minutes Get EVO by getting 6000 takedowns, crafting his EVO item and spending 2500 coins. Eyzan EVO Mythic • One of the best Mythics and you can get it via the Battle Pass and he's great for Infinite too • On max upgrade reaches almost Secret-level DPS • The only downside is the 2 placement max How to Evolve: 4000 takedowns, 2750 and craft EVO item. Red Emperor EVO Mythic • Top 3 Mythic in terms of raw damage • Stacks up a lot of Bleed damage • The Cone AOE is pretty good, you just have to position him well since you only get 2 placements • Becomes really powerful with the evolution but it's one of the most expensive ones in the game How to Evolve: 9000 takedowns, 5000 coins and craft EVO item Asto EVO Mythic • Basically the Dark version of Shanks with Bleed and Circle AOE instead of cone • Also two placements but not as much DPS, still one of the best Mythics in the game though How to Evolve: 8000 takedowns, 5000 coins and craft EVO item Shadow Monarch EVO Mythic • Bleed is the best DoT in the game and Shadow Monach also has it like Shanks and Astra • Basically you can't go wrong with either, just select one out of the three of them based on the element you need How to Evolve: 6000 takedowns, 3000 coins and craft EVO item S-Tier Support S-Tier Support Units Why S-Tier? Time Wizard EVO Secret • One of the two best slow units in the game • Decent DPS for secondary-damage output • Position him at the end of a row because he's a Line AOE unit • Try not to stack positions too much since you only get 2 placements so use them wisely to get as much slow as possible in Infinite How to Get: Get from Hage Village Ultra Stage Act 3 at 1% drop for Normal and 2% for Hard Get EVO by getting 7000 takedowns, crafting his EVO item and spending 3500 coins. Ant King EVO Secret • An alternative slow DPS unit to Time Wizard that you're able to get sooner because he's in the event • Otherwise he does the same thing but with the Water element • Great for Infinite How to Get: Get from The Ant King Boss Event at 0.5% drop for Normal and 1% for Hard Get EVO by getting 7000 takedowns, crafting his EVO item and spending 4500 coins. Bulm Epic • The only Farm unit in the game that you should spin for ASAP • Useful in any team both as a starter and a general unit, especially in Infinite Healing Hunter Legendary • The best healer in the game and a must-have support in Infinite Sea God EVO Mythic • Sea God is your go-to option for slowing units and dealing pretty decent secondary-damage if you don't have Time Wizard or Ant King • That said he's a bit expensive to get in terms of the Evo requirements How to Evolve: 7000 takedowns, 6000 coins and craft EVO item A-Tier DPS A-Tier DPS Units Why A-Tier? Kuroku Black EVO Mythic • The best Mythic DPS in A-Tier and cheap to place compared to the others • Offers Circle AOE and great DPS but with only 2 placements • Bleed is better than Haunt IMO but this unit will carry you until you get better Mythics or your first Secret How to Evolve: 6000 takedowns, 7500 coins and craft EVO item Bushy Brows EVO Mythic • A great alternative to the S-Tier Mythics if you need an Earth DPS • Has the Echo ability on Heavy Strike like Kaiju 8 and Crack on Lotus which is good AOE damage applied by his Line attacks How to Evolve: 7000 takedowns, 6000 coins and craft EVO item Jonos EVO Mythic • Similar to Rock Lee but has Scorch and is a Fire element How to Evolve: 3500 takedowns, 5000 coins and craft EVO item Limitless Sorcerer EVO Mythic • Offers slightly less DPS than other Mythics but has 3 Placements and is easier to Evolve • That said, I would go for another Mythic How to Evolve: 4000 takedowns, 2750 coins and craft EVO item A-Tier Support A-Tier Support Units Why A-Tier? Oreheme Epic • An alternative heal option if you don't have the Healing Hunter legendary • It is cheaper to place than HH Rukio Rare • A great early to mid-game beginner option for slowing units B-Tier DPS B-Tier DPS Units Why B-Tier? Pick Your Favorite Legendaries • You should aim for your first Legendary ASAP so that you can farm Mythics • All of them are mid for Infinite and late-game so pick your favorites just to farm for higher-tier Mythics • You won't be using these in Infinite and the late-game so it doesn't matter which one you go for That's it for my Anime Ultra Verse unit tier list and guide.
