We in the tech world call October, “Tech-tober”, and this year the month is truly living up to that name with a raft of major product launches, which for the team at TechRadar means producing a raft of hands-on first-impressions pieces and full reviews.
The spatial computing sector is now officially a market with two major products, one an update – the
Apple Vision Pro M5 – and the other brand-new – the
Samsung Galaxy XR. While the new Vision Pro is unchanged from the original save for the Apple silicon inside, Samsung’s XR headset is a whole different proposition in terms of both weight and price.
The same new M5 chip that’s inside the Vision Pro, which I’ve reviewed, is also powering the new
14-inch MacBook Pro and
11-inch iPad Pro, both of which we’ve also reviewed. We discuss all the new Apple M5 products, and ponder the fate of the still very new iPhone Air in
our latest podcast (you didn't know we have a podcast? Now you do. Subscribe and share).
If that wasn’t enough for this week, we now have a new AI-powered browser:
OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas. It’s Chromium underneath, but still pretty impressive.
Copilot also got a major update, but that mostly OpenAI model-powered platform doesn't have the same kind of cachet as ChatGPT.
All these new devices and platforms arrived too late for
TechRadar’s annual Choice Awards, but the products that did make our winners’ podium is the tech gear you should probably be buying right now, or at least during the Christmas and holiday shopping season.
In the world of entertainment, I’m left wondering if I should keep paying for yet another streaming service that just raised its prices. Remember cable? Maybe we just go back to that.
Enjoy your weekend and your pumpkin carving, and we’ll see you next week for a halloween edition of the week in review!
