What is it about AI users that they insist on wanting kind, friendly, perhaps sycophantic chatbots? Every time there’s an update
they complain that the new one is too buttoned down, too unemotional. People… it’s AI, not your friend. In any case,
the latest GPT 5.2 update is actually interesting because some think it’s in response to OpenAI’s concerns that Gemini is eating its lunch and, because of that, boss Sam Altman has
declared a 'code red' at the company.
The more important development here might be the likely
inevitable rise of ads in our AI experience. It hasn't happened yet, but most believe it soon will. Things weren’t much better on the robotics front, where one humanoid company CEO thought it was a good idea to
let his robot kick him in the gut. Just the image we need to carry us into 2026.
I am feeling a bit sad about the
possible demise of the Galaxy Ring. It’s a great wearable, but rumor has it that it might not get a big upgrade because consumers are ignoring it in favor of the Oura… oh wait, I wear an Oura every day. *sigh*
As you approach your holiday downtime and want to cut out all the tech-pocolypse noise, you might turn your attention to
Apple’s list of the most popular free iPhone apps of 2025. I like lists like this because they reveal all sorts of hidden interactive gems I've never heard of before – I may even download a few.
An even better distraction is the
brief Supergirl trailer – for me it was a real bright spot this week that promises a superhero for our times. She’s funny, messy, in need of assistance, and also quite capable of giving superpower assistance. I like her already.
Okay, back to the tree trimming and cookie baking. These things don’t get done by themselves.
See you next week.
