Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, January 14, 2026 6:56 AM BioWare's misbegotten mech-me-do Anthem died this week after EA pulled the official servers. It's a sad day for people who saw promise in the game's sci-fi world and flight mechanics, however spoiled by the always-online looter-shooting, and a happy day for people who really hated being called "freelancer" in community bulletins. I was an actual freelancer when Anthem came out in 2019, and I didn't get no mech suit. At least when the Destiny developers call you a Guardian, it feels sort of romantic, rather than like rubbing your nose in your own economic precarity. Anyway, 'officially unsupported' doesn't necessarily mean 'gone for good'. In one of his many tell-all videos, former Anthem executive producer and Dragon Age/Mass Effect kingpin Mark Darrah has outlined a plan for bringing Anthem back as a single-player RPG, with a "conservative" budget of $10 million. |

Brothers! The hour of motion is at hand. Games Workshop have banned their employees from using generative AI tools to create or design Warhammer stuff, because their senior management don't consider the technology very "exciting". Their CEO also seems irked about software companies shoving generative AI into every new device or system update, whether it's desired or not. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Wednesday, January 14, 2026 5:20 AM Regardless of whether you've laid hands on the plastic contours of a Steam Deck, you've probably seen the Steam Deck Verified programme in action: badges of honour (or of 'Unsupported' disgrace) on a game's Steam store page, reflecting how well it runs and plays on the portable PC per Valve's in-house testing. The programme is being expanded to include the upcoming Steam Machine too, and is set to bestow a lot more games with Steam Machine Verified status, given what a Valve designer calls "fewer restraints" in their judging criteria. |

Inventory is one of the most important things to manage in Hytale, and getting the Backpack and its upgrades is going to be immensely helpful.
When you start your adventure, you will have enough space for all the essential resources you need. However, the space will start to run out as you unlock more recipes and upgrades for your existing workstations.
This guide will provide you with all the necessary details to get the maximum amount of inventory space.
Table of contents
How to get the Backpack in Hytale
Our first requirement for extra inventory space is to craft the Backpack. To do so, you'll first have to craft a Workbench. At tier 1, you'll need three stones and four logs of any type. Once done, you can upgrade the Workbench to tier 2 using the following resources.
For the first two resources, you'll need to mine Copper and Iron. Once done, put the items into a Furnace to turn them into Ingots. Linen Scraps are available when you defeat humanoid enemies (Skeletons, for example).
Once you've upgraded your Workbench to Tier 2, you can then unlock the recipe and create a Backpack using the following resources:
Once you have the upgrade recipe in your inventory, move it to the hotbar. Press the RMB to consume it, and then craft the Backpack. Once done, you'll get an additional set of slots.
How to upgrade your Backpack in Hytale
There are two available upgrades for the Backpack. The first one is available when you upgrade the Workbench to tier 3. You'll need the following items:
The second Backpack upgrade requires you to submit 100 Memories at the Forgotten Temple. The recipe requires the following items.
The default Backpack adds 9 extra slots on top of all the ones available in your inventory. The two subsequent upgrades will further increase the available slots.

The map of Hytale has plenty of important locations for you to visit, and you should begin with the Forgotten Temple.
This specific POI is pretty close to where you spawn on your map. The place has plenty of use when you go over there and exchange Memories. This guide will explain the complete process, along with how to find the Forgotten Temple.
Table of contents
Forgotten Temple location in Hytale
While the Forgotten Temple is going to be always pretty close to your spawn point, its actual location is going to be different for every player. However, there's an easy way to find out the place.
The top of your screen has a navigation bar where a few important waypoints are shown. Some of the more basic ones will be the waypoints that lead to your bed, and death markers (if any). The Forgotten Temple will also be shown from the moment you log in.
The marker resembles a teleporter with a small circle in the middle, and four arrow-like shapes surrounding it. Keep following the marker, and you'll eventually reach the Forgotten Temple. While you can visit the place pretty early, you should prepare in advance.
I have encountered plenty of enemies while trying to reach the spot. The exact enemies will differ, but it's paramount for you to take proper gear to not die on your journey.
Once you're close, you'll find an opening that leads you to the statue inside. Head down the stairs and you'll eventually blue portal. You'll find a Golem at the entrance. Avoid its charge, and try not to fight it. You shouldn't have a problem trying to skip past the Golem, as it's really slow.
How to restore Memories in Hytale
You'll find the Heart of Orbis statue inside the Forgotten Temple. It will start glowing as you approach it. Press the F key on your keyboard to interact with it, and a message will pop up. At this point, you'll have unlocked the Memories feature.
Once unlocked, you can collect Memories from various sources. You can find them from different enemies and creatures. Some NPCs can also reward you with memories.
To restore them, head back to the Heart of Orbis and hit the displayed button. Keep restoring more Memories, and you'll get new rewards based on your progression. This can be new craftable items, teleporters, and recipes.

Contraband is a thing in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, as certain survivors will try to smuggle in completely illegal items.
The Contraband feature activates once you've progressed through the first few days. You'll start noticing survivors appearing with bags. When you open these bags, certain items will pop up on the nearby table. Then begins your task of segregating the items based on their nature.

Which items should you take in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
Whenever you find anything dangerous in the bag, you should snatch it immediately. Here's a list of items that you should immediately seize.
Basically, you'll want to seize anything that can be used by the survivor to attack someone else. Additionally, you'll occasionally find some survivors who carry infected body parts. You should immediately seize the item and treat the survivor as infected.
Traditionally, a survivor is considered to be infected if they have telltale signs of it. However, a survivor should also be considered infected if they're found carrying infected organs and body parts.
Which items are safe in Quarantine Zone: The Last Check
Here's a list of everyday items you'll find in bags that are entirely safe.
These items are considered to be safe to carry, and you shouldn't take them. If you do, you'll be fined $100 for every wrong item. Since you can't return what you pick, selecting several wrong items will negatively impact your balance.
