Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, March 3, 2026 5:53 PM Vampire Survivors clones! They're a dime a dozen these days, primarily because poncle created an admittedly very strong template to mimic. This week's bullet heaven, as the genre has come to be known, is a charming little entry called Antivirus Survivors 2003 Professional, a take on the format that imagines a world where your Windows XP running computer's icons all want to kill you. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Tuesday, March 3, 2026 3:58 PM The above headline will not be a particularly surprising one, but just to make sure it's absolutely clear, developer Wildlight have confirmed that their raid shooter Highguard will be closing its servers from next week, March 12th. The team confirmed as much in a post shared to the game's official Twitter account, where it went into (very little) detail about what's next. |

Bandai Namco announced it will reveal a new RPG on March 5, 2026, and it confirmed a video presentation will go over the new game. That will air at 3pm PT/6pm ET/12am CET. The YouTube placeholder is now live.
Here's the placeholder. The description doesn't offer any hints as to whether this is an entirely new title or a release in an existing line tied to a series like Tales or Elden Ring. The description only noted, "A serenity soon to be disturbed."
Bandai Namco is known for multiple RPGs. In addition to the Tales of series and its work with FromSoftware on games like Elden Ring and Dark Souls. It's also been behind titles like Scarlet Nexus and God Eater. Based on the text and color scheme, that teaser image on YouTube could and up applying to many of those aforementioned series. Of those, Scarlet Nexus did leave off on something of a possible cliffhanger and hint at possible future story options.
March 5, 2026 will be a busy day for announcements. In addition to this Bandai Namco reveal, there will be some Capcom ones. That company will air its Capcom Spotlight before this at 2pm PT/5pm ET/11pm CET.
The new Bandai Namco RPG will appear for the first time at 3pm PT/6pm ET on March 5, 2026.

Square Enix started sharing a series of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Character Preview trailers highlighting different units we'll use in the game, and the first focuses on Prompto from FFXV. He's the sole representative of that mainline installment in the game at launch, rather than the game's lead Noctis. An array of gameplay footage focused on him comes up.
The Prompto Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy Character Preview begins by showing a clip of him in that game, before offering a look at him from FFXV so we can compare the two portrayals. After that, we see full art and a note confirming Tetsuya Kakihara will still be the Japanese voice actor for "the prince's bestie." (He's reprising his role from the original game and Brotherhood: FFXV.)
From there, we see the gameplay footage. First, there's a look at the team, with him looking back at Cloud and Warrior of Light, then taking a photo of them together. We then see how he works as a long-range character, shooting at enemies with his gun. Some of the abilities he then uses are Alea Bazooka, Lumen Flare, Crackshot, and Trigger-Happy. Things end with event scene footage of him saying, "Walk tall… Right. The people of this world are countin' on us, after all."
Here's his full video:
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will come to Android and iOS mobile devices in March 2026, and pre-registration is open now. While the exact release date hasn't been set, the App Store page features a tentative March 31, 2026 one on it.

The YouTube placeholder is already live in multiple languages. This includes titles releasing this month, like Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflections, and ongoing ones such as Street Fighter 6.
The official announcement on social media confirmed four games that will appear during the presentation, however Capcom's website also showed art for the new Mega Man game called Mega Man: Dual Override. All of the games, save for that, have release dates. Since this is a 30-minute showcase, that could end up being all that appears and the each game could get about six minutes.
Here's the list of everything that will be shown off:

Bandai Namco will add two new Mega Man figures to its Grandista line in Japan on March 5, 2026. Both will appear as prize figures, though one is a Capcom exclusive that will only appear at its stores. That is also the one that is already available to pre-order worldwide via the Banpresto Amazon storefront for $35. There are product listings at Big Bad Toy Store, but both sold out.
Both of these figures are identical, aside from their finishes. The standard model has a matte look to it, and that's the one that will be more widely available in Japan. The Capcom exclusive has a metallic finish to it. But both show the character in his blue suit with his helmet on and in a pose where his right fist is raised and his left arm has the Mega Buster arm cannon at the ready. Both will stand at over eight and a half inches tall (22cm).
Here are the official images for each one:
Figures of Mega Man show up rather frequently and from various companies. Bandai Namco's Banpresto line shared many in the past. In May 2026, for example, a MegaMan.EXE one will appear in the Grandista line in Japan.
The Grandista Mega Man standard and Capcom exclusive metallic figures will launch in Japan on March 5, 2026, then show up worldwide after that.

More Sanrio Tamagotchi Nano models are on the way, and the latest virtual pet involves Pompompurin. These involve the mascot as a guest who appears alongside the traditional Bandai Namco characters. Basic Orange and Magical Pink versions will appear for 2,860円 (~$18) in Japan on April 11, 2026. There's no North American release window yet, but all previous toys in this line did end up eventually appearing worldwide.
The outer shell variety is cosmetic only, as both versions of the virtual pet work the same. You'll raise a traditional Tamagotchi egg and character, with your level of care determining which pet you get. The difference here is that Pompompurin appears to help you care for and raise your it. The Sanrio mascot shows up for events and during certain actions. His friends Bagel the squirrel, Muffin the hamster, and Scone the mouse are also shown in the teaser images. Once a Tamagotchi character becomes an adult, they can also dress like Pompompurin.
Here are all the official images of these two models shared so far.
Lots of Sanrio Tamagotchi Nano models showed up over the years to honor certain characters. The Hello Kitty variety, with two different cases, showed up first. That was followed by a pair of My Melody and Kuromi ones. All of these eventually appeared worldwide for about $24.99 each.
The Pompompurin Tamagotchi Nano virtual pet models will debut in Japan on April 11, 2026.

The Division 2 has a fresh set of Twitch Drops for all to get for free as part of the 10 year anniversary of the franchise, and there are some cool items to be earned.
While this is the latest round of Twitch drops you can get, the process remains the same. Let's quickly look at all the items that you can get as part of the celebrations.
Table of contents
How to get all 10 Year Anniversary Twitch Drops in The Division 2
There are five different rewards to win as part of the latest Twitch Drops. Here's a list of everything you can earn by simply watching partnered streams of The Division 2 on Twitch.
To unlock the rewards, keep watching the streams until you hit the milestones. You can do so between now and March 10 (until 5am CT).
It's not necessary to watch the complete duration in a single seating. You can also accrue up the hours across multiple streamers. Make sure that the drops are enabled for you to get the rewards.
How to redeem the 10 Year Anniversary Twitch Drops
To make yourself eligible, you'll need to link your Twitch account with your Ubisoft Connect account. This is an one time process. Once done, you're now eligible for the rewards. Next, just watch the streams for the required durations, and you'll unlock the rewards as applicable for the milestone.
Then, redeem the rewards for them to appear in your in-game messages. You can then accept the rewards and add them to your inventory. With plenty of new content in the pipeline for this year, it might be a good decision to follow the streams to find out what's new during the Anniversary season that will be live until Apr. 2.

Highguard is now confirmed to be the latest in a long line of failed live-service shooters, after an announcement today.
On Feb. 12, news came out that many developers from Wildlight Entertainment had been laid off, leaving a small team behind to work on updating the game, so this news felt inevitable. And Wildlight announced today that on March 12, the game's servers will be shut down for good.
"Since launch, more than two million players stepped into Highguard's world," the devs said. "You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful. Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12. We hope you'll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can."
One final game update will be coming between now and the shutdown, adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees, basically just to show what could have been if the title took off like the studio hoped it would.
Arguments about why Highguard failed will continue for a while, but the fact is it couldn't grab enough players to sustain the business, and so it joins the ranks of many games that attempted to build a playerbase to keep it alive for a while.
When I attended the Highguard hands-on event in LA at the end of January, I never would have thought we'd end up here, at least not so quickly. Everyone in attendance enjoyed the title, shared feedback, and were excited for its launch. What ensued on and after the Jan. 26 release day can only be described as disastrous from the game's standpoint, despite several timely updates to try and keep players interested.
But in the end, it did not catch on like Wildlight anticipated (for a variety of reasons and mistakes made along the way), and so the devs left in its wake will be forced to find whatever's next in their own journeys. I wish them all luck in that endeavor.

When it comes to extraction shooters, you have to be a bit market-savvy when it comes to purchasing gear to use on your gameplay. In Marathon, there are multiple currencies to keep in mind when doing so.
The days of games having just one currency to purchase in-game items are long gone. Marathon has at least three different currencies at launch, and they all serve different functions, whether it be buying cosmetics, upgrading your loadout, or just earning rewards.
Here's everything there is to know about Marathon's currencies so you can do your absolute best to stay rich while burning through Runner Shells.
Table of contents
All in-game currencies in Marathon
LUX
In Marathon, LUX is the premium currency that must be bought with real-world money, similar to Silver in Destiny 2, Bungie's other FPS. In the US, LUX works out to be about one dollar per 100 LUX.
Like in Destiny 2, you can get bonus LUX the more you spend. For launch, this is how LUX is expected to be priced in the US:
LUX is limited by your account and platform, meaning if you have LUX on one platform but own Marathon on multiple, you will only be able to use the LUX on the platform you bought it on.
Credits
The main and most common currency in Marathon, Credits are used to purchase in-game gear and items from the Armory. Some random loot you acquire on runs is automatically sold when you extract successfully, and you can also sell just about any other item you own (weapons, mods, shields, etc.) for Credits to use across the game.
Credits are also used to buy individual Faction upgrades and skills, so it will always be a very important currency and one you want to have a good amount of on hand at any time.
Silk
The third main currency in Marathon, Silk is used to purchase upgrades from the Reward Pass. As you play in each season, you can earn Silk by leveling up (and potentially some other tasks) and then use the Silk to unlock whatever is within the Reward Pass.

Marathon goes live worldwide on March 5, and you can pre-download the files on your platform in advance.
Doing so will allow you to save time when the launch actually happens. If you're short of storage space, you also get the time to erase some files that you don't need. This guide will provide you with all the important information you'll need regarding Marathon's pre-load.
Table of contents
How to pre-load Marathon
The pre-load system for Marathon is largely the same, but differs slightly based on the platform.
Steam
As you can see from the screenshot above, the pre-load option should automatically appear on your Steam library. If you have multiple games available for pre-load, you have to choose Marathon from your in-app library manually.
This will begin the pre-load, and all you need to do is just wait for the files to be installed.
PlayStation
Open the console and choose Marathon from the main menu of the PSN store. Alternatively, you can do the same from your library. Open the game's store page, and then begin the download process. The process of download and installation is the same.
Xbox
The steps are the same as mentioned under the PlayStation section above. However, you'll also need to purchase the game first if you haven't done that. There are two editions to pick from; go for the Deluxe edition if you want bonus cosmetics to customize the looks of your weapons and runners.
All Marathon pre-load sizes
Marathon required 15GB of data to download during Server Slam. While the full version will be bigger, it's not by much. Here's approximately how much space you'll need for the pre-load.
I was certainly expecting the file sizes to be larger (given we are getting plenty more content compared to what we had in Server Slam). Hence, it's great for those of you who have a shortage of storage space on your drives.
While pre-loading it won't allow you to get in early since there's no early access, it will help you save time after the full launch.

The Division 2 is turning eight this year, and we'll see lots of new content throughout the course of the year.
Ubisoft has revealed plenty of amazing things for the game on the 10 Year Anniversary livestream. Some of the new content is already live as part of the Anniversary season. The rest of the content will be released when Year 8 Season 1 goes live (and beyond).
The Division 2 2026 Roadmap
Here's the content that's already live in the game.
Next, let's look at all the content arriving later this year.
Ubisoft has also announced a new DLC coming later this year. Located around Central Park, expect to find new missions, items, and gears when the DLC goes live. We are yet to get a date, but it's safe to expect it somewhere during the second quarter.
In short, there's never been a better time to start playing The Division 2, as you can also take advantage of the XP modifier that's currently active.

The Birthday Warmup Evolution is now live in FC 26, and it appears that EA Sports is beginning the FUT Birthday celebrations early.
This paid evolution is pretty expensive at 60,000 coins, but it offers a unique set of boosts. While your chosen card won't receive any stat boosts, playstyles, or roles, its weak foot and skills will be upgraded to five stars.
Let's look at the best possible candidates for this evolution so that you don't waste your hard-earned coins.
Table of contents
FC 26 Birthday Warmup Evolution requirements
Here are the requirements of the Birthday Warmup Evolution in FC 26.
FC 26 Birthday Warmup Evolution upgrades
The evolution has only one level of upgrades.
Level 1 upgrades
To get the upgrades, you'll need to lock your card in the evolution for three days. While the evolution is active, you won't be able to use the card in your active squads.
Best players to use in Birthday Warmup Evolution
Here are some of my best recommendations for inclusion in the evolution.
If you use this evolution as a standalone, it won't be worth the coins. However, if you can include it in a chain, the potential value improves a lot. For example, you can use it on an 87-rated card to give it five-star weak foot and skill moves.
Next, you can either add a playstyle+ manually or use it in an evolution that adds a second playstyle+. This evolution will be focused on improving the cards' stats and adding more playstyles and roles. Having such a strong card with five-star weak foot and skills will be immensely helpful in all competitive modes.

Operation Silent Hunt is now live in Rainbow Six Siege, and you can get Black Ice Packs to get some unique customization options for your guns.
While the headline feature for the new season is Solid Snake as a new operator, you can make some of your old guns look new. Let's find out how to get Black Ice Packs in the new season, and what cosmetics we can look forward to.
Table of contents
How to get Black Ice Packs in Rainbow Six Siege Y11S1
If you're taking part in Year 11 Season 1, the only way to get Black Ice Packs is from the new battle pass. The pass has plenty of rewards that you'll unlock throughout the course of the season. To get the Black Ice Packs, you'll have to get new levels and also unlock the Premium Pass.
As of writing, there's no alternative way to obtain a Black Ice Pack (apart from grinding the battle pass).
All Rainbow Six Siege Black Ice skin variants and weapons
Not only are the Black Ice skins rare, but they're not universal. You can only use them on specific weapons. Here are all the variants of the Black Ice skins currently available in the new season.

Season 1 content
Season 1 will be our first proper initiation to Tau Ceti IV, and it will be far more hostile than the Server Slam version. Here are the key things we can expect as part of the first season.
Season 2 content
While Bungie hasn't explicitly explained what will go into Season 2 and beyond, we can form some ideas from the information we have.

Seasonal content is coming to Bungie's FPS extraction shooter Marathon shortly after launch, and every few months, there will be more to look forward to.
As an extraction shooter, Marathon will have occasional inventory resets (commonly known as "wipes") to keep the game fresh so players don't hoard the best gear. This encourages Runners to use what they have, especially when a reset approaches, to increase the stakes and fun involved.
Here's what Bungie has revealed about how seasons and wipes will work in Marathon.
Marathon wipes and seasons explained
Seasonal progression
Beginning with season one, players in Marathon will strive to get gear, complete contracts, and level up to earn upgrades for their Runner Shells while fighting other players and UESC AI enemies.
"As you master survival and grow your available resource pool, you'll be able to take on increasingly challenging contracts, zones, and enemy Runners," Bungie explained. "Climb the Ranked ladder, prep for high-stakes Cryo Archive runs, and secure the most lucrative loot and prestigious rewards of the season."
But with each new season comes a new reset and wipe.
Inventory wipes
"Everyone will start fresh each season with nothing to their name and the constant threat of death in a world more lethal and powerful than you are," Bungie said. This means that each season, everyone's gear, contract progression, faction progression, and player level will be reset.
Players will keep things like cosmetics, titles, Codex progression, and liaison contract progression, meaning you won't have to unlock Factions every single season.
The first wipe for Marathon is coming in season two, Nightfall, which launches in June 2026.
Marathon 2026 roadmap
In season one, the full slate of launch content will be rolled out, including the new map Cryo Archive, Ranked Mode, a new gun, new Implants, and a special limited-time event. Season one, First Step, runs from March through May.
"Each season of Marathon will have a different theme and a unique combination of new features, content, and stories that continue to evolve the world and gameplay," Bungie said. "We'll also be tuning all of our loot and progression systems, creating space for new metas and ways to play to emerge."
But in June, season two begins, and the seasonal rollout continues, with each season adding new content that "can include any combination of: weapons, mods, cores, implants, backpacks, Runner shells, zones, PvE combatants, faction upgrades, contracts, and new ways to play existing zones."

I'll be ranking all units based on their EVO forms and assuming best rolled stats for DPS, Support and Farm categories. In general, you'll need at least one support, one farm and fill the rest with DPS units. Here's my Anime Paradox tier list and guide.
Table of contents
Anime Paradox Best Unit Tier List
The best units in Anime Paradox depend on what role you need whether it's DPS, Support, Farm or starter/beginner. In general, the best units are in the Meta or S-Tier. That said, supports matter as well since enemies will do chip damage to your units every wave. This means that you should bring at least one healer from the support section for harder modes. Not all supports are healers though since Ulquiarro or Kirrua also slow or stun enemies. Let's dive into each individual unit below and discuss their rankings.

The original Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a 2003 3rd-person gothic horror action-adventure title where the two main characters from Blood Omen and Soul Reaver go on a killing and puzzle-solving spree to take down an Eldritch deity.
It's been a while, but remastering Defiance was always a good idea. Gaming narratives have matured comparatively to most games of that time, but not to the Legacy of Kain series, courtesy of its timeless writing and voice acting. Now, we finally have a remastered version, and the long wait has been worth it.
At the core of this story is the event where Kain, the vampire ruler of Nosgoth, tries to kill Raziel for a supposed betrayal, albeit one that was completely out of his control. Having somewhat survived the attempt on his life, the stage was set for Raziel's story to play out like yet another revenge tale, but the series surprised everyone as it morphed into much more complex themes of free will versus predestination, and deep examinations of the concept of self-sacrifice. Defiance's overarching plot remains the best video game example of embracing complexity without becoming an utter mess.
Defiance serves as the conclusion of this long-spanning saga, so jumping in blind to the final chapter of a story rife with wild turns and betrayals that I won't spoil would probably prove too confusing. Luckily, not only is the story great, but so is the game's treatment of anyone trying to engage with it. The remastered's bonus materials include "The History of Nosgoth," a tight explanation of everything that transpired up until the beginning of Defiance. On the surface, Crystal Dynamics did everything right to ensure a presentation that would welcome fans and newcomers alike. Let's dive deeper.
Defiance's elephant in the room
The remaster offers fresh free-roaming, excellent platforming, fun sword combat, a wide array of supernatural powers, and plenty of puzzle-solving. Between the puzzle segments, players will encounter regular enemies to dispose of through hand-to-hand combat and a few boss fights, whose encounters played like a more action-y puzzle.
We play as Raziel and Kain, two incredibly powerful vampires who have access to telekinetic abilities and swords they can use to dispose of hordes of enemies in deliciously bloody fashion. Though there are two different playable characters, most of their combat moveset is shared. Aside from a few key abilities, like Raziel's ability to shift to a different plane of existence, most of the game plays just the same regardless of character, and you're likely to enjoy both.
Defiance's original problem is finally vanquished
The original Defiance did away with the free camera style for a weird, semi-fixed camera that greatly impacts all aspects of its gameplay. The world of Nosgoth was always scary, but in a way that made you feel small compared to its grandeur, never imprisoned. Defiance's original camera made Nosgoth feel claustrophobic, the combat less fun, and, worst of all, the platforming segments absolutely torturous. That has been fixed via the new "Remastered Camera." It behaves just like the free camera you see in most third-person games nowadays, and it works great. It finally makes platforming fun again because you can once again see where you're jumping, which seems simple, but will likely shave off hours from newcomers' first playthroughs.
My Remastered playthrough lasted roughly the same nine hours that my original one did, but that's because the 20 percent of wandering around and 80 percent of repeating jumps have been replaced by a lot of time taking cool screenshots.
Taking a note from the Aspyr remasters of the classic Tomb Raider and Soul Reaver games, Crystal Dynamics' Defiance remaster also offers greatly enhanced textures, lighting, and beautifully re-modelled characters that we can all gaze upon so much better now. The graphical overhaul definitely doesn't make Defiance visually comparable to more modern titles like Expedition 33 in terms of realism, but it respects the vision behind the already beautiful models of the original, giving them more than enough charm to captivate players for the long run.
And it comes with some fantastic extra content
The remaster also adds lots of sweet bonus content: a ton of beautiful concept art, music, story tidbits, and a surprising number of levels that didn't make it to the original or remastered versions of the game.
There are also various welcome quality-of-life improvements. Defiance is an exploration-heavy game, and getting lost in an old game might feel even more embarrassing than in a modern one. Luckily, the remaster features all sorts of discrete little mechanics, such as an improved map and trackers that players who end up feeling lost can make use of.
The new Defiance also has all the features you'd expect from a modern remaster, and even cool new additions for people who I won't judge for enjoying pain. As became customary, players can perform on-the-fly swaps between the new graphics and the old, and now they can also swap between the "remastered" camera mode and the old one.
You can go back to the old graphics to feel the nostalgia, and you can go back to the old camera to relive all the frustration and the nightmares! No joke. Early in the game, my camera went back to the original mode, and my mind immediately raced to the thought that I had been had, that Defiance would never escape the clutches of the horrid semi-fixed camera of old, either because of a glitch, or because the devs had been working in tandem with the Elder God all along.
Neither was the case. I had just accidentally pressed the toggle button, unaware of the consequences. If you, too, are an old fan of the series now getting into the remastered Defiance to see what could've been, you might want to preemptively unmap R2 to avoid one of the darkest unintentional jumpscares modern gaming can deliver.
Does Defiance Remastered make up for the lost time?
Had this version released back in '03, it likely would've been a contender for best adventure platformer of its time. Still, games have evolved a lot since then, and a long-overdue camera change might not be enough to justify the $25 tag versus similar games of today.
My honest opinion, as a fan, is that this is definitely worth getting. Every new change massively improves the game. The combat is more simplistic than what you'll find in the best Devil May Cry entries, and there are mandatory encounters against enemies that feel like unnecessary filler. Still, this unique story of gothic horror remains more than entertaining and engrossing enough even today, especially if you play it with a controller, but definitely enjoyable even on mouse and keyboard. It's also prettier than ever.
Defiance remastered is a triumph, even if an obvious one. Unlike the Angel of Darkness remaster, a game so broken that no amount of rework could turn it fully playable, Defiance was always the simplest and most obvious of vision tweaks away from brilliance. One can only imagine how much of a splash it could've made way back in '03 if released in proper form. Here's hoping this excellent rework will find enough of a new player base to get the wheel of fate turning in its favor once more.
Legacy of Kain: Defiance Remastered is now out on PC, Xbox X|S, PlayStation 4, 5, Switch, and Switch 2.
