| PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 2:27 PM | | If you've played Final Fantasy XIV, you've probably walked past a mostly-nude Miqo'te dancing in Limsa Lominsa with the RP icon next to their name. If you know, you know. If you don't, you should keep walking. Today, the developers of FFXIV have issued a major expansion on the rules around harassment, and it includes some specific guidelines on erotic role-playing scenarios. Using emotes to "mimic grinding against another character" or that are "evocative of sexual activities" is an "obscene/indecent expression" and thus violation of the rules - if you're doing it in public or with a partner who's not into the whole thing. Basically, these things are technically against the rules, but you're only likely to get in trouble for it if you're reported. "In the case of role-playing involving mildly sexual expressions (such as erotic role-playing) with a consenting group of two or more players, if it is conducted in a private area, it will not be considered a violation unless a report is made," the devs explain in the new rules. "However, if you encourage or invite a player to participate in such role-play without being certain of their consent, there is a high possibility that you will be reported and penalized. Please be very careful." RELATED LINKS: FFXIV Shadowbringers review, FFXIV Gunbreaker job guide, FFXIV Dancer job guide

| PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 1:53 PM | | The latest patch for Elite Dangerous Odyssey is out now, and it's a hefty one. The space game's big expansion, which allows you to travel across planetary surfaces on foot and explore bases and orbital stations in first-person, now includes an emote wheel - which allows players to finally salute each other, as they've traditionally done by typing 'o7' in chat. Odyssey Update 8's new emote wheel includes emotes you can select (or assign to hotkeys) for salute, wave, applaud, disagree (thumbs down), agree (thumbs up), point, stop, and advance. Frontier suggests this is a physical way to express yourself in game beyond the traditional crouch-stand-crouch-stand gesture players have been subjecting each other to since time immemorial. The point emote also adds a marker wherever you direct your finger, so it can be helpful in coordinating with fellow commanders. There are other big new features in this patch as well, including the ability to disembark on and explore Wells-class megaships. These ships now have their own social spaces inside them, which can offer services such as Inter Astra, Apex Interstellar, Pioneer Supplies, Frontline Solutions, or perhaps just a bartender and an escape pod or two. | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 1:32 PM | | In a talk at this year's Develop: Brighton conference Iain Brown, senior programmer at No Man's Sky developer Hello Games, has given some insight into how Microsoft's Azure cloud computing tech has helped players share the game's procedurally generated universe. And, it turns out it's come in handy in helping to bring one of this year's biggest new features to life - and then keep them a surprise. In a case study talk with Harvey Eagle, director of Azure gaming at Microsoft at the conference, Brown explains how the service's cloud-based tech has helped keep players interested. It seems No Man's Sky's Expeditions, the shared, seasonal exploratory mode rolled into the space game earlier this year, are a great example. For context, these are time-limited events that arrive in-game on a regular basis, though each is "unique" in terms of its exact duration and the milestones (open-ended challenges) players will have to hit to complete it. So, naturally, these Expeditions are something Hello Games would want to keep a surprise until they're rolled out and ready for players to discover. "We don't want people hacking the game client to unlock this mode early or seeing what's coming, or whatever, so all that data lives in the cloud," Brown explains, referring to the Expeditions. "It lives in table storage within Azure and then, at a given time, it will be downloaded to all the clients as they need it." | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 1:07 PM | | The Final Fantasy XIV devs want to do more to combat stalking and harassment, and it seems one of the steps in that process has begun today. The developers have greatly expanded the wording of the rules around harassment, and made clear that stalking can result in an "in-game restraining order" against offending players. Violations may also be penalised if they're discovered through public in-game communications or a stream. Across the board, the rules are largely about consent. Stalking is defined in terms like "persistently moving to locations where someone is, despite being asked to stop the behavior", or "creating new characters to message someone who has blacklisted you, despite being asked to stop the behavior". Once reported, stalking players "will be penalized, and we may contact the victim and obtain their consent to issue an in-game restraining order. Should we confirm that a player has attempted to contact the victim through any means after being issued an in-game restraining order, a more severe penalty will be imposed." | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 1:05 PM | | Intel processors have largely played second fiddle to AMD's Ryzen chips over the last couple of years, in just about every market you can think of. That could all change today, however, following team blue's official reveal of its Alder Lake gaming CPUs at Intel Innovation. The company claims its 12th generation processors offer some serious improvements over its previous Rocket Lake components and could, finally, provide some serious competition to AMD, starting at $264 USD. Pre-orders for the Alder Lake processors are live, but you might want to be quick amid chip shortages if you want to snag one for your gaming PC! If you're not sure which CPU to go for, then read on for our breakdown of each chip announced today. All of Intel's 12th generation components will require a new motherboard with an LGA1700 socket, each of which support PCIe Gen 5 and DDR5 gaming RAM. However, you'll be able to migrate your DDR4 RAM over to your new build, provided your motherboard supports it. | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 12:01 PM | | Surviving the Aftermath is a city builder game that tasks you with rebuilding society after an apocalyptic event. It's been in early access since 2019, with an initial stint as an Epic Games Store exclusive before hitting Steam Early Access just over a year ago today. In total, it's had 20 major updates, with the most recent 'platinum' patch changing pretty much everything about the game. Now, it's ready to leave the safety of its pre-release barricade and step into the wide world of 1.0, which is due to happen next month. Accompanying it will be the 'endgame' update, which will add more late-game colony features, as well as a questline where players can uncover the secrets behind the initial apocalypse, while also preparing their colony to survive a new threat. Game director Lasse Liljedahl states that the community has been heavily involved in the development of the survival game during its run so far. "I don't think I've ever worked on a game where the community was as integral to development," he says. "Truly, every decision, change, and addition we made stemmed from our community feedback… They had just as much a part in development as we have." | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 11:24 AM | | Facing down the horrors of Tzeentch in Total War: Warhammer III is going to be quite the spectacular event, and now we've gotten a look at the bulk of the units planned for the strategy game's weirdest Chaos faction. The Tzeentch roster is heavy on daemons, but unlike the angry red boys found in Khorne's army, Tzeentch's soldiers are creatures of magic, and use it to bend and tear at reality itself - or set things on fire, whichever seems like a better idea at the time. A new post on the official Total War site breaks down Tzeentch's army roster, starting at the top with his legendary lord, Kairos Fateweaver. A massive two-headed bird creature, Kairos' right head sees into the future, whilst his left sees everything in the past. That leaves him with a bit of a blind spot for the present moment, but he makes up for that with a magical barrier - a shield that all Tzeentch units have. Kairos can pick up and use 'fragments' from spell lores that give him access to several of those lores' spells, and his staff of tomorrow can be used to instantly refresh all his own spell cooldowns. He's also got a nasty Gaze of Fate ability that allows him to freeze an enemy unit in its tracks. | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 10:46 AM | | Age of Empires IV's Delhi Sultanate civilisation is another one of the RTS game's more difficult factions, rated a three out of three stars in-game. They are a defensive and research focused civilisation, although they don't have notably unique mechanics like the Mongols or the Abbasid Dynasty - barring one key exception, they largely play like any other faction. This exception is themed around technology - the Delhi Sultanate gets access to the Scholar unit from the Dark Age via the Mosque, which is also available from the start of a match. In addition, this civ gets to research every technology in the game for free - but each tech takes time to complete. This can be sped up by scholars, much like how the Chinese administrator unit can give boosts to economic yields. Scholars only apply their research bonus if they are garrisoning a building, and techs can improve their utility by letting them garrison buildings they wouldn't normally be able to, like the barracks. Other buildings built within the influence range of a Mosque can also get faster research speeds, depending on how many scholars are garrisoned in the Mosque itself. | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 12:19 PM | | Before the dawn of pocket-sized supercomputers, phoneboxes provided a staple service within our cities and towns. Not only did they give Clark Kent somewhere to strip off, but they also ensured a constant line of communication when out and about. While a select few remain in service today, many now live their lives as repurposed miniature coffee shops, libraries, and even defibrillator hubs. Now, it looks like these retro relics are about to take on a new role in the UK as the "world's smallest gaming arcade". Powered by a 5G connection and Nvidia's GeForce Now, the converted kiosks will use a tablet and a controller to access the service, providing users remote access to their gaming PC libraries. While you'll need to stand within this tiny street setup, the booth does feature an integrated mini-fridge, meaning you can stay hydrated while playing within this unconventional space. The green team claims that the cloud gaming booths will help gamers get their "daily gaming fix when they're not at home", but also says it'll help safeguard "work and social life". Weirdly, this makes playing games sound like a risque act, but Nvidia also has data to back up its objectives. RELATED LINKS: RTX 2070 Super review, RTX 2060 Super review, Best graphics card

| PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 9:45 AM | | If the GPU provides the muscle, then it's fair to say the CPU is the brains of your gaming PC. When one can no longer do the heavy lifting, it makes the other's job that much more difficult, causing what is known as a bottleneck. That's why, every once in a while, it's good to perform a CPU upgrade to match the best graphics card and boost FPS in-game. But don't worry, it's much easier than you'd think, even for a beginner. Knowing exactly when to upgrade your processor is tricky, especially since Intel and AMD regularly release new products. Some PC enthusiasts prefer to own the best components available, while others prefer to wait until their rigs are stuttering and ready for retirement. If you want to find out the culprit causing strain on your PC, you can use MSI Afterburner - free overclocking software that displays CPU and GPU loads. Once you've fiddled about with the settings in the software, simply boot a game with it running in the background and keep an eye on the percentages. If your CPU is regularly hitting 90-100% while your GPU isn't, then it's time for that much-needed upgrade. RELATED LINKS: Best SSD for gaming, How to build a gaming PC, Best gaming CPU

| PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 8:14 AM | | Today's the day Intel finally pulls back the curtain on its new Alder Lake desktop CPUs, ushering in a new level of performance with its 12th generation Core lineup at the company's Intel Innovation event. To make sure you're there the minute the announcement comes and pre-orders go live, we have all the information you need to tune in. We have plenty of reason to be excited for Alder Lake given all of the leaks and benchmarks that have cropped up in the run-up to release, but it's especially enticing when compared to the lacklustre performance of its predecessor, Rocket Lake. The new architecture's heterogeneous design does away with the traditional homogenous core and thread count, and combines specialised performance and efficiency cores, which should hopefully result in improvements in power consumption and performance. We can't decree whether Intel's new chips will be among the best gaming CPUs you can pop in your gaming PC until we spend some time testing them, but recently leaked CPU-Z benchmarks put at least one Alder Lake processor miles ahead of its AMD competition. | PCGamesN Wednesday, October 27, 2021 8:52 AM | | Intel's upcoming Alder Lake processors are due to arrive in November, just in time for that new Christmas gaming PC you're looking to build. While team blue's CPUs should officially see the light of day at the Intel Innovation event on October 27, the rumour mill is spinning full-throttle with plenty of leaks on key specs and performance benchmarks. The new chips will be the first to support DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5 which should make them perfect partners for the best gaming RAM and best SSDs of the future. However, you'll be pleased to know that they'll also support your existing DDR4 RAM and PCie SSDs. Intel's proprietary interface technology Thunderbolt 4 will also make a return. It's too early to call whether Alder Lake will put Intel on top in terms of having the best gaming CPU on the market, but the Core i9-12900K, with its reported 16 cores and 24 threads, is shaping up to give AMD's Ryzen 9 5950X a run for the title. Each week you've got a chance at a different weapon for completing Nightfall Strikes, and as of Season of the Lost, you can now get fan-favourite legacy weapons from the original Destiny. Two more of these weapons arrived in Season of the Lost, so it's more important than ever to know in advance the Nightfall weapon schedule. In case all these words are new to you, Nightfall: The Ordeal is a playlist available in the Vanguard menu, alongside the basic Strike playlist. Each week, a different Strike is chosen as the Nightfall, and offered in five escalating difficulties, with harder enemies, challenging modifiers, and enemy power levels cranking up. The coveted Nightfall weapons have a chance to drop from any Nightfall Strike difficulty, but it's far more likely at higher levels. Your best bet for farming each week's Nightfall weapon is to set the Strike to Master difficulty, according to YouTuber Aztecross. You should also note that there's no automatic matchmaking above Hero difficulty, however, so you'll need to get a squad together. | PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, October 27, 2021 2:30 PM | | Paradox Development Studio announced today that the Royal Court expansion for Crusader Kings III has been delayed until 2022. Among the many, many, delay notices we've gotten for games this year, this one is not surprising. Back in August, the developer mentioned the expansion is "going to take longer" than expected. To be frank, the team wasn't set on a concrete release year, but the expansion was somewhat expected to release in 2021. That won't be the case, however, and you'll have to wait to entertain/poison the guests of your court next year. The developer didn't cite the pandemic in the original message.
