Doom meets F.E.A.R. FPS Selaco is getting weaponized pet Roombas

There are many fantastic FPSs in the works but one of the most promising is indie shooter Selaco, which blends together elements of Doom and F.E.A.R. - and if that's not enough, the team has just revealed Selaco's latest innovation: a weaponized Roomba vacuum cleaner. Yes, you can pet it too.

Selaco is an indie FPS that's been in the works for a while now and it's looking enormously promising, with gameplay inspired by Monolith's 2005 classic F.E.A.R. It's also already one of those titles where you can't believe that it's based on the original Doom engine, despite the retro shooter vibe.

The weapons of Selaco have caught attention previously, especially when developer Altered Bit Studios added the iconic Penetrator Nailgun from F.E.A.R. and a deadly banana - but the game's latest addition is both useful and cute. It's a weaponizable pet Roomba, which could give Portal's companion cube a run for its personification money. Simply add a friendly turret to the mobile VAC-BOT and it'll kill anything it encounters while cleaning up the place.

Scarlet Nexus 2 could be made for a

It's been over half a year since the release of Scarlet Nexus - the action RPG from the creators of the Tales Of series about a group of superpowered agents - and the director has opened up about a possible sequel to the anime game, suggesting that Scarlet Nexus 2 would be made with a "more mature audience" in mind.

Scarlet Nexus launched in June 2021 and, while the action and the superpower use against bizarre enemies was all fun, it was a deeply flawed game. One of the biggest problems was the story and characters and how it was difficult to engage with that side of the game, with a real disconnect between the combat and the non-combat areas.

In a new interview with Inverse, game director Kenji Anabuki opened up about "the future for the Scarlet Nexus IP" and a possible sequel - and one thing they want to sort out is that disconnect between the various superpowered adventures and the more mundane story side.

Steam Deck verified playable list passes 100 games, including Nier Replicant

The Steam Deck verified list now includes over a hundred games fully playable, including the popular likes of Nier Replicant, Life is Strange 2, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With just a month to go before the Steam Deck's release date, the list is really expanding - although there are still a few major games that don't work, including Persona 4 Golden.

Earlier this month, Valve started putting compatibility categories for games on Steam to say whether or not they worked with Steam Deck. While Valve is confident that the major of PC games will work with Steam Deck out of the box, it still has a team furiously playing through games to verify them officially.

While the list isn't available officially yet, Reddit user ayyvery42 or Boiling Steam have their own lists that show that Steam Deck now has over a hundred games fully verified or playable - meaning, runs totally fine but may not have touchscreen support in some places - and only a handful unsupported.

Halo TV series trailer release time: Paramount show official reveal drops today

The first full official Halo Paramount series trailer is dropping today, just a month after the release of Halo Infinite, and it's set to debut around the halftime of the AFC Championship game - but when exactly is that? Here's the full Halo TV series trailer release time for the Paramount show's big new reveal.

The AFC Championship game that the trailer will launch with begins at 12:05 PST / 3:05 PM EST / 8:05 PM GMT and the big series reveal is set to drop during the halftime point - therefore, the Halo TV show trailer should have a release time of around 1:15 PM PST / 4:15 PM EST / 9:15 GMT. Halftime is a little difficult to pin down exactly but it will be around this time, give or take a few minutes.

Regardless, for anyone outside the US or who doesn't want to watch the game, the trailer should be available online fairly immediately on either the Paramount Plus YouTube channel or the official Halo TV series Twitter feed.

Me, in 2000: ah, so shaders can make textures in Quake 3 look glowy or wibbly. Me, in 2016: oh, okay, so shaders can also be used to create shoals of fish in Abzu. Me, right now: wait, so shaders can also be used to tell the story of a planet over four and a half billions years, from a lump of molten rock to the formation of mountains, rivers, and human cities.

Humanity, an in-browser shader created by David A. Roberts, is worth the four minutes it takes to watch.

Microsoft are making their auto-renewing subscriptions more flexible under pressure from the CMA, the UK's Competition And Markets Authority. The regulator's investigation began in 2019 and ended this past week, with the CMA saying they had "secured undertakings" that impact Xbox Live and Xbox Game Pass. The changes include Microsoft refunding and even cancelling subscriptions in cases where customers "haven't used their memberships for a long time."

gundam n-extreme

Gundam Ace magazine will start a new manga series, Mobile Suit Gundam: N-Extreme, beginning with the February 2022 issue. This manga is based on the Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. 2 XBoost arcade game and is part of Project N-Extreme. Takashi Minakuchi will work on the manga. [Thanks, ANN!]

[gallery columns="1" ids="914506" link="file"]

News is scarce on what Mobile Suit Gundam: N-Extreme is about or who the main characters will be. Takashi Minakuchi usually collaborates with an author for manga, providing the illustrations while the author pens the story. He drew for Mamare Touno's Houkago no Trattoria and Shin Araki's Hero Classroom.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Extreme Vs. 2 XBoost launched in Japan in March 2021 and is part of the 10th anniversary of the Extreme vs. series. The game features units from Mobile Suit Gundam to Gundam Build Divers, with over 200 units available. You can play the game in arcade centers in Japan, and there is no official English version in the works.

Aside from a new manga series, Sunrise will have a new Mobile Suit Gundam anime as well. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury will start airing in October 2022 in Japan. There is no news as to whether any English streaming services will simulcast, or if the show will have a localization.

Mobile Suit Gundam: N-Extreme will start serialization in the February 2022 issue of Gundam Ace magazine.

genshin impact hu tao desktop

miHoYo's N0va Desktop has yet another Genshin Impact live wallpaper, with Hu Tao as the focus character this time. To use it, you will need to first download the N0va application. The wallpaper is available on both Windows PC and Android tablet devices.

In this wallpaper, which has the title "Lingering Aroma of the Solitary Butterfly," Hu Tao stands at the edge of a pool with a fishing rod in her hand. Like other N0va Desktop wallpapers, everything moves, with lots of different angles and shots of the surrounding Liyue background. There is a brief Qiqi cameo as the two run across the bridge, as well as a scene of Hu Tao and Qiqi peacefully sitting next to each other.

For those who prefer not to have music playing in the background, you can adjust the volume in the UI. Other Genshin Impact live wallpapers from N0va Desktop include characters like Keqing, Tartaglia, and Diluc. There are also live and static wallpapers for other miHoYo games such as Honkai Impact 3rd and Tears of Themis.

Hu Tao debuted as a 5-star Pyro polearm user in early 2021, and she came back in Version 2.2 on a re-run banner. While she is not available to pull for in Genshin Impact at the time of writing, she does make an appearance in the Lantern Rite 2022 event story.

Genshin Impact is readily available on Windows PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. The Lantern Rite 2022 festival, which has the Ganyu and Zhongli re-run banners, will run until February 12, 2022.

Hisuian Voltorb Pokemon GO

The Hisuian Voltorb will appear in Pokemon GO starting January 30, 2022. This is the first time the Hisuian form of a Pokemon has appeared in the game, following the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The Hisuian Voltorb will begin spawning after the end of the Team GO Rocket Power Plant event. There is no confirmed end date. [Thanks, Serebii!]

The Hisuian form will spawn alongside the normal version of Voltorb. As in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the Hisuian form will be both an Electric and Grass type. However, players will not be able to evolve it into an Electrode. There is no indication of whether or not it will be able to evolve at a later date. Its appearance comes alongside a new Special Research task that lets players encounter the Hisuian Voltorb and catch it.

Earlier this week, Niantic added costumes for player avatars based on the protagonist's clothing in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, available to all players. Though the Hisuian Voltorb is currently the only Pokemon from Arceus to appear in Pokemon GO, Niantic has also added dozens of Pokemon from other recent titles such as Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Pokemon GO is immediately available on iOS and Android devices. The Hisuian Voltorb will start spawning in the game on January 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. local time.
