Want to spawn and defeat a Minecraft Wither? Sounds a bit cruel, doesn't it? Bring something into existence just to snuff its life right back out again. Well, that's exactly what you'll do with the Wither - but then none of us would be here if we looked too deeply into the wrongs and rights of some video game mechanics.

One of the most powerful Minecraft mobs, the Wither is a floating, three-headed mythical monster, and defeating one is the only way of obtaining a nether star. This rare resource is vital in crafting a beacon in Minecraft, which itself provides a range of boosts, so if you're digging a big hole, crafting something spectacular, or building your own Minecraft maps, then you'll probably want one. Year in, year out, games - via Steam and otherwise - are produced in such varying degrees of quality that not a single one of them is destined for certain success.      What is the Hogwarts Legacy House Cup?

Want to know if you can win the Hogwarts Legacy House Cup, or whether it's even in the game? If you're familiar with the Harry Potter universe, teachers blurt out "ten points to Gryffindor" at every opportunity. These proclamations serve a purpose in the books and films: every point gets a student's house ever closer to sealing victory and earning the House Cup.

Students at Hogwarts earn points for many reasons, whether by learning Hogwarts Legacy spells quickly in classes or by feats of bravery or cunning. Winning the House Cup is a badge of honour for all students in one of the possible best PC games of the year, so no matter which house the Hogwarts Legacy sorting hat dumps you in, there would theoretically be a chance for you to get a share of the glory. If you help win it in your first year by completing tasks in the open-world game, then all the better.

How to find the Dead Space report on the Bridge

The Dead Space report on the Bridge is an objective that can be easy to overlook in the dark and dingy corners of the Ishimura. Side missions are one of the biggest changes in the Dead Space remake, allowing players to diverge from Isaac Clarke's story in order to delve into the hidden machinations of the Ishimura's personnel shortly before they succumbed to the necromorph infestation.

Aside from added flavour, side missions also provide you with a range of benefits, including raising your Dead Space security clearance level to maximum via the Master Override.      Warzone 2 season 2 release date

When will Warzone 2 season 2 release date be? It's safe to say that after a middling mid-season update, Warzone 2 is in desperate need of an injection of content. Warzone 2 season 1 marked the beginning of the game cycle, and with that came new guns, operators, and of course, the new map, Al Mazrah.

With season 2 having been pushed back by two weeks, we already have a good idea of what is arriving with Warzone 2 Season 2. The marquee inclusion with this update is the return of the resurgence game mode, and a new map, Ashika Island. With Rebirth island being one of the most popular playlists on the free PC game last time around, it will hopefully see players flock back to the battle royale game after potentially becoming jaded by the changes made on Warzone 2s initial release.

Despite its somewhat off-putting name, the Minecraft sniffer went ahead and stole an overwhelming victory in the 2022 Minecraft Live mob vote. Over 50% of us (myself included) voted for the ancient mob, leaving Mojang Studios to bring it back to life sometime in 2023. No doubt part of the reason the sniffer won by a landslide is the new plant mechanics that are set to come with it.

The best open-world games on PC 2023

Looking for the best open-world games on PC? From the early days of gaming, with Ultima and Lords of Midnight, open-world games have always been right at home on PC - indeed, those pesky consoles often couldn't handle it. Compare the ambitious early version of Halo to the final, more confined result, for example - and only the PC could hold sprawling regions in the very first Elder Scrolls games. Nevertheless, the leap into full 3D with Grand Theft Auto 3 and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind really brought the idea of open-world gaming to the masses.

These days, open-world games are their own genre. You can find accurate depictions of real-life cities or countries, huge fictional expanses with their own landmarks, complete worlds to check out - or even entire galaxies, depending on where you want to go on your next adventure. Not only are these the best open world games, but a lot of them show up in our best PC games list, too.

I'm running out of pictures to use when I write about Jigsaw Puzzle Dreams because I've only completed two puzzles in it. I've been doing the third one for about a year, because it's, I think, six thousand pieces. I say "i think" because it's been long enough that I can't remember if I told the game to generate it as five or six thousand. But it's a lot of thousand.

I really like jigsaws (I am in the middle of doing a real life one that is a big copy of the London Underground map) but, even though I have one of those special mats to do puzzles on so you can fold them away, they're quite inconvenient. At the same time, though, there are very few digi-jigsaws that capture the kind of tactile experience of sifting and sorting through pieces. Jigsaw Puzzle Dreams really does, though.

Revisiting Minecraft to discuss whether it deserved the GOTY award back in 2010 is a hard task, in the same way that discussing the importance of sliced bread is hard. It's so significant that, when ranking the significance of other similar things, we all forget it until someone goes "wait wot about Minecraft" and then everyone unleashes a collective "oooo yeahhh", guaranteeing it the top spot. To echo AliceB's sentiments upon revisiting Portal, it's fuckin' Minecraft.

In fact, I think I could take her Portal revisited intro, replace every instance of "Portal" with "Minecraft", and call it a day. It's Minecraft! Of course it was game of the year. It was arguably the game of the decade, an absolute all timer. I won't spend many words explaining why it is good, because those words would be redundant fodder, like the bloke fighting a soaring dragon by poking the ground under his feet with a sword. I'll give it a fair go so that Alice can't say I didn't try, and swiftly move on to reading all of your (hopefully) lovely comments about why you also like Minecraft. On top of being a vampire-filled hellscape, Redfall will also require an always-online connection, even when playing the game in single-player without buddies. This comes courtesy of a Bethesda FAQ page that states a "persistent connection is required" for co-op and single-player, and that a Bethesda.net account is also necessary to play the game. Many co-op and multiplayer games have required a persistent connection as of late, but it's disappointing in Redfall's case since the game is playable alone.

I loved Obsidian's medieval mystery Pentiment when it released last November, and part of my admiration was for its incredible art style. It was like the dev team had nicked a bunch of 16th-century manuscripts, scanned the delicate pages, and then fully animated them to life.

Pentiment was clearly made by a team who had a deep love for the time period, and the same can be said for Inkulinati, a 2D turn-based strategy game that also uses illuminated medieval drawings. But Yaza Games have taken a bit of a different direction with Inkulinati's vibe by adding a whole heap of cheeky humour. You wouldn't think it would suit the stuffy nature of religious manuscripts, but actually those monks were pretty cheeky blokes, and Inkulinati's humour is done in a way that stays completely loyal to the source material, fart jokes and all.

Our first port of call? theHunter: Call Of The Wild.

In our first sessions with the game, we both concluded that A) deer are incredibly athletic; and B) we're the most impatient people, perhaps ever. More than that, though, we hadn't realised how important it was to fixate on your prey. Not like, track them down. But like, track them down, you know?

Jett: The Far Shore was, like the jagged colossi that roamed its lavender skies, an odd beast. When it emerged on the Epic Game Store in the autumn of 2021, you could see the conflict roiling in its belly - between the linear science fiction short story on the surface, and the freeroaming "Metroid snowboarding game" fighting to get out from underneath it.

"Once the story finished, I hoped an endgame would open up and allow me to play freely in its world," I wrote in our Jett review. "That I'd have more opportunities to watch great Ghoke, the red sun, rise in real time, and to ponder the Far Shore's fascinating mysteries at length. Instead, I could only replay previous chapters. If only Jett had embraced a rhythm as organic as its inspired ecosystem."

When the Jett team read that review, they didn't disagree. "You put your finger on it more accurately than anybody else, which was, 'It really feels like this is building up to some sort of systemic-focused, open world endgame,'" says Superbrothers founder Craig Adams. "And internally we were like, 'Yeah, it is.'" What they knew, and I didn't, was that The Far Shore was just the first part of a two-campaign story. That journey has now been completed with the launch of Given Time, a bonus 12-hour adventure that coincides with Jett's long-awaited Steam release.

For February 2023, people can choose between FFVII and FFVII Remake calendar images starring Cloud.

First, here is how the classic version of the FFVII February 2023 Cloud calendar looks. It features him in front of the Mako Reactor with the Buster Sword on his back.
[gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="949244,949245" link="file"]

Next, here are the FFVII Remake versions of that features Cloud in that same position.
[gallery columns="2" size="full" ids="949246,949247" link="file"]

Both of the calendars call out February 7th. That is Aerith Gainsborough's birthday.

While these calendar releases tend to only involve the remake, others can come up. For example, the December 2022 one was Crisis Core: FFVII Reunion themed. That one starred Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is available on the PS4, PS5, and PC. FFVII Rebirth, its sequel, will continue the story on the PS5 in 2023. However, there's no exact release date for it yet. People will also get to re-experience certain storylines from past games in FFVII Ever Crisis, which will enter the beta phase in Summer 2023.

Bayonetta 3 Demon Masquerade Video Shows Madama Butterfly, Gomorrah

People can get a better look at the character concept art, designs, and models used for the various Bayonetta 3 Demon Masquerade designs for characters like Madama Butterfly and Gomorrah in a new PlatinumGames video. The latest Umbran Studies installment featured Director Yusuke Miyata introducing the works. As Bayonetta goes through the game, she'll encounter certain demons. She can then team up and essentially fuse with them to use their abilities and unleash special attacks.

Here's the Bayonetta 3 Demon Masquerade "Umbran Studies — Character Design Vol. 4" video. Turning on closed captioning adds English subtitles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sDaDZAq9v0&ab_channel=PlatinumGamesOfficial

If there's a specific Bayonetta 3 Demon Masquerade design you'd like to see, like Madama Butterfly or Gomorrah, here's the full list of which demons appear and when. Keep in mind that not every one showed up in the showcase.

This isn't the first time a demon was the focus of one of these Bayonetta 3 videos. In January 2023, another entry offered a closer look at Cheshire. That is the character that fights alongside Viola and will appear in the upcoming prequel Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

Bayonetta 3 is available for the Nintendo Switch. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon will come to the Switch on March 17, 2023.

Poison Ivy figure

The roster of pricey pop culture statues continues to grow. A new Poison Ivy figure will run Batman superfans almost $1,400 to own. It's manufactured by Prime 1 Studio as part of its Museum Masterline series. [Thanks, Dengeki Hobby!]

Formally called the Poison Ivy Batman: Hush (Skin Color Version), the new Poison Ivy figure depicts the iconic Batman villain as she appears in the 2002 "Hush" storyline. There is one difference, however. This version shows Ivy with a natural skin tone. A second Prime 1 Batman: Hush figure shows Ivy with a more "canon-friendly" light green skin tone.

[gallery columns="4" size="medium" ids="949207,949208,949209,949210" orderby="rand" link="file"]

The Museum Masterline Poison Ivy figure is designed at 1/3rd scale and stands at 78.4cm tall (about 30 inches). The design shows Ivy sitting on one of her mutated vines. It costs about $1,349 on Prime 1 Studio's site, but its Japanese retail price is 193,490 Yen (about $1,490).

Batman: Hush ran in Batman issues #608 to #619 from 2002 to 2003. It was written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair. The story followed Batman as he fought to unravel a grand conspiracy against him. Those involved included Batman's enemies like Killer Croc, the Joker, the Riddler, with the plan masterminded by a new villain: A bandaged man called "Hush." In the story, Poison Ivy uses her pheremone-based mind-control powers to manipulate Catwoman and even Superman into acting against Batman. Batman: Hush was later adapted into an animated film in 2019.

The Batman: Hush Poison Ivy figure is available for pre-order. Prime 1 Studio also produced NieR Automata 2B figure.

Crown Zenith Is the Last Pokemon Trading Card Game Online Expansion

The end of an era is about to arrive for one of the Pokemon games. The Pokemon Company International announced that the Crown Zenith expansion will be the last set of cards added to Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. As the game's time is drawing to a close and it is being replaced by Pokemon Trading Card Game Live, no further sets will be added. March 1, 2023 is the cut-off date, though supported cards and codes ahead of that date can be redeemed in the game until it is officially shut down.

The official announcement offered an additional explanation for the lack of expansions past Crown Zenith in Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. Development is being halted in order to offer additional support to the new game. This also means the Pokemon TCG Championship Series 2023 season, though the developers will keep up with bug fixes until the game is shuttered. The last collections and cards that will will be added are the Crown Zenith Kleavor VStar Special Collection, Lucario VStar Special Collection, and Pikachu VMax.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Online is available on PCs and mobile devices, though it will be shut down ahead of Pokemon TCG Live. There's no release date for Pokemon TCG Live yet, but the open beta is available on PCs and mobile devices. People can migrate their accounts from Online to Live. Once you make that jump, however, you can not return to playing Online with your account.

Cinnamoroll Is Back at Build-a-Bear

The latest Build-a-Bear crossover involves another Sanrio icon. However, it isn't Hello Kitty or one of the other, older members of the family. Rather, now people can pick up a Cinnamoroll plush at Build-a-Bear. The US and UK sites both list the character. On both sites, it is set as an online exclusive. It is £24/$32. In the US, there is also a Sleeper Gift Set for $45.50.

This Cinnamoroll plush features the character standing up. It has the same trademark long ears, blue eyes, and pink cheeks. Cinnamoroll is embroidered on his left foot. There's also a Build-a-Bear patch on his right paw. The $45.50 set includes a $13.50 pair of Cinnamoroll pajamas for him to wear.

Here's a closer look at the stuffed animal, both with and without the optional sleeper outfit.
[gallery size="full" ids="949262,949263,949265" link="file"]

Cinnamoroll isn't the first Sanrio plush character to show up at Build-a-Bear. In the past, Hello Kitty's shown up at the store. There's no current Hello Kitty available there yet. However, there is a sign-up page for people to provide an email and be notified when she appears there again.

The Cinnamoroll plush is available at Build-a-Bear alone or in a gift set now. Another recent addition is the Pokemon collection's Sylveon plush.

Finally, following a reveal in November 2020, there's a Tomb Raider Reloaded release date. The roguelike game will appear on mobile devices on February 14, 2023. That also happens to be Lara Croft's birthday. In addition to it being on the App Store and Google Play storefronts with ads and in-app purchases, it will also be available to people with Netflix subscriptions. Netflix users won't see ads or additional purchases.

To go along with the Tomb Raider Reloaded release date announcement, there's also a new trailer. It begins by showing some cinematic segments. However, at the 27 second mark it shows what gameplay will look like. This will be a top-down adventure, with players helping Lara safely traverse levels while fighting any enemies in her way. While she doesn't speak in the trailer, Keeley Hawes will play the character. In the past, Hawes played the role in games like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light and Tomb Raider: Underworld.

The trailer doesn't show any of the customization elements. As people play, you can get new weapons, perks, runes, and permanent upgrades. There will also be different cosmetic outfits for her to wear.

Originally, the game had a 2021 release window. However in 2021, it got bumped back to 2022.

The Tomb Raider Reloaded release date is February 14, 2023, and it will be available on mobile devices and with a Netflix subscription.

Artist and Atelier Ryza Character Designer Toridamono previewed a pair of new figures based on the series. The new Ryza Cheongsam figure shows series protagonist Reisalin "Ryza" Stout and her best friend Klaudia Valentz dressed in stylized cheongsam. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

According to Toridamono's post, the figures pictured are prototypes created by Phat! Company, a figure studio. Based on Toridamono's designs for Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy, the Ryza cheongsam figure incorporates a version of the iconic garment (also known as a qipao or simply "China dress"). Beside Ryza, another cheongsam figure is based on Klaudia Valentz, Ryza's companion and party member.

[gallery size="medium" ids="949201,949202,949203" link="file"]

The pair wear contrasting dresses, with Ryza dressed in black and Klaudia dressed in white. The figures also feature alternative hairstyles, focusing on hair buns and Chinese-style ornaments.

In the preview, Toridamono praised the "fresh look" of the figures. They also noted that the Ryza figure is sold separately from the Klaudia one. However, buyers of both figures can pose them together with their fingers intertwined, as shown in the photos.

Klaudia Valentz is a party member and major character in the Atelier Ryza series. She's appeared in both existing games, and will be present in Atelier Ryza 3: Alchemist of the End & The Secret Key. Daughter of a wealthy merchant, Klaudia is a kind and refined society girl. She secretly practices the flute, hiding her efforts from her father. She befriends Ryza in the first game, and even stars in a DLC episode called "Atelier Klaudia."

The Atelier Ryza cheongsam figures are in development, but do not yet have a price or release window. The next game in the series launches on March 23, 2023 in Japan and March 24, 2023 globally for the PS4, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

February 2023 Genshin Impact Calendar Stars Alhaitham

As usual, a new month means a new Genshin Impact calendar, and the February 2023 one stars new character Alhaitham. The Japanese Twitter account released the latest image for people to use for the month. The image is designed to fit as a wallpaper on mobile devices. Also, as usual, it keeps track of Genshin Impact characters' birthdays for the month.

First, here's how the new Genshin Impact February 2023 calendar looks.
[gallery columns="1" size="full" ids="949238" link="file"]

As for birthdays, these are the days you'll want to stop into Genshin Impact to get "gifts" from characters. Note that as his birthday is now the first to appear this month, it meant Alhaitham got picked as the character for the month.

  • February 11th: Alhaitham
  • February 14th: Beidou
  • February 22nd: Kokomi

In February 2022, Beidou was the featured character.

This is the second month in a row with a "new" Genshin Impact character as the featured one. The January 2023 calendar starred Scaramouche, aka The Wanderer. His was the first birthday to come up that month.

People can pick up Alhaitham in Genshin Impact right now. His banner and Xiao's rerun banner are live until February 7, 2023. After that, Hu Tao and Yelan rerun banners will appear.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary

Nexon kicked off the Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary celebration for the English-language edition of the game. Players will join their Students once again at the beach, in a follow-up to January's "Abydos Resort Restoration Task Force" event. This one, called "Biz Trip! Momoyodou Beach Shack Franchise Plan", will continue and conclude the storyline established previously. The event adds four new playable characters, one of which is available for free. The celebration also includes goodies for players, including up to 100 free rolls on the featured banner.

Check out a preview trailer for the Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary event Biz Trip! Momoyodou Beach Shack Franchise Plan below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHn6wPJW3Zg

Like the previous event, the Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary event is summer-themed. It involves the Students of the Allied Hyakkiyako Academy and Abydos High School. The members of the Hyakkiyako Festival Operations Department have opened up a beach hut business at the Lost Paradise resort archipelago, only to be ensnared in the "Resort Hunt" scheme that trapped the Abydos girls. Now they find themselves in all-out war over the archipelago with several other factions of similarly-scammed Students. The winner will gain possession of the entire archipelago to run as they see fit. The event introduces a new gameplay mode called Conquest, in which players can progressively attack and claim territory. Claimed territories can then be farmed for resources needed to buy up goodies and unlock new hunting grounds.

Four new summer-themed Students will join the roster. Players will gain the assistance of Shizuko (Swimsuit) upon clearing the first stage of the event. Those with Pyroxene gems to spare can roll the gacha for Hoshino (Swimsuit), who upon her debut in the Japanese version was hailed as one of the most powerful support students in the game. Hoshino's banner will also have a doubled drop rate for 3-star characters (from 3% to 6%), making it a good opportunity to obtain higher-rarity Students. The latter half of the Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary celebration will bring banners for Chise (Swimsuit) and Izuna (Swimsuit). They'll also bring a login campaign that will award players with 10 free rolls per day, up to a total of 100 rolls.

The Blue Archive 1.5 Anniversary Event will run until February 13, 2023. The game is available on iOS and Android devices.

Fate Samurai Remnant PC

Koei Tecmo's upcoming Fate franchise game now has a store presence. A product page for Fate/Samurai Remnant on PC has gone live via the Steam marketplace. Early last week, a page went up for the game on the PlayStation Network Store, though it's just a placeholder without much information. [Thanks, KaroshiMyriad!]

The Steam store page for Fate/Samurai Remnant on PC is similarly anemic. Its minimum and recommended system requirements are currently blank, and its release window is still limited to 2023. Notably, it does reveal the expected language support for the game. It'll be available in English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Korean. However, the voice dub for the game will be exclusively Japanese.

Check out the teaser trailer, which debuted on December 31, 2022, during Type-Moon's yearly New Year's Eve broadcast.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PazfxkDW3RU

Fate/Samurai Remnant is a new action-RPG spin-off, set during the Edo period of Japanese history. It seems to involve a "new Holy Grail War" and a "Waxing Moon Ritual". The protagonist appears to become a Master in a Holy Grail War, inadvertently summoning a Servant, whose identity is unconfirmed.

Later on, the protagonist encounters the female version of Musashi Miyamoto, who first appeared in Fate/Grand Order. Unlike other FGO manifestations of historical figures, the FGO version of Musashi Miyamoto is from an alternate dimension herself. Throughout her appearances in FGO she's seen wandering through different alternative histories searching for her "home" timeline. It's unknown if Fate/Samurai Remnant involves this version of the character or will surface another interpretation.

Fate/Samurai Remnant is set for release in 2023 on the PS4, PS5, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch.

Junji Ito Fortnite

The horror of Junji Ito is coming to the Island. Creative outfit Neighbor Metaverse Studios put together a Junji Ito Fortnite virtual attraction for Netflix. The streaming giant is using it to promote its Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre anime series.      Best Multiplayer – Marvel Snap Diego: The only thing I hate more than building decks in card games is playing against sweaty players.
