Nintendo led another 40-minute Direct on September 14, and there were tons of Mario games and some surprising announcements. There was, sadly, no Switch 2, or the Tomodachi Life Switch port some passionate people on Change.org have been hoping and dreaming about, but it's OK. You can hope and dream in your sleep.

DBD self unhook changes might let you off the hook in phase two

It's not easy being a survivor in Dead by Daylight. Sometimes you're dodging hatchets, other times you're having vials of toxic gas lobbed at you by a huge clown - you never really catch a break in the horror game, do you? Add face-camping into the mix and the whole thing gets even messier - but, as we know, the DBD dev team is hard at work devising a counter, and new details imply that it just might be a second-phase chance to unhook.

What are the Starfield creatures? One of the more terrifying prospects of landing on a Starfield planet is the fear of running into the unknown. We can handle space pirates and mercenaries just fine, but the idea of being tracked down by a bloodthirsty beast roaming on a desolate planet sounds like a nightmare.

From the gameplay we've seen so far, many of the creatures in Starfield appear peaceful. If you aren't actively provoking them, they should leave you alone. With the right set of Starfield skills, you can use any lurking creatures to attack hostile enemies, allowing you to avoid any combat. .      Burnout, Ridge Racer, and Outrun live on in '90s racing game from Epic

Ridge Racer is the one that sticks in my mind. Fast, fluid, and leaping off the screen with primary colors and raw energy, back in 1995 (I played the late-arriving PlayStation port) it felt unlike anything I'd seen before. Burnout came later. In the wake of Gran Turismo, which brought an incredible and more serious depth to the racing game, Burnout felt like the revival of Outrun - you just put the pedal down, take in the music and the atmosphere, and try not to crash. I miss the simplicity, the vibrancy, and the high-speed joy of '90s racing sims. So it's a good job Horizon Chase 2, one of the best racers of the past five years and homage to the genre's greatest age, is finally on PC via Epic Games.

Mortal Kombat 1 Fatalities – how to unlock and perform

How do you unlock and perform Mortal Kombat 1 fatalities? In a rather annoying move, each character only has access to one of their fatalities by default. To get the rest of the MK1 fatalities, you'll need to go through one of the many game modes to unlock them, and then you need to equip them in the customize mode.

So yes, if you want to perform the most disgusting finishing moves in Mortal Kombat 1, you'll first need to explore the fighting game's Invasions Mode and achieve certain missions. When you're done with that, you'll equip them via the Mortal Kombat 1 gear system, of which you can equip up to four of them. If you're looking for all the Mortal Kombat 1 Brutalities, they're on a separate list, as there are so many of them to find. Who is VASCO in Starfield? Don't let his utilitarian facade and genial conversation fool you; this Lunar Robotics creation is your go-to companion when it comes to exploration. It's no secret that VASCO's our favorite here at PCGamesN, but if you're still on the fence, we've collated all his primary skills and attributes into one handy guide, to help you decide if you should keep him around for the long haul.

A human companion is all well and good, but sometimes you might want to keep a well-oiled machine by your side as you explore everything Starfield has to offer. It's currently unclear where VASCO's construction appears on the official Starfield timeline, but his battered chassis certainly suggests he's been in active service for several decades. Is Mortal Kombat 1 Steam Deck compatible? Playing Mortal Kombat 1 on the Steam Deck shouldn't be a brutal experience, but the latest entry to the iconic fighting game franchise by NetherRealm Studios hasn't yet been rated by Valve.      DBD ranks explained – All Dead by Daylight grades

How does Dead by Daylight ranking work? Ranks in Dead by Daylight were replaced some time ago by a Grading system. These DBD grades have no bearing on your matchmaking rating (MMR) and are simply a way to keep track of your own progress. Your DBD rank is shown by a colored icon in the top right hand corner of your in-game screen, but might not mean much to you from the icon alone.

If you're wondering what the point is, well, we can't blame you. That said, there is a hefty Bloodpoint reward during each Dead by Daylight grade reset depending on which level you reach. Of course, there are often other ways to get extra BP, too, including with DBD codes and Prime Gaming, so you always have a plenty to hand to level up your DBD killers and survivors. If you still want to know more about your DBD rank, the grading reset, and what the rewards are, then read on.

The best platform games on PC 2023

What are the best platform games on PC? Back in the '90s and early '00s, there were countless platformers for console gamers, while the PC had a reputation as a sort of wasteland for this one particular genre. Thankfully, this stigma has lessened since the days of Commander Keen, and we owe that in large part to the explosion of indies that have flooded onto digital platforms over the past decade, meaning our fair platform is now bursting at the seams with solid platform games.

The best platform games have garnered a reputation as requiring mechanical mastery and sublime timing to get into, but developers continue to push the genre forward by introducing gameplay elements from puzzle games and metroidvanias. Platforming can also be a staple mechanic in some of the best story games, as demonstrated in releases like Celeste and Ori and the Blind Forest. Here are the best platform games you can play on your PC right now, which can also extend to the best indie games around.

There comes a point in every diary playthrough when the Comet of Invention meets the Cowpat of Diminishing Returns, when the Foot of Unbridled Agency meets the Covert Hedgehog of Limited Design, when Fucking Around meets Finding Not Much Out. I fear we are reaching that point with the life and times of Mary Read, my Starfield character and nowadays quite accomplished space pirate, who has sworn never to land on a planet ever again.

Immediately after conquering the Chimera in Part 2 of the Starfield No-Planet Run, I commandeered a UC Longsword II on the other side of the same system. The Longsword has proven a predator without equal, charging straight through opposing craft even when they've got several levels on me, its unforgiving autocannons forming the dominant bassline of every encounter. Frankly, it's getting repetitive, and while the obvious remedy is to plunge cackling and crying into a star system with an AI threat level in the high double digits, I doubt that will really alter the rhythms of Starfield's ship combat - it'll just mean I have to do some grinding.

Longtime readers will know that I really appreciate a good kick in a vide-oh my god I've been working here that long. Anyway, I like a kick, and I like a game that manages to actually be funny, and I have been playing Deathbulge: Battle Of The Bands. You do the math(s).

I actually wrote about Deathbulge in a round up of best demos in a Steam Next Fest back in 2020, at which time I enjoyed the RPG antics of a band entering a cursed Battle Of The Bands competition and finding out that it's a fight to the death. The full thing came out a month ago without my noticing, and got past the endpoint of the demo. It's fun! I'm enjoying the combat, which is both real-time and turn-based, and has some surprisingly deep tactics attached to it. But more importantly, the full Deathbulge game starts in a town where you enter houses by kicking doors in.

When the Lenovo Legion Go revealed itself, I was unconvinced by its portability credentials but enticed by the wireless mouse transmogrification of its detachable, Nintendo Switch-like controllers. A sparkling sliver of Swiss Army handheld design, providing a familiar taste of desktop play that the Steam Deck or Asus ROG Ally could never achieve without a USB dock.

Turns out, now that I've tried the Legion Go for myself, I was worried about the wrong thing. It's nowhere near as heavy or cumbersome as it looks, and while the breakaway controls remain an exciting prospect, they also risk introducing an acute pain point. At the very least, the model I tested proved highly vulnerable to lead-handed RPS hardware editors, because I left the building very much with the impression that I'd broken it.

As gaming at large gorges itself on a feast of fantastic titles, PCVR crawls beneath the table licking up the crumbs. There are tasty treats simmering in the kitchen, like the remake of The 7th Guest and sequels to I Expect You To Die and Arizona Sunshine, but right now all the fine dining is happening on Quest and PSVR2, covering which would involve running my thumb under RPS' hermetic PC seal.

In my desperation, I've turned to golf, something I would never consider under normal circumstances. I feel about golf the same way I feel about the UK Conservative party, insofar as both occupy space that would be better filled with trees. But I haven't gone totally tartan slacks. We're only entering the realm of minigolf, which I am more positively inclined toward. It lacks the pretensions and exclusionary nature of its bigger, paunchier cousin. Anybody can rock up to a minigolf course with a putter and nobody will sneer at you for being shit at it. It's also small and inherently naff, traits I can likewise relate to.

After a couple of days of furious game developer reactions, game engine company Unity have backtracked a teensy bit on their plan to charge developers who meet certain revenue and copies-sold thresholds a "runtime fee" for every installation of their game.

The company will only make developers pay extra for the first installation of a game on a new device - so no fees for reinstallations, in theory, and no prospect of spiteful players "install bombing" games to drive up costs for their creators. However, the company haven't stated how or indeed, if they can distinguish legitimate from illegitimate installations in advance, seemingly because their method for tracking installations is based on "estimates" using a proprietary data-gathering system, which they aren't able to discuss in depth.

Crayon Shin-chan: Sumi no Machi no Shiro coming to Switch in Winter 2023

The Japanese edition of September 2023 Nintendo Direct revealed a new Crayon Shin-chan game will be released on the Switch. The game will be known in Japanese as Crayon Shin-chan: Sumi no Machi no Shiro. We can translate the subtitle to Shiro of the Charcoal Town.

Shin-chan's pet dog Shiro will be the key character in this game, as it will lead its master to ride a mysterious train that stops in a steampunk-themed coal mine town. Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC

Nintendo revealed the first details about the Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC at the September 2023 Direct. Similar to Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion, the new expansion will feature new features not found in the original game. A release window of Spring 2024 was also confirmed.

https://twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/1702322612209356938

In the trailer, Side Order will star an Octoling (presumably Agent 8 from the Octo Expansion) set in a mysterious tower known as the Spire of Order. Inside is a desaturated world where you can take on challenges across a series of floors reached by an elevator. Completing challenges unlocks upgrades for your character as you progress. Nintendo has confirmed that the expansion is designed to be replayed, suggesting this may be a roguelike.

In the Side Order DLC, your character will be accompanied by a character named Acht. They appear to be one of the enemy Octolings from previous Splatoon campaigns, now turned good.

Side Order will be Wave 2 of the Splatoon 3 DLC, following the release of the Inkopolis expansion in Wave 1.

Splatoon 3 is out now for Nintendo Switch. The Side Order DLC expansion will be released in Spring 2024.
