Enormous new survival game has a demo that lasts 40 hours

In regular life, I'd like to think that being 33 means I'm still pretty young. But videogame culture ages like dogs - with so many new releases, seasons, updates, and constantly evolving technology, anything from five or six years ago may as well have come from the Bronze Age. Point being, I'm old and barnacled enough to remember when demos came on discs and lasted all of 20 minutes each, but now it's a brave new world. With Steam Next Fest right around the corner, a huge new survival game, with flashes of The Forest, Far Cry, Valheim, and maybe a little Ark or Assassin's Creed, has launched what is technically called a demo, but is basically the length of an entire game. Clocking in at 40 hours, if we're talking value for money, this is pretty unbeatable.

When is the Unrecord release date? Images of the bodycam game had viewers puzzled back when Unrecord was announced; the game looked too good to be true, and people were questioning whether the developer was creating some sort of FMV-style game like Her Story, but with guns.

Turns out, Unrecord is an FPS game, although you'd be forgiven for still being confused, even after watching the trailer. Unrecord tells the story of a police officer, solving crimes and having chats, both of which appear to devolve into discharging your firearm more often than not.      Asus ROG Ally takes fight to Steam Deck with frame generation update

Asus has shown it's still putting plenty of energy into supporting the Asus ROG Ally, with a handful of recent tweets detailing the latest and future features of its Asus ROG Ally updates. These include a new quick-access TDP slider in the most recent update, but Asus has also reassured ROG Ally owners that a future update will also include support for AMD Fluid Motion Frames (FMF), the frame-generation, frame rate-boosting technology that it announced recently.

For those not familiar with AMD FMF, it's a graphics technology similar to Nvidia's DLSS 3 and AMD's FSR 3 frame generation, creating an AI-enhanced estimation of new frames based on a combination of previous frames. This in effect creates a much smoother-feeling, higher frame rate without a huge amount of extra GPU power required to create the frames. Crucially, though, unlike DLSS 3 and FSR 3, FMF doesn't require the game to have the feature built into it, but can instead work with any game via the graphics driver.

Final Fantasy 6 is one of the most beloved Final Fantasy games in the series, so much so that even staff at Square Enix keep hassling series producer Yoshinori Kitase about when they're going to remake it and give it the full Final Fantasy 7 treatment. Alas, the prospect of such a project has had fresh water poured over it this weekend, with Kitase explaining that, given it's already taken them ten years to make Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (with a third entry to complete the trilogy yet to come), a Final Fantasy 6 remake would likely take twice as long as that to actually make. VR is at its best when it makes you feel like you're living in the actual future. Given how everything new and exciting ultimately becomes normal and mundane, this is perhaps an unfair expectation of technology that is now a decade old. Nonetheless, if you want me to sit with a shoebox pressed uncomfortably against my eyes for two hours like an ocular gom jabbar, then what's inside the shoebox better be pretty darned transformative.

Which is to say that LEGO Bricktales provided one of those moments. I was sat in my living room, with all its clutter visible through the Quest 3's coloured passthrough, and hovering above my table was a great big LEGO diorama of a jungle. All of it was rendered perfectly to scale, as if I could pick up the minifigs between my thumb and forefinger. Yet all of it was moving of its own accord, as if I'd somehow stumbled into a child's dream.

FFVII Rebirth Developers Discuss the Fate and Possible Death of Aerith

A new PlayStation Blog interview with the FFVII Rebirth Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura discussed the fate and death of Aerith in both the original Final Fantasy VII and remake. However, it also doesn't explain what will happen to her in this retelling.

When Kitase discussed what will happen with Aerith in the second part of the remake trilogy, he noted it is "one of the most important themes." In a following comment, he also said "it was essential to keep the majority of the elements from the original game." However, he also noted that the Whispers and other elements are designed to "shake up" events.

Here is Kitase's full statements in Sony's PlayStation Blog regarding what may happen to Aerith in FFVII Rebirth.

Aerith's fate is one of the most important themes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's story. I really want people to play the game and feel it directly, so I will not say too much here, but when comparing this scene to how it was presented in the original, I am confident that the audience will feel a great breadth of emotion from the extra level of detail in how the characters are portrayed.

…As there are many fans of the series, I felt it was essential to keep the majority of the elements from the original game. On the other hand, if we simply followed along, keeping the story unchanged, it would only appeal to people's nostalgia. We added the Whispers as a new element that could "shake up" the storyline and thus create a feeling of anticipation towards where things were going. I think that has already proved to be appealing to the fans.

As for Tetsuya Nomura's comments, he was very straightforward about how anything he said could provide a hint as to whether or not we will see the death of Aerith again in FFVII Rebirth. So instead of directly addressing it, he expressed his desire to see people play and respond to events.

Whatever I say will give people a hint about what is going to happen, so this is very difficult to answer. Really, I can only say that I want players to experience what waits for them at the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and feel it for themselves rather than getting that second-hand. Different people will respond to it differently, but I think that they will want to pursue that feeling, whatever it is, and set out on their next journey soon.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will come to the PS5 on February 29, 2024, with the exclusivity arrangement ending on May 29, 2024. FFVII Remake is available for the PS4, PS5, and PC, and FFVII Ever Crisis is available on the PC and mobile devices.

Suicide Squad Bug

Following a report by Video Game Chronicle, early access servers for the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League have been taken offline due to a bug that automatically completed the game the first time it was launched. Developer Rocksteady is performing maintenance and expects a delay of several hours before the game becomes available again. [Thanks, VGC!]

While the game is not set to launch until February 2, 2024, players who pre-ordered the deluxe edition would be able to enter a 72-hour early access period. Due to timezones and the launch schedule, New Zealand was the area this launched in first. However, players soon discovered that they had been awarded game completion status when they logged into it despite not having played before. The servers were taken offline soon afterwards.

You can find Rocksteady's official response below:

https://twitter.com/suicidesquadRS/status/1751938662093263232

A video of the game's Co-op gameplay surfaced back in early 2023, around the same time it featured at Sony's State of Play event. There is also an unrelated anime series titled Suicide Squad Isekai in production by WIT Studio, expected sometime in 2024.

Servers for the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League early access period are currently offline for maintenance following discovery of a major bug. The game is set to launch in full on February 2, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with a 72 hour early access period for deluxe edition owners.

Koei Tecmo confirmed that it will produce and release a Dead or Alive Xtreme Venus Vacation Marie Rose figure based on her "Steamy Venus" skin from Azur Lane. The figure will be part of the company's own figure brand KT model+.

Marie Rose was one of the characters included in the roster when Azur Lane had a crossover event with DOA Xtreme Venus Vacation in late 2020. Yostar later held a re-run of the collaboration in the iOS and Android mobile game between April 2023 and May 2023.

While the re-run event had the new additions of Tamaki and Luna as the main highlights, it also brought in "Steamy Venus" as a new optional purchasable skin for Marie Rose. This skin depicts the character in a hot spring with fully integrated Live2D animations and interactions when the player sets her as one of the home screen Secretaries.

Koei Tecmo's announcement tweet, which includes the image of the skin in question, is available right below via the official KT model+ social media account:

Koei Tecmo will reveal more details on the Marie Rose "Steamy Venus" Azur Lane DOA Xtreme Venus Vacation skin figure, including the release date, at a later date. The company will also promote the figure at AmiAmi's booth in Wonder Festival 2024 Winter on February 11, 2024.

Next New Genshin Impact Character Is Chiori

HoYoVerse started the 4.5 Genshin Impact drip marketing, with the next new character in the game revealed to be Chiori. While she runs the Chioriya Boutique in Fontaine, she is originally from Inazuma.

Chiori is a Geo character known as The Thundering Seamstress. Her splash art shows her wielding a sword, but it isn't confirmed if this will be her weapon in the game yet. The initial announcement also noted her Constellation is called Cisoria. However, it doesn't note if she will be a four-star or five-star unit.

Here's a closer look at the full-body art for the 4.5 new Genshin Impact character Chiori.

The two social media announcements also offered some insight into her personality. In one, the four-star Inazuma unit Kirara explained how Chiori does her hair for her when she buys an outfit. In the other post, she's described as being headstrong, insistent, and blunt, being set on pursuing her own passions and goals without interference or delay. In one of them, following an investigation and report into her background, she doesn't elaborate on the questions and instead asks if the interviewer is going to buy anything.

Genshin Impact is available for the PS4, PS5, PC, and mobile devices. The two new characters joining in 4.4 are Xianyun (Cloud Retainer) and Gaming.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom grosses over 1 billion yen

Sunrise announced that the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie grossed over 1 billion yen within the first three days of the film's release in Japan. A total of 634,182 people came to watch the movie in 353 theaters across the country from January 26, 2024, to January 28, 2024. The exact box office revenue recorded by the studio is 1,065,983,130 yen (~$7,204,050).

Sunrise has also published a new trailer to accompany the box office announcement. It features the new See-Saw song "Sarigiwa no Romantics." While the YouTube version is geo-restricted to Japan only, the trailer is readily watchable worldwide via X:

In its press release, Sunrise also noted that SEED Freedom has set a new hit record among the Gundam movies with its billion yen milestone. The previous major movie, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, launched in 2021. It had also grossed over 1 billion yen, but it took ten days to reach the milestone with 501,706 tickets sold. That means the Cosmic Era alternate universe title had surpassed the Universal Century entry in both time and amount of tickets.

Sunrise and Bandai have also been holding exhibitions and releasing merchandise to help promote the new movie. Sunrise has released crossover merchandise pairing Gundam SEED people with Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty. Meanwhile, Bandai Spirits has opened pre-orders for SH Figuarts action figures of Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is available to watch in movie theaters across Japan.

Fastest Mounts In Palworld Best Flying And Ground Ranked JetragonIn Palworld, Jetragon is an incredibly fast flying mount as well as one of the strongest Pals in the game. Those who seek one may consider trying to breed one to prevent having to hunt one down. Breeding Jetragon in Palworld For those wishing an easier time getting Jetragon in Palworld will be bitterly disappointed. The combination to breed one Jetragon is… two Jetragon parents. That's right, only they are capable of producing the insane Pal you seek. If you do already have two of these Dragon-type Pals, then you'll need a Breeding Pen to get them to work. It would be mighty surprising if you have two Jetragons and not a Breeding Pen, but to each their own. With a male and female Jetragon assigned to the Breeding Pen, you'll need to wait for them to get all lovey-dovey. In the meantime, you can work on making a Cake, which can be produced from any cooking station aside from the campfire. It requires: 5 Flour 8 Red be...

Palworld File Size And PreloadSometimes, there's a raid of Pals on your base you actually want a chance at catching. Good luck getting a sphere thrown out in time before all of your Pals kill them on sight. However, there is a way to prevent this — here's how to stop base Pals from auto-attacking in Palworld. How to set base pals to not auto-attack: Alarm Bell guide The solution is in an early-game item I overlooked because I didn't see the point in it. Now I understand when I have nine Pals ready to kill anything on sight working around my base. The Alarm Bell is unlocked early on. It's under the defense build category and costs five Paldium Fragments and 20 Stones to make. I recommend building and placing one where you can easily run to it. It'll need to be a quick reaction to toggle it on or off. Once it's placed down, all you have to do is press F when you're next to it. This will swap from "attack invaders" mode to "focus o...

What to do after the first boss in PalworldOne of Palworld's biggest strengths is how open-ended it is and how much freedom is given to the player. The issue is that after you've beaten the first boss, there's little direction on what to do next. If you're in this situation, let me show you what to do after the first boss in Palworld. What to do after beating the first tower in Palworld You're free to do whatever you wish after beating the first boss, but it's always good to work toward something. If you're looking for inspiration, here's what I recommend: Explore the map Screenshot: PC Invasion While arguably the least exciting suggestion on this list, I strongly recommend exploring the map and activating every Fast Travel location. As more crafting options open up, you'll thank your past self if you've done your due diligence, as you'll quickly have access to uncommon materials.  It's a good idea ...
