Sonic the Hedgehog has a momentum-based Steam rival you can try now

As PCGamesN's resident Sonic the Hedgehog fan, I'd had my eye on Rollin' Rascal. A high-speed 3D platformer based on momentum and bright, colorful landscapes to run through, just glancing at it will prove that it's inspired by Sega's mascot. Even with just one full level and an inventive multiplayer offering though, the Rollin' Rascal Steam Next Fest demo is one you should try for yourself.

Of course, any online-centric game encounters problems, such is the nature of relying on servers and having hundred of thousands of players at once. Developer Arrowhead is working on ironing on the kinks, but the team has warned a full solution might take a minute.

The Palworld concurrent Steam playercount has already dropped significantly after launch as Pocketpair's take on the survival game genre could be starting to find its player rhythm. The concurrent peak has seen over 1.3 million players begin to step away from the game, while the active player count still sits comfortably in the hundreds of thousands.

Baldur's Gate 3 mod lets you become a truly evil DnD Paladin

Roleplaying evil is fun. You get better abilities, cooler costumes, and a license to say whatever you want to whomever you want. Baldur's Gate 3 from Larian Studios has a pretty strong playthrough if you prefer being dark and menacing too, offering unique rewards and companions. A new mod allows you to step it up a notch from the Dark Urge though, bringing one of the most evil classes in the Forgotten Releams: the Paladin Blackguard.

Ultra fast Steam FPS now lets you play your own music, on sale for $5

I find myself revisiting Severed Steel a lot. It's an incredibly fast-paced and frenetic movement FPS that I've talked about a lot on PCGamesN, and the team at Greylock Studio keeps adding great updates. First, it was improved ragdoll physics, then dual-wielding weapons, and now you can add any music you want into the game while you play. I suddenly have the urge to play Toxic by Britney Spears while bouncing off walls and shooting guys in slow-mo. Oh, it's also 80% off on Steam to celebrate.

A couple of weeks ago, Hideo Kojima announced that he was returning to the action espionage genre with a new game, codenamed Physint.

In the latest episode of his YouTube series, HideoTube, Kojima says that returning to the same genre as Metal Gear was inspired by players asking for it "every day on social media", and by a brush with death he experienced in 2020.

Handyman Saitou in Another World 3 Artfully Blends 2 Stories

The Handyman Saitou in Another World manga does some interesting things narratively, and volume 3 is no different. This time, it involves Kazutomo Ichitomo artfully blending in two seemingly unrelated stories together.

As usual, one of the storylines involves our trusty party. We see Saitou, Raelza, Lafa, and Morlock leaving the Fortress of the Great Labyrinth after the revelations of the previous volume. After a heart to heart between Saitou and Raelza, it seems like it is back to business as usual. Except… after Saitou, Raelza, and Lafa go on another errand, they come back to find Morlock is dead from an Armored Serpent's Venom.

So on that side of the story, we have this new "questline" for them that deals with Morlock's death and potential revival. It features the sort of humor, heart, and team-building moments as we've seen in past chapters. It's generally a great read, while also offering insight into how revival and magic works in this other world.

However, the really interesting part of this volume is the story running alongside our usual Saitou and co. activities. It follows a Demon World hunting dog that meets a wolf from the Human World that somehow wandered into his realm.

Now, from the start this is fascinating. Handyman Saitou in Another World is a manga that hasn't been shy about showing different viewpoints, and at first I thought volume 3 was no exception. Ichitomo does a great job of defying expectations and humanizing characters we might otherwise see as villains or tropes. Eventually, certain characters may meet or those instances may provide extra insight. So I thought this was that.

And it is a great example of that too, as we see what life is like for the hunting dog and the wolf as he gets to know her and they interact. But this is also a good example of the mangaka playing with our expectations. I genuinely didn't see the reveal coming until Ichitomo flat out made it happen at page 102 of a 192 page book. Once it did happen, it changed the whole situation for me, and I loved it.

So again, I feel like volume 3 of the Handyman Saitou in Another World manga is yet another exceptional entry in a great series. It's dramatic and fun at the same time, and the characters and their connections are wonderful. I really appreciate what's happening with the series, and it's a delight to read.

Handyman Saitou in Another World volume 3 is available now from Yen Press, and volume 4 of the manga will appear on May 21, 2024. The anime is on Crunchyroll.
