Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, April 19, 2024 8:59 AM Stardew Valley gets yet another update, adding new mine layouts and ominous-sounding "fish frenzies"  It's starting to feel like ConcernedApe (aka Eric Barone) may in fact be a modern day Sisiphus, destined to work on Stardew Valley forever. Following on from the mega update of 1.6 a month ago, and 1.6.3 soon after that, the hardy perennial farming game has a new 1.6.4 mini update. The key addition this time is more new layouts that will appear after you reach the bottom of the mines, and more layouts for the volcano mines too. If you've not played Stardew Valley you might wonder why there are deep mines and volcanos, and to you I say "Pah! You should play Stardew Valley." 1.6.4 also has a lot of bug fixes (including fixing disappearing pets, new pets being a key feature of 1.6) and some balance changes, as well as a host of fixes for modders and modded players. ConcernedApe said early on that 1.6 would be an update for modders, so it's nice to see that being supported. You can read the full patch notes here. |

In fact, player reception to the recently released Beach Properties DLC has proven so un-sunny that both developers Colossal Order and publishers Paradox Interactive have issued a joint statement apologising for the state it launched in. The letter, addressed to Cities fans and signed by Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen and Paradox Interactive deputy CEO Mattias Lilja, also promises refunds for anyone who bought Beach Properties. Or, in the case of those who got it through snapping up Skylines 2's Ultimate Edition, compensation in the form of three Creator Packs and three radio stations. The contentious DLC is also going free to anyone who's yet to put money down. |

Final Fantasy XIV Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida announced that the FFXIV Dawntrail Benchmark tool's character creation system will get an update. This will more accurately represent how characters will look in the expansion with the 7.0 graphical update, though there's no date for when the replacement will appear.
When the FFXIV Dawntrail Benchmark appeared and people started using the character creation system to see or make their characters, reception was mixed. Yoshida noted that the system hadn't been updated, with light sources and environments affecting appearances of avatars created.
Yoshida also noted the following three elements will be fixed when the tool is replaced, making characters look better as a result. Here is an exact quote of what he says will be fixed.
"Lifeless" eyes due to a lack of highlights in the pupils.
Facial contours appearing flattened due to incorrect lighting conditions caused by backlighting.
A lack of gloss or excessive appearance of gloss due to character creation-exclusive weather conditions (i.e. the use of thunderclouds).
He also noted four other points that will be fixed, which will affect how the tool shows characters:
An issue with unimplemented high-resolution textures, including those for certain playable races.
An issue pertaining to special data processes.
An issue with necklines for playable races under certain circumstances.
An issue with uncorrected scaling for the mouth of certain playable races.
Final Fantasy XIV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, and the Dawntrail expansion will arrive on July 2, 2024. The FFXIV Dawntrail Benchmark tool is out now, but will be updated and replaced in the future.

A new line of Inuyasha merchandise items is now available at various 100-yen stores throughout Japan. The stores where the items will appear include Daiso, Seria, Can Do, Watts, Meets, Silk, and Flet's. [Thanks, Oricon!]
Depending on the store, items available might vary. Some of the items available as part of the new Inuyasha merchandise collection include clear file folders, multi folders, notepads, notebooks, sticky notes, stickers, masking tape, handerkchief towels, various acrylic stands, can badges, pens, and plush keychains, to name a few.
The characters featured in the merchandise items include Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippo and Kirara, Miroku, Sesshomaru and Rin, and Kikyo.
Since the new Inuyasha merchandise collection is appearing at 100-yen stores, the majority of items will cost 100 yen (~$0.65.) However, some item prices will differ for more expensive merchandise. You can check out the merchandise items with a different price tag here:

The Inuyasha anime series is available on streaming services like Crunchyroll or Netflix, and the manga is handled by Viz Media. Its sequel Yashahime is also available on streaming services, and Viz Media handles the manga release.

People who want to check out the Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link closed beta on Android will have to wait another week. At the same time, those who have iOS devices will be able to play the in-development game once again. Square Enix announced a revision for the closed beta test that includes the above changes via a thread on the mobile game's North American X account.
The company made changes to the upcoming closed beta test as it reflected on the feedback received from the prior iOS beta test, which ran from late November 2023 to early December 2023. One of the issues that users reported from that test pertained to the significant battery life drain.
Square Enix originally planned to run the Android closed beta test in January 2024. However, around the end of the month, it announced a delay to Spring 2024. The company has since scheduled the test to run from April 25, 2024, to May 2, 2024. With the new delay announcement, that schedule got pushed back a week to May 2-10, 2024. Square Enix will also run an additional beta test for iOS devices at the same time.
The Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link closed beta test will run on May 2-10, 2024. Square Enix will open registrations for the new iOS closed beta test on Monday, April 22, 2024. It will notify the selected players around Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
