The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is almost here, and if you haven't been gearing up for this day ahead of time, you're going to have to get moving quickly. PCGamesN Thursday, June 20, 2024 10:48 AM What are the Black Ops 6 maps? The multiplayer experience, especially in Call of Duty, hinges on a few key factors: the feel of the guns, the quality of the movement, and how good the maps are. The maps on offer with each CoD release can turn it from a dud to an instant classic, with several old-school maps finding their way into each release due to their popularity. We've been given a sneak peek at what's to come with the Black Ops 6 Direct showcase, and even though the Black Ops 6 release date is still a ways away, we've got a picture of what we can expect. PCGamesN Thursday, June 20, 2024 10:22 AM Unfortunately, not all games are destined for greatness. That didn't always matter. A studio could often afford to make a couple of bad games as long as it also put out a hit or two, but ballooning development times and the need to increase value for shareholders means one unsuccessful game can shut down a legendary studio. This was the case with Redfall, Arkane Austin's live service vampire co-op shooter. Development was halted, DLC canceled, and the studio closed. Fans who'd bought the Bite Back edition or season passes were left wondering if they'd wasted their money, but now it's being reported that players are receiving refunds. PCGamesN Thursday, June 20, 2024 9:27 AM The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super is currently going for the lowest price we've ever seen, with this latest graphics card deal on Newegg pricing the top-end GPU at just $949.99. That's a $50 drop on the usual MSRP, and it's a good $250 cheaper than the original (and slower) RTX 4080 when it first came out. The RTX 4080 Super is our favorite sub-$1,000 gaming GPU right now, earning it a coveted place on our guide to the best graphics card. Its launch earlier this year saw Nvidia effectively acknowledging that the original RTX 4080 offered poor value for money, and that it needed a cheaper and faster high-end chip in this price bracket. PCGamesN Thursday, June 20, 2024 9:24 AM A rather strange Steam Deck bug has appeared in Elden Ring ahead of the new Shadow the Erdtree DLC launch. If you leave the game idle for more than five minutes, all inputs may suddenly fail to register, and only a full game reboot will fix the problem. From Software is aware of the bug and is working on a fix. Ahead of the Shadow of the Erdtree release date, the original game of Elden Ring is still one of the most popular games on the Steam Deck, which itself is one of the best handheld gaming PCs. While the Black Ops 6 release date is still far on the horizon, we got a sneak peek into some new equipment on offer, both in the campaign and the multiplayer game. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 20, 2024 12:00 PM A phoenix is a mythological firebird that is periodically reborn from its own ashes, a symbol of cyclical renewal. It's also, according to several former employees of Chorus developers Fishlabs in Hamburg, an internal title for the massive cost-cutting project begun by Swedish conglomerate Embracer Group in June 2023. The current incarnation of a bewildering series of mergers, renamings and acquisitions that date back to the founding of Nordic Games in 2004, Embracer have spent much of the past decade buying up video game studios and licenses, from Deus Ex developers Eidos Montreal to the adaptation rights for The Lords Of The Rings. According to a February 2023 earnings report, by the end of December 2022 the conglomerate had 134 internal studios on the books (including table-top developers) and owned or controlled over 850 IPs, with 224 games in development. Our Graham warned of the perils of such consolidation in 2019, and his misgivings have been borne out. Following the reported collapse of a billion dollar Savvy Games investment deal, Embracer set out to recover their debts by cancelling projects, laying off staff and closing whole studios. Fishlabs - acquired by Embracer in 2018 alongside their parent company Koch Media, nowadays Plaion - were among those burned by "Project Phoenix", first losing a dozen people in September 2023, and then around half their remaining workforce in November. In the process of these reductions, Embracer also binned off two video game projects – a sumptuous sci-fi metroidvania that was in full development, and a "visual prototype" for a brand new Red Faction game. |

Ultrawide gaming monitors have clearly avoided non-starter status, given they've been around for years, seemingly being exchanged for currency – and yet they're nowhere near what you might consider the 'default' option when making a display upgrade. Regular widescreen monitors, with regular 16:9 aspect ratios, remain the go-to. So why switch? |

A good roguelike doesn't treat the player like other games do. Roguelikes won't guide you helpfully along a path, or let you cinematically snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. This is their beauty, and it's a part of why we keep coming back for another go. Next time everything will go right. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 20, 2024 7:08 AM "The Republic Of Pirates was meant to be different…" laments the narration in the opening of the seafaring resource-chain-em-up strategy, out today with a demo on Steam at time of writing. This made me laugh, in the same way someone saying "the failure of Bastard City was deeply sobering" might. Yes, I know the pirate republic was a real thing, ended not by the infighting and treachery shown here, but by the British. I will avoid easy gags about Plundering Loisences and instead lightly recommend the demo to you. It's got enough meat on its bones for a less brainwidth-hogging gulp of city building, assuming you like the pirate theme enough. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 20, 2024 6:39 AM The sinking terror that comes of having no fixed identity and being trapped alone thousands of metres beneath the ocean has been compacted into the soft, comforting (?) form of a plushie. Frictional Games, the creators of first-person horror game Soma, launched the soft toy depiction of the game's protagonist Simon on Makeship, aka Kickstarter for plushies. Normally, we don't report on merch - why would we? - but there is something deeply and darkly funny about making a fleece-coated fuzzy huggy wuggy about the psychologically harrowing experience of being forgotten under the sea. Then again, Frictional Games are not the first to do this sort of thing. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Thursday, June 20, 2024 6:17 AM Way back in 2004, that terrible year when I swore off video games entirely to focus on my university studies, developers 1C SeaWolf announced Captain Blood, a piratical action game loosely based on Rafael Sabatini's adventure novels, in which a crew of 17th century freebooters set forth across the Spanish Main to rescue a magistrate's daughter from assorted bilge-drinking scallywags. Early footage painted the portrait of a spirited 3D hack-and-slasher featuring much buckling of swashes, heaving of hos and jollying of rogers. Jim Rossignol (RPS in peace) was cautiously enthused when he played Captain Blood in 2008. "It was actually pretty fun - especially the arcade boat violence between speedy galleons - but I'm not exactly holding out for a masterpiece," he wrote. Alas, Captain Blood's ship struck a reef in the shape of unspecified publishing disputes, and sank beneath the waves after one last defiant preview showing in 2010. Now, the game has risen from the depths Flying Dutchman-style thanks to new developers Seawolf Studio and General Arcade and publisher SNEG Ltd. It'll finally launch on PC later this year. |

Game Freak in collaboration with WonderPlanet announced Pand Land, a free-to-play casual marine adventure RPG coming out on June 24, 2024 for mobile devices. In Pand Land players become captain of an expedition team in search of treasures in uncharted lands.
Aside from the ocean and land exploration, the game includes a variety of dungeons and combat challenges that can be tackled solo or alongside other players. Game Freak Head of Development Department 1 Masafumi Saito said that with Pand Land the developers strove to create a title that feels like a fully-fledged console game, but is easy to play in a smartphone screen.
In addition, Saito said that he would like to see players share information and treasure maps with each other and discover new elements of the game together. For that purpose, ahead of the release of the game Saito shared that he "saw a strange horse walking on two legs near the fortress that looms over the eastern sea."
A promotional trailer for Pand Land is now available in Japanese, and you can check it out here:
Game Freak is mostly known for being the primary developer and co-owner of the Pokemon game series. However, the studio is also known for other titles, such as Giga Wrecker Alt. and Little Town Hero.
Pand Land will come out in Japan on June 24, 2024 for Android and Apple iOS mobile devices. At the time of writing, there is no information on a global release for the game.

Hololive's Cover and Nijisanji's Anycolor have been spotted removing a number of gameplay stream archives from their Vtubers' channels. The list of Vtubers affected includes Usada Pekora and Houshou Marine from Hololive, as well as Tsukino Mito and Hanabatake Chaika from Nijisanji. All of the archives removed from the Hololive and Nijisanji Vtuber channels also happened to feature the game titled Bunny Garden. [Thanks, Inside Games.]
Bunny Garden is a Japanese dating simulation game that Qureate released for Nintendo Switch and PC in April 2024. It features the player visiting the eponymous bar to interact and build relationships with its staff members. The game does not contain any explicit scenes as it made its way to the Switch with a Japanese CERO rating of D. Nevertheless, the sexually suggestive theme is still largely seen as grounds for the archives' removals.
Tsukino Mito has also posted a tweet on her X account, confirming that a number of gameplay streams on her channel are being gradually made private. She noted a policy from her company as a reason behind the archives' disappearances. Mito added that it may be more difficult for her and other Vtubers under Anycolor to stream games with sexual themes in the near future.
It is yet to be seen whether this policy from the companies behind Hololive and Nijisanji will also apply to other games with sexually suggestive elements besides Bunny Garden. Inside Games noted that Usada Pekora's archived stream of Koei Tecmo's Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation is still available as of mid-June 2024. In addition, the stream archives of Atlus' Catherine: Full Body by Pekora and Nijisanji's Furen E Lustario are also still watchable at the same time.

The new Genshin Impact banner and rerun banner have been officially revealed, and they mark the debut of Sigewinne, Melusine nurse, and the triumphant return of Furina the Hydro Archon. The banners will go live on June 25, 2024, and the official social media account showcased every four-star character coming along with them.
Sigewinne, the newest addition, is a five-star Hydro element character. A nurse working in the Fortress of Meropide, she serves to try and keep the resident's health up and cook nutritious meals. She utilizes a bow and her kit is focused primarily on healing and support. She is also an Ousia character.
Furina, a fan-favorite character from the Fontaine story, also returns in Genshin Impact. As the Hydro Archon, she has a major role in the Fontaine chapters and events within. She is also a Hydro element five-star character. She uses swords, offers damage and healing support, and can also use both Ousia and Pneuma Arkhe reactions in combat.
Both the Genshin Impact new Sigewinne banner and Furina rerun one will also feature Rosaria, Noelle, and Gaming as the featured four-star characters. Rosaria is a Cryo character who wields a polearm. Noelle is a Geo character bearing a claymore. Gaming is a Pyro character who, like Noelle, uses a claymore.
In addition, the weapon's banner will bring both Sigewinne and Furina's signature five-star equipment. These are the bow Silvershower Heartstrings and the sword Splendor of Tranquil Waters. It also features a slate of four-star weapons including the Lithic Blade greatsword and Favonius Codex catalyst.
Genshin Impact is currently available on Windows PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. Sigewinne and Furina, along with their weapons, will arrive on June 25, 2024.

Sony announced that its rewards program will end on December 31, 2024, after which all points will be forfeit. The scheme also allowed customers to register for Sony credit cards, which will be the only way to earn more points from now until the final deadline.
The Sony Rewards program allowed members who purchased items from the Sony store to earn loyalty points, which could then be redeemed for discounts and other items like gift cards and t-shirts. Roughly speaking, every dollar spent would earn one point. These, in turn, were worth around 1 cent. Members could also sign up for a Sony Visa credit card that earned points on other eligible transactions. After June 20, 2024, the use of these cards will be the only way to earn points up until the December 2024 deadline, though whether the cards will be usable normally after the fact is yet to be detailed.
Here is the official tweet announcing the change:
Earlier in June 2024, a Genshin Impact-themed Playstation 5 console bundle was revealed for future sale in Japan. Meanwhile a new Astro Bot game was revealed at the Sony State of Play in May, 2024.
The Sony Rewards program will end on December 31, 2024, after which all rewards points will be forfeit.

After major story events in its games, HoYoVerse often releases a cinematic trailer for people to watch, and that just happened in Honkai: Star Rail with a Sparkle moment. It goes over events from the 2.0 Penacony storyline and combines it with real-world footage.
Editor's Note: The Honkai: Star Rail cinematic trailer features spoilers for the Penacony storyline that ran during versions 2.0 through 2.3.
While much of the imagery from the new Honkai: Star Rail cinematic trailer is pulled from Penacony Trailblaze Missions released before 2.3, the narration by Sparkle and explanation is set during "Farewell, Penacony." Things begin with Sparkle explaining that this segment came to a "perfect ending." She then introduces an opportunity for insights from Firefly, Aventurine, and Acheron to come up. This plays while footage from major characters, both heroes and antagonists, shows up. It also revealed the Clockmaker secret. While this happens, Sparkle explained why she did what she did throughout these missions.
It's then that Sparkle showed the buttons she distributed in Penacony. It's then that the real-world footage comes in, showing those same buttons being pressed by actual people. From there, we see the characters in Penacony and on the new Radiant Feldspar ship location introduced in 2.3. It closes with more moments with both Firefly, Stelle, and Sparkle.
Here's the full "The Great Tatalov Salutes You" cinematic trailer for Honkai: Star Rail.
2.3 is now live in the game. This added Firefly as a playable character, made it possible to earn Xueyi, and added the new Divergent Universe Simulated Universe option alongside the new story segments.
Honkai: Star Rail is available for the PS5, PC, and mobile devices.

There are also a few new hairstyles to try out and newly obtained items will contain an ! symbol to mark them in the inventory. The Elden Beast, a late game enounter, has also been changed to allow summoning your mount for easier traversal around the large arena. And then finally there are the weapon rebalances, which include both changes to specific weapons and tweaks to the stamina cost, speed, and poise damage of particular weapon archetypes.
Earlier this month, FromSoftware asked players to be mindful of spoilers ahead of the launch of the new expansion. The company also recently celebrated the game passing 25 million in sales with a new Story Catch-up trailer.

Capcom will release the new compilation of the spin-off duology worldwide on the Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 6, 2024. Good Smile Company has opened up pre-orders for a Nendoroid Doll of Oberon from Fate/Grand Order. This version of Oberon is in his Refreshing Summer Prince style.
Pre-orders are open until July 31, 2024. He costs 10,000 JPY in the Japan store and you can purchase his outfit, as well as accessories, separately for 5800 JPY. Good Smile Company will ship him out in December 2024. Meanwhile, he's $58.99 in the North American store. It doesn't look like his outfit is available as a separate purchase. The North American store will ship him out in Q2 2025.
There is only one face plate for the Fate/Grand Order Oberon Nendoroid Doll. But he comes with lots of optional parts. His outfit consists of his hoodie, pants, crown, sunglasses, and sandals. He also has a popsicle and multiple interchangeable hand parts. As a note, the skin tone for Oberon is a special one to match the original character, which means there might be so inconsistency in skin tone if you place his head on another Nendoroid Doll's body.
Nendoroid Dolls are bigger versions of Nendoroids and they have more joints. This gives them a wider range of poses, as well as allows people to put outfits on them. Previous ones Good Smile Company announced includes a Dan Heng Nendoroid Doll from Honkai; Star Rail.
Oberon is a major character in Fate/Grand Order Lostbelt 6: Avalon le Fae. As a playable unit, he is a Buster-oriented Pretender and was the first Pretender to debut back in 2021. His swimsuit Spiritron Dress appeared during Servant Summer Festival 2023 on the Japanese server.
Fate/Grand Order is readily available on mobile devices and the Oberon swimsuit Nendoroid Doll is open for pre-order until July 31, 2024.

Good Smile Company has opened global pre-orders for the new figure of Guilty Gear Strive's Bridget by Phat! Company. People in the US and Canada can head to Good Smile Online Shop US to order the figure at $216.99. Those living elsewhere worldwide can instead place an order on the company's international web store at ¥36,900.
This 1/6 scale figure will have a total height of around 350mm (13.78in). This measurement will include the effect parts from Bridget's yo-yo weapon. In addition, the figure set will also come with alternative interchangeable parts that let the owner remove the hoodie from Bridget's head.
Here are some of the sample images showing the differences between the hooded and unhooded versions of the figure:
Bridget has been amassing popularity ever since the Guilty Gear series' recurring character made her return in Strive after being previously absent in the Xrd sub-series. The global character popularity poll held in late 2023 resulted in Bridget topping the list, and many companies have also produced multiple figures modeled after her.
Good Smile Company has also previously made Nendoroids and Pop Up Parade figures of Bridget. Outside the company group, Kotobukiya and Spiritale have also produced their own figures based on the same character.
Good Smile Company will close the pre-order window for the Guilty Gear Strive Bridget figure by Phat! Company on August 21, 2024. It will start shipping the finished figures in Japan in May 2025 and in North America in Q4 2025.
