Korea IL-2 Series aims to shine a light on a nearly forgotten conflict

There are conflicts that have been seen so many times in gaming that they almost become background noise. The Korean War, on the other hand, has barely been touched by gaming. That's about to change, with the latest in the IL-2 flight simulator games taking to the skies of this forgotten conflict in the newly announced Korea IL-2 Series.

While League of Legends will always be the game I default back to, I can't deny I don't enjoy its lack of flexibility.      Nvidia's RTX 4070 Ti Super cards are reportedly getting 4090 GPUs

Several Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super cards are reportedly being made with a different GPU from previous cards, with graphics card manufacturers apparently replacing the standard RTX 4070 Ti chip with the larger chip used in the flagship RTX 4090. Before you get excited, though, this sadly doesn't mean these new RTX 4070 Ti cards are going to run at RTX 4090 speeds.

Released at the start of 2024, the RTX 4070 Ti Super updated the previous RTX 4070 Ti in several key ways. Nvidia increased the VRAM from 12GB to 16GB, widened the memory interface, and added 768 more CUDA cores as well, making it a more powerful gaming graphics card in every way. This wasn't enough to propel the GPU onto our best graphics card guide, but it was definitely an improvement.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard consultant and former Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah has published a Youtube video addressing the question: "why do AAA games take so long?" It's a tidy 25 minutes or so, and gets a fair way into the weeds of a variety of topics, from the current enthusiasm for live service "forever games" over 'finite', narrative-led affairs, to the "misleading" announcement of highly-demanded sequels years before they enter full production, in order to pump up a publisher's brand during a dry spell.

One thing I wanted to fish out and drop on your plate is Darrah's discussion of what he terms "the fidelity death cult" - that is, the desire for ever greater levels of lifelike visual detail and "intricacy".

hunters face off with the Crimson glow Valstrax in Monster Hunter Rise

For the 20th Anniversary of the Monster Hunter Series, Capcom took fan votes on their favorite theme music from the series. A recent video showcased the top ten, and the Valstrax Monster Hunter song "Silver-Winged Scarlet Star" took first place.

"Silver-Winged Scarlet Star" is the theme song for Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate flagship monster Valstrax. Capcom released an entirely new arrangement of the track in honor of it taking first. The rocket-powered hawk-dragon also received a variant in Monster Hunter Rise. That is The Crimson Glow Valstrax.

The YouTube video of this new EDM version of the track can be listened to below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzWLv9cTXCE

The other big winners of the fan poll were a collection of classics from across various generations. A number of them happened to be updated renditions re-vamped for Monster Hunter World. Among the selected tracks were the Fatalis theme "The Legend Descends - World Version," and the Raging Brachydios song "Brutish Indigo Rages." Other appearances were "Moonquake," the music for Ceadeus from Monster Hunter Tri and 3 Ultimate, alongside "Spark of Blue," the theme of fan-favorite monster Zinogre. Another was "Splendiferous Silver Sovereign," the theme of the Velkhana from Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. Not to be left out, the theme of the Lagiacrus called "Tremors on Land and Sea," secured a spot.

The full "Hunter's Choice: Top 10 Monster Themes" video from Capcom can be viewed here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V5kHkD9isg

This is the most recent announcement tied to the 20th Anniversary of Monster Hunter. A website celebrating the series' history was set up in addition to the polls for this and other fan favorite topics. Earlier in 2024, Capcom held a similar poll determining what the fans' favorite Monster was. The winner of this poll was Zinogre.

Monster Hunter World and its expansion, Iceborne, are available on the PS4, PS5, PC and Xbox. Monster Hunter Rise, the newest entry, and its expansion Sunbreak, are available on the PS4, PS5, PC and Xbox. Monster Hunter Wilds will be arriving on the PS5, Xbox One X, and PC in 2025.

Next Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation Character Appears Worldwide Simultaneously

An announcement on the official Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation Facebook page revealed the next new character will launch simultaneously worldwide. Her identity is a secret, though the reveal is set for a stream that appears at 4am PT/7am ET on June 27, 2024.

The announcement stream will feature Maria Naganawa, who voices Koharu, as a host alongside Reina Kondo. Kondo plays the new character. The video will only be in Japanese and Chinese, but the slides with new character and update information will include English.

Here's the placeholder for the stream on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8OI0yuTeKo&ab_channel=DOAXChannel

As Kondo never voiced anyone in the DOA series before, we don't have any hints ahead of time about the new Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation character. However, you may recognize the voice actress from roles like Aru in Blue Archive, Hiori in The Idolmaster: Shiny Colors, and Sakura in Horimiya.

While this will mark the first time a Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation character appeared worldwide simultaneously, there was a situation in the past where the release dates were very close. When Tina Armstrong joined the game as part of DOA25th anniversary celebrations, she showed up almost everywhere at the same time. So people on DMM, Steam, and Johren could all recruit her in the gacha, with her joining in January or February 2022 depending on where people played.

Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation is available on PC via Steam, DMM, and Johren. Even though an English version is available, it is region-locked. So you can only play it Japan and Asia.

The 1.12.22 Elden Ring patch heavily adjusts the benefits given by the Shadow Realm Blessings in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

In the latest 1.12.22 Elden Ring patch, a major shift to Shadow Realm Blessings in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC occurred. The Scadutree and Ash Remnant Blessings conferred by the key items dotted across the new areas tilted in favor of the earliest few levels.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware released the Elden Ring patch on June 26, 2024. There are no major adjustments to weapons or stat balancing, but the big change is in how the Shadow Realm Blessings affect your character. Previously, they were much more gradual, incentivizing players to try and hunt down many of the Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ash pieces as possible to survive the damage of the new zones. Bosses and many stronger enemies could kill you in one or two hits without sufficient Blessings.

Now, with these changes, the Shadow Realm Blessings are weighted far heavier in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree to help players in the earlier levels. The first half of the 20 levels of the Shadow Realm Blessing now confer much more damage and damage negation, while the back half retain their more gradual increase. The idea is that these changes will make the game more accessible to people burned by the different leveling and scaling, as well as make repeat ventures through the Shadow Realm less taxing.

Here are the full patch notes for Elden Ring 1.12.22:

Calibration Update 1.12.2 change list

Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Shadow Realm Blessings has been revised.

+ The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.

+The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.

The calibration update can be applied by logging into the multiplayer server.

If the Calibration Ver. listed at the bottom right of the title menu is not "1.12.2", then select LOGIN and apply the latest regulations before enjoying the game.

A new HoYoLab Tools update has some new details and information on it to account for Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3. Now, players can get personalized recommendations for their build.

You can read up on all the new updates via this announcement. As mentioned earlier, one of the main additions is the Upgrade Recommendation feature. This gives you an idea of what Traces to prioritize, what stats you want on your Relics, and whatnot for each character. If you're in a Discord server with people who like Honkai: Star Rail, you can also download the Mimo Bot tool from HoYoLab. This will let you view people's stats and builds. Finally, there are new maps for Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.3 and updates to the Battle Records feature.

HoYoVerse also updated the Leveling Calculator and Lineup Assistant. Now, you can use it to check out information on Firefly and Jade. You can check out the Ascension Materials for Firefly here and team recommendations for her here. Meanwhile, Jade won't appear in the game until July 10, 2024. During the second phase of the update, Argenti will have a re-run. As for the 4-stars on these banners, they're Asta, Natasha, and Serval.

Honkai: Star Rail is readily available on the PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.

Soldier 11 Zenless Zone Zero character

Soldier 11 is a Zenless Zone Zero character we've known about since the earliest announcements tied to the game way back in June 2022. Now that the game is about to launch in July 2024, HoYoVerse shared a new trailer highlighting her training regimen.

The video focuses on the combat prowess of Soldier 11 in Zenless Zone Zero. She never actually speaks or interacts with anyone in a peaceful way. A computer program begins by saying her ID has been verified, identifying her and noting that her training program will begin. It also noted that it is at the highest difficulty level and setting. She then faces an array of robots in a controlled setting. Later in the video, we see how she might also use those same skills in a real combat situation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdjl01vqjEQ&ab_channel=ZenlessZoneZero

Soldier 11 will be an S-rank character in Zenless Zone Zero. Her slash attacks have a fire element to them. She's the only OBOLS Squad character revealed for the game so far. She's also a mystery in many ways, as her whole past is redacted. So we don't know her real name or motivations, just her code name.

Zenless Zone Zero will come to the PS5, PC, and mobile devices on July 4, 2024, and the Special Program for 1.0 airs at 4am PT/3am ET/12pm BST on June 28, 2024. As she appeared in the beta tests, it is likely Soldier 11 will be one of the always-available S rank characters in the game.

FFXIV Dawntrail Art, Aetheryte Appearing Worldwide

Now that FFXIV Dawntrail early access is upon us, Square Enix started celebrating in the real world with art and an Aetheryte installation. While the Aetheryte appeared for a London gathering on June 24, 2024, the Los Angeles mural will appear for a longer period.

With the King's Cross FFXIV Aetheryte, it was specifically and temporarily installed for the event. Even people who didn't make it into the sold-out fan gathering were able to visit and post pictures with it. Here's the first picture of it when Square Enix initially set it up:

The latest installation is at the Hotel Figueroa in Los Angeles, California. This is a building near the Los Angeles Convention Center, where Anime Expo 2024 will be held between July 4-8, 2024. It often is used as a canvas for video game advertisements, with many similar sorts of images showing up during events like E3. The first photo shared by Square Enix showed FFXIV Dawntrail art of the Viera Erenville being painted, however a follow-up tweet by user Ted__Chang showed the Warrior of Light with expansion logo and G'raha Tia also appeared.

Nikke Dave the Diver event

A new Goddess of Victory: NIKKE collaboration event is on the way, and this time the unlikely partner is Dave the Diver. The event is set to launch on July 4, 2024, and will include a new minigame and new skins for characters like Mast and Anchor.

The new event features the characters Helm, Anchor, and Mast taking part in what appears to be a pretty faithful recreation of Dave the Diver's core gameplay including diving, fishing, and then operating a sushi restaurant at night. New costumes have also been confirmed. Anchor's diver skin will be available through playing the minigame, while Mast's skin is found in the premium track of the new "Diver Pass".

You can watch the trailer for the crossover event via YouTube below:

Meanwhile, back in March 2024, it was announced that Dave the Diver would also be having a collaboration with Arc System Works' Guilty Gear Strive.

Goddess of Victory: NIKKE is immediately available for PCs and mobile devices, while Dave the Diver is available for the PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The NIKKE x Dave the Diver crossover event will begin on July 4, 2024.
