Modders are working to fix Fallout London's new canine companion

Oh yes, every game should have a dog companion and that's especially true for a Fallout game. From Dogmeat in the first game to, uh, Dogmeat in Fallout 4 - canines and our characters have gone hand in paw since the series began. Fallout: London is no exception and its lovely little lad is a bulldog named Churchill, but he doesn't always behave quite like you'd expect. Thankfully, modders are hard at work, and they're already making great strides forward with this pup.

Infest is a roguelike deckbuilder that channels Worms' strategy design

More games should have destructible levels. If the humble Worms series, long a mainstay of laughing with your friends over the most diabolical ways to murder one another with makeshift traps, can do it, other games can, too. While we do have shooters and action games like Battlefield 5, Just Cause 3, and Red Faction Guerrilla to scratch this itch, it's largely been up to smaller teams, like those responsible for Teardown, to give us interesting ways to play with level structure. The latest example of this is Infest, which marries turn-based strategy with roguelike deckbuilding and, most importantly, features a wildly open ended approach to environmental destruction and manipulation.

Certainly, nobody wants a guy whose ideas about automobiles come from 2018's Wreckfest to be involved in the school run. It's a hell of a thing to showcase a remake weeks after kiboshing the developers of the original game. In early July, Gothic creators Piranha Bytes were reportedly shuttered as part of Embracer Group's mad race to trim costs, following their decade-long acquisition binge. Watching THQ Nordic's new Gothic Remake trailer, below, feels a little like watching a vivisectionist parade about in somebody else's skin. Still, the remake's developers Alkimia Interactive aren't to blame for Embracer's fuck-ups, and I am selfishly happy to see Gothic return as an Unreal Engine 5 production - even if I didn't play the original back in 2001.

Sin did play the original game, and in her 2016 retrospective, she paints an absorbing picture of a dark fantasy "microsociety" in which every community "has a reason to exist, a means of providing for itself, a social order, and a long term goal". It's a setup that reminds me of my beloved Roadwarden, even as the sight of grumpy lizards slinking through undergrowth has me silently mouthing "fus roh dah".

Titan Quest 2! Now there's a name you can set your watch by. No colons, no bespoke jargon, no tortuous subtitles like "Gaia's B.O.U.N.T.Y." or "Hyperion's Wild Rumpus" - just the steadying prospect of a titanic quest that, who knows, may involve actual titans. The action-RPG beneath the moniker appears similarly straightforward: it's about following a plot thread through a mythological world in top-down view, smashing Ancient Greek giga-crabs and the like to obtain shinier, pointier varieties of gear. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that there's an endgame in which you farm monsters for crafting materials.

Like Pandora opening her box, but without the accompanying tidal wave of sickness, curses and death, THQ Nordic have released a new trailer that talks you though all of this in detail. Here it is...

japan xbox expensive

The Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S in Japan will become more expensive in Japan from August 15, 2024. This change will only affect Japan and it is likely due to the poor economy in that country. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Here are the new adjusted prices for Xbox consoles in Japan:

  • Xbox Series X: 59,978 JPY to 66,978 JPY
  • Xbox Series S 1TB (Black): 44,578 JPY to 49,978 JPY
  • Xbox Series S 512GB: 37978 JPY to 44,578 JPY

As mentioned earlier, this change is likely due to the weaker yen. According to Windows, it changed the prices as a result of changes in the market. These prices will only go into effect on August 15, 2024. So if you're in Japan without one of the above Xbox models and you were thinking of getting one, you might want to purchase a model before they become more expensive.

This is not the first time that consoles became more expensive as a result of some sort of economic challenge. Back in 2022, the PS5 became more expensive in various regions and countries. This was, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, due to "challenging economic conditions" from inflation, as well as "adverse currency trends." In other words, Sony raised the prices of the PS5 for the exact same reasons Microsoft is making Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles more expensive.

The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in Japan will see a price adjustment in August 15, 2024, and they will become more expensive.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable Feels Like a Spider-Man Game

Attack on Titan follows these soldiers who use their equipment to go soaring through the skies to take down colossal enemies. Seems like a good game premise, right? It's happened before, and they can be fun! When it comes to an Attack on Titan VR game, it seems like the sort of thing to go into more cautiously due to all the movement and the concerns about VR sickness or handling it right, but the execution Univrs used almost makes it feel like a Spider-Man sort of game.

I just really wish the titans' models weren't so hideous and weird-looking.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable Feels Like a Spider-Man Game
Screenshot by Siliconera

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable is an early access game, so it isn't all there yet. The concept is that titans are again attacking the cities and getting inside the walls, just like they did in the iconic opening parts of the manga and anime. In the two chapters you have access to, you can see what it's like to fight back against them.

I was incredibly worried going into Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable. All of the early details and videos made it seem like a very active game. After all, it focuses on the Omni-Directional Mobility (ODM) gear and zipping around the map. You're even, ideally, supposed to be attacking while swinging too. The funny thing is while walking on the ground sometimes did feel a little uncomfortable, I didn't feel uneasy or ill at all while actually using the ODM to fly around. It is really accommodating! It's always the main reason why Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable felt like a Spider-Man game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BijYiRhxEGU

See, Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable actually gets really in-depth about movement, and the actions used to soar seemed like ones Peter Parker or Miles Morales would use. If you want to quickly scale in one set, defined direction, you aim both the left and right controllers in such a way that their reticles line up together and look like a diamond. Then, you pull back on them. (Like how Parker or Morales would probably pull back on webbing.) After that, you then sort of pull and swing toward areas. Even the nature of swinging the blades that you can pick up, replace with new blades, and use to swipe at the back of titans' necks or appendages feel like maybe a certain friendly, neighborhood superhero might with a weapon. It's really neat and feels good.

So the gameplay is strong. But, in some cases, the depictions of characters isn't? It's weird. As part of the introduction and tutorial, Levi saves you as you're being eaten by a titan. (Like as in you actually see yourself going over the lips, past the gums, look out stomach…) It looked like a 3D model, from what I saw, and it was great! But then when story segments with Armin came up, he very clearly looked like an unmoving, 2D figure. Like instead of animated segments setting things up, you'd see him static and flat in one position, the game would cut to black, you'd see him static in another position, things would cut to black again, and so on. I'd have preferred static images like the used for the introductory and expository segments instead.

But I would take the Paper Mario version of Armin any day over the ugly titans. They look so bad in Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable that they aren't even scary. They're just disgusting. It made me appreciate the Koei Tecmo Attack on Titan games more, as at least there these fearsome foes actually seem scary and menacing. In the VR adaptation, they're too dopey and goofy to feel like a threat. I mean, yes, you will die in only two hits if one manages to actually swat at you before you get in the right position to attack them. But the enemy models and designs just look bad.

I mean, look! Gross.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable Feels Like a Spider-Man Game
Screenshot by Siliconera

I will say that even though these are goofy and abominable, at least it is easy to see the neck for attacks. Also, the arms and legs are easy to swipe at and attack, so there are no hitbox issues when striking at them.

I am genuinely curious about how the final version of Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable is going to turn out, as the ODM mechanics are surprisingly fun! Like it really offered a sense of freedom, without making me feel queasy. Well, unless I was looking at a titan. Or needing to really quick spin and maneuver in circles to get around a titan to attack it. You know what I mean. There are some rough spots, which honestly could be due to it being an early access title. But it may prove to be an interesting Attack on Titan game, or at least a fun not-Spider-Man game with Spider-Man-like mechanics.

Attack on Titan VR: Unbreakable Early Access is live now on the  Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro
