Welcome to the Week in Review
Welcome
It’s iPhone time! Wait a minute… this isn’t September – there aren’t red and golden leaves on the trees. How is it possibly time for another iPhone? I guess we should ask Apple, and specifically Tim Cook, who has officially teased that a new product will be unveiled next Wednesday.

All signs point to it being the new, redesigned iPhone SE 4. If you've been following Apple for long enough, though, you’ll know that the timing of this likely update to the most affordable iPhone is not unusual – the SEs never arrive alongside Apple’s flagship phones.

And the timing may be calculated. After all, we expect iOS 18.4 to be released any day now, and it will bring with it, finally, the full version of Apple Intelligence. It makes some sense for Apple’s AI vision to arrive alongside, and on, a new iPhone.

While Apple has us primed for next week, the AI world was as busy as ever this week, with OpenAI looking to rethink its ChatGPT lineup (think a helpful simplification), and a slightly alarming study from Microsoft warning about what this omnipresent new technology might be doing to our brains – although I’d suggest we don’t need to get too worked up about it.

If you’re the type who likes to work out rather than get worked up, we’ve got some interesting findings on the views of Garmin users in the wake of last week's big outage – and the brand also put that unpleasantness behind it this week by launching a couple of new devices.

Maybe don’t spend a chunk of your weekend heading to the theater to see Captain America: Brave New World, as our own Tom Power has more or less deemed it a disappointment. Sigh. I guess I’ll just have to wait for James Gunn’s Superman if I want to see a decent superhero film.

If reading all this, or any of the articles linked below, moves you to disappointment, joy, or any other emotion, feel free to vent in our new comments section, which you’ll now find at the bottom of most of our articles – we’d love to talk it out with you.

Enjoy the weekend!
