Capcom announces a delay that already happened ten months ago

If you're like me, you remember Capcom's Pragmata primarily for the trailer that looked like it dropped straight out of the mind of Hideo Kojima, with an astronaut, a holographic cat, and a little girl that likes to stare mysteriously at the moon. We still don't know what the game actually is, but we do know that it's been delayed until 2023, as Capcom announced today. But even that announcement is bizarre, because it already happened back in January.

Pragmata was among the games whose release dates were quietly shifted in a Sony CES stream earlier this year. It wasn't a full announcement of the delay, but slides in the presentation suggested that the game had been pushed back from 2022 to 2023. Now, ten months later, Capcom has confirmed exactly that.

"Our team is hard at work on the project," the devs say in a tweet, "but to ensure this will be an unforgettable adventure, we've decided to shift the release window to 2023. In the meantime, we have a brand new artwork to share with you. Thank you for your patience."

Xbox, PlayStation, and 1,000 employees are very unhappy with Activision Blizzard

Earlier this week, a Wall Street Journal article alleged that Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick had suppressed reports of harassment and abuse at the company over the years. Now, two of the publisher's most important partners - Xbox and PlayStation - are criticising the company, and 1,000 Activision Blizzard employees have signed a petition calling for Kotick's removal as CEO.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer sent an email to staff saying that he is "evaluating all aspects of our relationship with Activision Blizzard and making ongoing proactive adjustments", according to a report from Bloomberg. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that Bloomberg's report is accurate, and passed along an additional statement from Spencer.

"I personally have strong values for a welcoming and inclusive environment for all of our employees at Xbox," Spencer says. "This is not a destination but a journey that we will always be on. The leadership at Xbox and Microsoft stand by our teams and support them in building a safer environment for all."

Stellaris' next species pack features aquarium ships and a space dragon

Stellaris has another species pack coming out to coincide with the release of the grand strategy game's 3.2 'Herbert' update. The Aquatics Species Pack, as you might well guess, adds an oceanic origin, along with a marine-themed new civic, trait, and ascension perk. The Aquatic people fly through space in capital ship-sized aquariums, and seek to please the dragon that circles their homeworld.

Playing with the aquatic origin, you'll begin on a peaceful ocean homeworld. There's one issue, though: it's orbited by a mythical space dragon, whose attitude toward you and your people will determine whether it protects or seeks to destroy you. Apart from that, the aquatics' new Anglers civic means you'll be able to take advantage of the bounties of the sea, and thrive on other oceanic worlds.

For planets that aren't quite as watery, don't worry: the new hydrocentric ascension perk means you'll be able to terraform other worlds, even importing oceans from other planets if need be. To help do that, you'll have a full fleet of ships that function as interstellar aquariums, accompanied by a new adviser who has a distinctive 'Seafarer' voice.

There's a free Radiohead game that unlocks Radiohead music in Fortnite

I don't think I could write a headline that more perfectly encapsulates the state of videogames in 2021. Experimental rock band Radiohead has a special reissue of Kid A and Amnesia, and alongside it has released Kid A Mnesia Exhibition, a digital art exhibit available published by Epic for free on PC and PlayStation 5. It also gets you free Radiohead music in Fortnite.

Kid A Mnesia Exhibition was released today alongside Epic's regular rotation of free PC games. It's described on the store page as "a fevered dream-space, an edifice, built from the art and creatures, words and recordings of Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac uncovered from 20-odd years ago, reassembled and given new mutant life."

If you claim Kid A Mnesia Exhibition from the Epic Games Store, the next time you log into Fortnite, you'll be greeted with the message that "your purchased items are waiting for you", and you'll have a new bit of music to run in the game. Well, er, 'music'. The track is Untitled v1 from Kid A Mnesia, which is pretty experimental even as Radiohead tracks go.

Star Wars: The Old Republic could one day add vibroblades, electrostaffs, and more

Changes on the way to Star Wars: The Old Republic are going to drastically expand players options for character customisation in the MMORPG, which is now celebrating its tenth anniversary. With the game splitting classes into origin stories and combat styles, a new world of possibilities will exist: a Republic trooper who uses the Imperial agent's sniper rifle, or even a Sith warrior who fights like a Jedi knight.

It's a big change on its own, of course, and adds considerably to the role playing options players will have when they decide to either begin The Old Republic's storyline anew or hop into the new Legacy of the Sith expansion. But creative director Charles Boyd hints that the new system also opens up additional possibilities in the future - although he's not ready to talk specifics just yet.

"We haven't announced any new combat styles or anything, or any plans to that effect," he tells us. "But separating [origin stories from combat styles] makes that a lot more achievable for the future - so you know, that's certainly a possibility."

Destiny 2's anniversary update is making big changes to supers and class abilities

Destiny 2 is getting a mid-season patch for Bungie's 30th anniversary, and it's bringing some significant changes to the way abilities and supers work for the space game's guardians. In the latest This Week at Bungie, Destiny 2's designers explain how and why they're taking the red pen to many class abilities in the game, and reworking the way supers recharge in a significant way.

Designer Kevin Yanes says the feedback the team has collected this year has pointed to the dominating presence of abilities in the Crucible, and so the time has come to rein some of them in substantially. Overall, the team says abilities shouldn't be firing as often as they do, and when they do, they usually shouldn't be one-shot kills in competitive play.

Designer Mike Humboldt points out that one of the design goals for Crucible is for weapons to be the primary focus of combat, and that class abilities are meant to accent gunplay rather than supplant it. Changes to stasis crystals mean Hunters' shatterdive won't typically kill a full-health guardian, and neither will any of the Titans' shoulder charges. Warlocks, however, are getting a boost to how quickly they can repeat melee attacks, matching the rate at which Hunters and Titans can. The range on their slaps, however, is getting pulled in to 4.5 metres (from 5.5 metres).

SWTOR Legacy of the Sith release date and everything we know

Star Wars: The Old Republic is approaching its tenth anniversary, and Bioware has recently released several remastered launch trailers to celebrate the occasion. New and returning players will have plenty of new content to enjoy, as Bioware officially announces the release date for the upcoming Legacy of the Sith expansion - the first new SWTOR expansion since 2019's Onslaught.

In a reveal livestream, Bioware unveiled more details about the next chapter of the SWTOR storyline. Legacy of the Sith takes players back to the ocean planet of Manaan, home of the Selkath species, and the only source of kolto - a powerful healing fluid.

The Legacy of the Sith update also includes a new flashpoint, new characters, and increases the level cap to 80. If you don't have a high level character to play through the expansion with, you can purchase a token that will take you to the start of the previous expansion, Onslaught. The update also splits the traditional class system into 'origin stories' and 'combat styles', introducing more flexibility for players to customise their playstyle. Here's everything you need to know about Legacy of the Sith.

Phil Spencer hopes for industry-wide emulation, even as Xbox emulation ends

Videogame emulation is great at two things: preserving gaming history, and allowing people to easily pirate old software. The industry's relationship with emulation has been rocky as a result, but Xbox's excellent first-party emulation efforts have offered everyone a bit of hope - until those efforts came to an end following the most recent Xbox backward compatibility update. Still, the head of Xbox has hope that the industry will come to a solution to preserve old games.

"My hope (and I think I have to present it that way as of now) is as an industry we'd work on legal emulation that allowed modern hardware to run any (within reason) older executable allowing someone to play any game," Xbox boss Phil Spencer tells Axios.

Spencer's stated hope comes just after Microsoft's gaming division brought its own first-party emulation efforts to an end. "While we continue to stay focused on preserving and enhancing the art form of games," as the announcement put it, "we have reached the limit of our ability to bring new games to the catalog from the past due to licensing, legal, and technical constraints."

Luckily, the Early Access period did allow DICE to locate some critical issues ahead of the worldwide launch. It's a hopeful sign that the Standard Edition's release won't be so rocky, as the update targets server stability and reduces instances of rubber banding. This will not be the only update addressing performance concerns. Battlefield Community Manager Adam Freeman wrote more updates would come the following weeks, with balance updates, quality of life enhancements, and further performance fixes.   "In the coming weeks, we'll have more to share around further upcoming fixes, balance changes, and QoL enhancements," Freeman wrote. "Over the next 30 days, we're presently scheduled to release two further updates, with our next update delivering more fixes and improvements that we've identified during ...

Sifu Launch Update TrailerOver the last year, we've gotten so many game delay announcements that it's hard to keep up. Today's news regarding Sifu feels refreshing. The martial arts brawler was scheduled to release late February next year. But that's all changed, and for the better. Sifu will now launch two weeks earlier on PC via the Epic Games Store, heading out the gate on February 8, 2022. The announcement, though, does read a bit confusing. Developer Sloclap paired the announcement with a new trailer. Its description notes that "Sifu will be released on the PlayStation Store on February 8th, 2022. We have made good progress on getting our game ship-ready and we are excited to be able to launch Sifu two weeks earlier than anticipated." The words used would suggest that the early launch for Sifu is only for the PlayStation Store. However, the trailer itself includes the new date along with the EGS logo. So, I'm rolling with that for now.   Sifu, for those who...

Pragmata delay colorsIn June of last year, Capcom unveiled its first trailer for a bizarre new project titled Pragmata. Clocking in at over two minutes, the trailer did not show off any gameplay, but it did leave a lasting impression. Its highly-detailed graphics and strange imagery weren't too dissimilar to that of Death Stranding. Capcom has put out few updates since then, so it's understandable to wonder when the company will share more information. Yesterday morning, Capcom finally provided fans with an update, albeit a bittersweet one. The company officially announced that it would delay Pragmata from its initial release window of 2022 to 2023. Players can find the company's statement on the matter on Pragmata's official Twitter account. The statement does not go into much detail over the circumstances that led to the delay, only saying that "our team is hard at work on the project, but to ensure this will be an unforgettable adventure, we've decided to shift the...

Halo Infinite battle pass changesIt was only yesterday that 343 Industries began talking about the concerns over Halo Infinite's Battle Pass. The fight for higher rank has been a struggle, and players have expressed disappointment in the grind. Getting presented with the option of spending more than 200 hours to hit rank 100, or spending cash for XP boosts, didn't make many people happy. 343 said it was looking into the feedback, and late last night said that changes to the Halo Infinite Battle Pass will begin this week. It's a quick turnaround, but it's hard to know what affect the changes will make. However, we do have an idea of what it will look like. Taking to Twitter, John Junyszek, the Halo community manager, wrote that "targeting tunings" are coming. The first change out the gate will be a new challenge: "Play 1 Game." Completing a single match will likely offer more XP, which Junyszek writes will "help make sure you consistently progress through the Bat...
