Red Dead Online gets festive content starting from next week

December is here and full of cheer, so your favourite PC games are getting a winter makeover. Red Dead Online is no different, with Rockstar Games revealing in a blog post that the cowboy game is getting four weeks of bonuses on Moonshiner and Trader Sales, bounty hunting, call to arms, gun rush, and more.

Starting next week, Rockstar says you can expect "flurries in the forecast and celebrations to be in full swing with decorations at your campsite and moonshine shack, as well as on the cobbled streets of Saint Denis". Basically, expect a blanket of fluffy snow and some fairy lights on buildings. Oh, and you're getting carols, music, and season's greetings from Cripps, Harriet, and Gus on your travels, too.

Red Dead Online is also getting seasonal Call to Arms maps, though you'll have to wait until December 21 for that. Check your local inbox when the time comes for telegrams describing "heartless bandits laying siege to the holdouts at Colter, Rhodes, Hanging Dog Ranch, and Emerald Ranch under the cover of inclement weather". It also looks like a festive train will be stopping in the Rhodes and Emerald Ranch amidst the fighting, though it'll just have more dudes with guns - no presents here.

Free games: Historical city builder Anno 1404 is free-to-keep

City-building games continue to be prolific well past the heyday of SimCity, as the continued success of games like Anno 1800 can attest. Now, Ubisoft is giving you an excuse to dive into the historical series' back catalogue, as Anno 1404 is now free-to-keep for a limited time.

You can grab Anno 1404 History Edition via Ubisoft from now until December 14 at 6am PST / 9am EST / 2pm GMT. Once it's claimed, it'll be in your Ubisoft Connect library forever, just as with any digital game you might purchase. (You can pick up Anno 1404 at a 50% discount right now on Steam, but that version still activates through the Ubisoft client.)

The History Edition of Anno 1404 was released in 2020 as part of the Anno History Collection, which gently updated the original games to run on modern PCs at current resolutions. Anno 1404 History Edition includes both the base game and the Venice expansion, which adds multiplayer options as well as a host of additional content.

Hunt: Showdown now lets you manage your inventory while in the field

Haunted weird west co-op game Hunt: Showdown just got a handy new feature in its latest patch that lets you rearrange your inventory while out in the field. It's simple to use and will let you stick things in the hotbar slots you're accustomed to, even after picking up a bunch of gear off a downed rival hunter.

Here's how the new system works. You select the item you want to move so you're holding it in front of you. Then, simply hold down the key for the inventory slot in which you want to place it. Your inventory will automatically rearrange, and whatever item had been in the new inventory slot will swap to the slot you've just moved the first item out of.

It's a pretty elegant solution to field inventory management, since it doesn't require you to actually pull up a screen-covering inventory menu to do it. Bear in mind that you'll only be able to swap around items that share the same type, so weapons have to go in weapon slots, while consumables can only go in consumable slots.

Retailers can't list the RTX 2060 12GB, let alone sell it, because of insufficient stock

Nvidia launches its RTX 2060 12GB GPU today, but you'd be forgiven for not realising, as the company has done little to promote the card's release. In fact, team green is yet to release an MSRP for it and even cancelled a Founders Edition version of the graphics card, just a few days ago. Now, it appears that some major retailers are yet to receive "sufficient stock" to warrant listing Nvidia's new GPU, let alone sell it.

We spoke to a representative from UK retailer Scan, who told us that "we'll be listing the RTX 2060 12GB when we have sufficient stock to sell on the website. This avoids creating the situation where we take pre-orders but cannot confirm to customers when they might receive their order".

While the ongoing chip shortage and the cryptocurrency boom have severely impacted the availability of the best graphics cards, many hoped that Nvidia's decision to re-release the RTX 2060 would help alleviate stock issues. Unfortunately, it appears to have done little to address the depressing circumstances we continue to find ourselves in.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is getting NFTs

Ubisoft is officially into NFTs. The publisher has announced 'Digits', a form of non-fungible token that will provide unique versions of in-game items to players who purchase them. The Ubisoft Quarts platform is launching to allow players to manage their Digits. The first rollout of Digits will land in Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

Three drops of free Digits will arrive for the PC version of Ghost Recon Breakpoint on December 9, 12, and 15. The beta version of Ubisoft Quartz will be available starting December 9 at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT. Ubisoft says that Digits can be "put on sale for other eligible players to acquire on third-party platforms outside of the Ubisoft ecosystem".

These Ghost Recon Breakpoint items feature unique serial numbers that will be visible in-game, so other players know exactly who to shoot in PvP. As Ubisoft explains in a press release, "Digits are a new way to experience cosmetic items, combining the fun of playing with AAA quality assets and the thrill of owning NFTs that represent unique, collectible pieces of Ubisoft game worlds."

The best Genshin Impact Itto build

Looking for the best Genshin Impact Itto build? Arataki Itto is a part-oni Geo claymore character, and he's the leader of the Arataki gang in Inazuma. While he may look somewhat uncouth, he's actually just mischievous, with a heart of gold underneath his fancy cropped coat.

According to information gleaned from the beta, Itto will appear in the Genshin Impact 2.4 update, alongside fellow Geo user Gorou. These two new Genshin Impact characters are set to appear on the same upcoming Genshin Impact banner; Itto is reportedly a five-star character, whereas Gorou is a four-star.

If you plan to pull for Arataki Itto, you may be preparing to acquire the best artifacts and weapons for him, and making plans on how he will fit into your party. However, while Itto's abilities are now available for fans to read, they are based on information from the beta, and so are subject to change when he becomes available. With that in mind, here's the best Arataki Itto build.

FFXIV is getting a round of fixes for Endwalker login errors this week

Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker expansion is here, though oodles of players haven't been able to try it. Since early access launched last week, the MMORPG has seen record levels of players trying to squeeze in so they can tootle off to the moon. While some people have logged some decent playtime, others have been error coded to the back of the queue before getting onto their server.

Coinciding with the full release of Endwalker, producer and director Naoki Yoshida has delivered an update on where the team is at with identifying and fixing various errors that are stopping people from logging in.

Yoshida shares that FFXIV is getting lobby server maintenance "at the earliest timing possible", though it'll only last 30 minutes and won't affect people who are signed in. The MMO is also getting some world maintenance tomorrow (December 8) that'll last for four hours, which will require all the servers to go offline. So, essentially, you're going to be taking a break. "We deeply apologise for this but ask for your cooperation as we address these server errors," Yoshida says. "The exact maintenance times will be shared in an upcoming announcement."

How to install a graphics card

In many ways, a graphics card is the beating heart of any gaming PC. Sure, the best gaming CPU helps when it comes to brainwork, but a GPU upgrade can keep your rig running the latest games at respectable resolutions and frame rates. Thankfully, you won't need surgeon expertise to transplant the component into your current build, as it's one of the simplest changes you can make to your setup.

Before you swap out your GPU, it's important to consider whether or not it requires an upgrade. After all, new graphics cards aren't cheap, and ongoing supply issues mean even entry-level cards like Nvidia's RTX 2060 12GB are fetching a high price. If you're failing to boost fps with your current configuration, there's also a chance another component is to blame, as ageing CPUs can cause a performance bottleneck.

The best way to figure this out is to boot up MSI Afterburner and take a look at the graphics card and processor loads. If your chip hits highs of 90 to 100% while your GPU is sitting below 80%, then it's better to go for a CPU upgrade rather than forking out for the wrong part. You might even benefit from a BIOS update or investing in the best gaming RAM - the minimum we'd recommend is 16GB nowadays.

Destiny 2's big Bungie 30th Anniversary party and mid-season patch arrive today

Destiny 2's mid-season update arrives today, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the space game's developer, Bungie. For weeks, the studio has been talking about this update in its weekly blog posts, and today's patch brings with it a host of adjustments and fixes, as well as the launch of the 30th Anniversary Pack DLC.

The anniversary DLC adds a new three-player dungeon, Grasp of Avarice, which Bungie says was inspired by the famous Cosmodrome loot caves from the original Destiny, where players found they could easily farm gear by blasting the enemies who respawned inside. The pack also includes a new questline for the exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn, which will come in handy for any loot cave-related activities.

The DLC pack is $24.99 / £21.99, but the anniversary event kicks off with a free six-player activity meant to commemorate Bungie's history stretching back to its formation in 1991. Here's hoping we see a nod to its excellent RTS game, Myth: The Fallen Lords in there somewhere.

Phasmophobia is getting tarot cards with its Cursed Possessions update

The teases keep on coming for Phasmophobia. The devs at Kinetic Games recently teased a Phasmophobia Christmas update coming to the ghost game - which it seems will be called the Cursed Possessions update - and now a new mechanic is confirmed as on the way, in the form of tarot cards.

Lead artist at the studio Corey J. Dixon has shared a tweet (below) with a bunch of spooky, hand-drawn images made up to look like a deck of seven cards. "We've found some mysterious cards," the dev teases. "There's a few missing, what could they do?" The answer to that is currently a mystery, but we can get an idea of what the team's up to through the cards themselves.

Three are clear to see, with images representing 'death', 'the hermit', and 'the moon' - and they're a little gruesome. The first is the face of figure contorting their skin with their fingertips, the 'hermit' depicts a figure desperately trying to escape their bonds, and the latter is of a lovely crescent moon, sure - but it's also placed slap bang onto the image of a brain.

Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 1 – everything we know

Want to know about Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 1? Vanguard receives its first big update since it launched back in November, introducing new maps, modes, perks, and all new Zombies content. Arguably the largest update comes in the form of the Warzone patch which replaces Verdansk, the battle royale game's staple map for the past two years with Caldera, the new Warzone map.

Just like the previous seasons, Vanguard and Warzone are going to receive shared content like guns, operators, and weapon blueprints which work across both games. Each season features a battle pass, complete with a free and premium track. The premium track sets players back 1000 COD points, however, reaching the end of the track can earn you 1300 COD points in addition to all of the rewards.

Zombies mode was criticised heavily at launch by the Call of Duty community due to its lack of content compared to previous games in the series. It looks like the new season is addressing these complaints, adding in new challenges, covenants, objectives, and more. Here's everything coming to Call of Duty Vanguard and Warzone Season 1.

How to manage cables – six ways to keep your gaming PC neat and tidy

Building your own gaming PC has never been easier, but even the best graphics card and RGB clad case can't always save you from Reddit ridicule. The reason? Well, if your rig's innards resemble some sort of spaghetti monster, it could spoil the build's overall aesthetic, and its overall performance could be hampered due to poor airflow.

Implementing a cable management system inside your gaming PC might seem like a chore, but it could help you get the most of our of your rig. For starters, cleaning up your cables could prevent tasks like upgrading to the best gaming CPU from feeling like an action movie bomb disposal scene. Better still, if you want to boost fps in your favourite games, freeing up case room can help keep things cool when overclocking your CPU and GPU.

Of course, you could just cheat by packing everything behind the best gaming motherboard and jamming the side panel back on, but there are far more elegant solutions out there. Follow these six steps of cable management and your setup could look like it's been done by a professional in no time.

Warframe's New War picks up narrative threads that have been dangling for years

The New War is about to kick off in Warframe, and developer Digital Extremes says it's the largest narrative addition it's made to the space game yet. The New War, which launches December 15, unites not only all of Warframe's disparate factions in the face of an ancient menace, it also leverages all of Warframe's new systems and play modes.

In the New War, the Tenno are faced with their greatest threat: the Sentient, an artificial form of life that laid waste to the Origin System - you know, the one with Earth in it - back during the Old War. It was the invasion of the Sentients that prompted the development of warframes to begin with, and this time, the Tenno are going to need all the help they can muster in order to match their threat.

In the new expansion, players will join forces and even play as members of the Grineer and Corpus, who've traditionally been the Tenno's enemies in Warframe. Grineer lancer Kahl-175, Corpus technician Veso, and ancient Dax soldier Teshin are all playable over the course of New War's new cinematic questline.

How to get the best New World gear

Wondering how to get the best New World gear? There are a few ways to get your hands on new pieces of armour and New World weapons - you can pick them up as drops from enemies or in chests, purchase them from the marketplace or your New World faction shop, or craft them by hand.

You may be content just to upgrade your equipment as you go if you're close to the gear's equip level - the easiest way to get good gear is from the faction shop. However, if you're looking to get the most out of your character for New World PvP or high level content, you'll probably want to seek out even better gear.

If you're after the highest gear scores and the best perks and attributes for your build, you can either craft gear to your exact specifications, or hope that high level weapons drop from enemies. At level 60, the New World gear progression changes a little, and a 'watermark' system is introduced for high level gear. Here's everything you need to know about gear in New World.

Age of Empires 2 cheats – everything you need to know

So you want some Age of Empires 2 cheats? As the most popular out of all the legacy Age of Empires RTS games, AOE2 is still getting dedicated support through new DLC - one of which was released earlier this year, with another on the way. It's so popular, that World's Edge and Relic Entertainment have basically based Age of Empires 4's design off of it.

Like all Age of Empires games, it also has some wonderful cheats that can spawn whacky units, like a Shelby Cobra or Alfred the Alpaca. I always found these way more fun than the usual codes that gave you more resources. 'Cheating' in Age of Empires was less about gaming the system than it was about letting loose and having some fun.

A couple of important things to note with regards to Age of Empires 2 cheats. For the unit cheats, these always spawn at a player's Town Center building. If you don't have one, you won't get the unit no matter how many times you type it in. Furthermore, entering a code will prevent you from obtaining any achievements in that session. In the Definitive Edition you can also get medals earned for single-player scenarios - these will also be disabled if you use cheats, so be warned!

Hearts of Iron 4 cheats – a guide to the best console commands

Is it time to bust out some Hearts of Iron IV cheats? Grand strategy games provide an amazing strategic sandbox to play around in, but they can also be hard. But if you're wanting to take the vanilla game through its paces, you may need some help in other ways.      AMD Rembrandt Ryzen APUs could rival GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU performance

AMD's Ryzen APUs may rank among the best gaming CPUs for their compute performance, but they're also a great option if you're looking for basic graphics performance without having to fork out for the best gaming laptops. Thanks to the power of RDNA 2, the company's upcoming 'Rembrandt' mobile chips could rival Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q in GPU performance.

According to hardware leaker 9550pro, at least one of the Rembrandt APUs scored 2,700 in 3DMark's Time Spy benchmark. This doesn't mean much until you view the score in context with other similarly scoring mobile GPUs, which Uzzi38 lays out nicely for us. The AMD chip's performance sits snugly between an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max-Q and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti mobile graphics card.

Synthetic benchmark scores don't translate to real-world performance, but this is a pretty impressive showing for integrated graphics. It could help boost the performance budget laptops as well as handheld gaming PCs, like any future iterations of Valve's Steam Deck.

FFXIV Error 2002 – what it is, and how to fix it

Final Fantasy XIV's Endwalker expansion has now fully launched, and if early access is anything to go by, things are going to get suitably busy for Square Enix's servers. That's nothing too surprising, though, as the team has explained this was likely to happen in a blog post discussing server congestion. The devs have shared some nifty explainers on how busy servers affect login wait times, character creation, and instances for new areas. They've also detailed what FFXIV's Error 2002 is, though you can skip ahead in this article to get the full breakdown. Basically, things are busy.

Producer Naoki Yoshida previously told us in an interview that the team was doing everything it could to ensure a smooth launch, even though it was "just inevitable" that you would face a wait to jump in. "There are different elements that we can look at when we're trying to address congestion – there are things we can improve using technology, there are places where we can find people and resources to address that, and there are also places where we can invest money. We are currently putting all of our energy into all three of these points," he said at the time.

Yoshida also explained that fundamentally fixing the issue would involve increasing the number of servers "significantly so that players would be able to log in without any waiting times", though that isn't currently possible due to the effects of COVID-19 on development. "It's unfortunately the reality that there are not enough semiconductors on the market," he said. "So even though we would like to invest the money into this field, we're not able to at the moment – this is the most critical issue that we're facing right now."

Warzone Season One RoadmapThe Call of Duty: Vanguard pre-season is coming to an end. Season One will see Vanguard and Warzone get an array of brand new content, as shown on the roadmap. You can hop in to a new battle royale experience with new guns and perks, while playing new multiplayer maps. The Season One update does not forget about zombies, either. Although there are no details of a new map, Der Anfang is getting more content. For the first time, there will be three free weapons in the Vanguard battle pass. The first is the Cooper Carbine assault rifle which you can unlock at tier 15. The weapon has been described as a hybrid rifle with submachine gun properties, so it will suit close-quarter fights. Then, reaching tier 31 of the battle pass will see you earn the Gorenko Anti-Tank Rifle sniper. The gun deals the most damage per shot of any ballistic-based weapon. Therefore, it may be a strong contender in Vanguard and Warzone. Finally, tier 37 has the Sawtooth melee weapon which will see you cut throug...

Nvidia GPU shortage 2022As originally reported by PCMag, Nvidia expects that the ongoing GPU shortage will ease around halfway into 2022. This information comes from Nvidia's Chief Financial Officer, Colette Kress. This is exciting news to anyone shopping around for a graphics card for sure.  The GPU shortage has been a massive problem for everyone involved over the last year or so, with the last stretch of 2021 being a particularly tough time for anyone looking to upgrade their graphics cards. Not only has stock been severely limited, but the little supply that is available has seen noticeable price gouging. Now, Nvidia believes that these problems may soon be over.   Could Nvidia GPUs save the day? Kress stated that "the company as a whole will take the appropriate work to continue to procure more supply," by using materials from stock that have been gathered over the last year, as well as through agreements with suppliers. In doing this, Kress believes that the company can make more GPU...

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 Exotic WeaponFortnite Chapter 3: Season 1 has finally arrived following 'The End,' which saw the island flipped upside down. The new chapter has not been short on content. With a new map equipped with new weapons, including a mythic weapon, there is something for everyone. As always, there is a set of exotic weapons on the island that you must purchase from the correct NPCs. Have your gold bars at the ready, as many fan-favorite exotic weapons are back for Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 1 The first exotic weapon you can get your hands on is the Hop Rock Dualies. This is an exotic version of the dual pistols. Apart from being able to deal some serious damage, using the pistols gives you a temporary antigravity effect. This weapon can be purchased from The Scientist NPC who roams around The Sanctuary point of interest. Once you hand over 500 gold bars, the exotic weapon will be yours. Next, the Dub is an exotic double-barreled shotgun which will give you the upper hand in close-quarter fig...

Wolfstride ReviewWolfstride is a narrative-driven, mech-battling anime adventure that features an excellent cast with a mysterious backstory. It's also got a whole lot of attitude. Sometimes it feels more like reading manga than playing a game. And this is wonderful, because the character interactions are superb. But sometimes they can get a little preachy, and all you want is to just hop in your giant mech and smash some metal faces. Wolfstride has a Cowboy Bebop feel about it. Even the main character, Dominic Shade, has a strong resemblance to Spike Spiegel. Spike's confident approach to endeavors and gang-related past are all present in Wolfstride's antihero. However, where Spike is a warrior who isn't afraid of a fight, Shade gets his hands dirty in another way. He's the money man.   It's a thankless job, but somebody's got to do it. You'll spend a large amount of your time in Wolfstride trying to earn cash to fund your team's dreams of being mech fighting champions of the world. But ...

White Shadows Review 1Ah, another two-hour cinematic platformer. White Shadows doesn't do anything differently than most of its ilk. At least, not structurally. It's a familiar monochrome experience about walking to the left or the right while occasionally pushing boxes, pulling levers, and dodging spotlights. However, it does attempt to handle some weightier topics than most. On top of that, it has the most elaborate, budget-looking details in the background that I think I've ever seen in a game like this. It's a worthwhile experience if you like cinematic platformers, just don't expect anything too out of the ordinary. White Shadows tells the story of a raven girl. There was an apocalyptic event prior to the start of the game that destroyed the animal society of yesteryear, and things were slowly rebuilt. But the wolves scapegoated the birds, who were then placed at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Now, all animals are equal, except for birds (but not really, even). The...

Microsoft did us all a solid by dropping Halo: Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer like a freaking ODST from the sky when we weren't expecting it. It was a big-boy play by Microsoft and was instantly rewarded by a tidal wave of people downloading and jumping into what many consider to be the year's biggest release. To the credit of Microsoft and 343 everything held up well and Halo: Infinite's launch wasn't plagued by the server crashes, bugs and glitches that most other launches these days get hit by. And yes, I'm looking directly at Battlefield 2032 as I type this. A few weeks on and just days ahead of the Halo: Infinite campaign launching, I'm here to review the multiplayer. Am I late to the party? Yup, but to be perfectly honest, that's because I've been playing Halo: Infinite and couldn't be arsed to write this when I could be nailing headshots like I nailed your mum. Oh God, this game brings out the teenager in me.
