PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 2:31 PM We officially know that there's going to be more Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC, and unofficially a whole lot of apparent details on that content have leaked over the past few months. Now, Ubisoft is teasing an announcement for the game early next week, and it's pretty safe to guess that this will serve as a reveal for the game's next major bit of content. The reveal will take place on Monday, December 13 at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT via YouTube. The devs simply say that "there is more to come on Assassin's Creed Valhalla". The 'save the date' video features a bunch of carved images ringed in frost on one side and flame on the other. Ubisoft is preparing the way for new Assassin's Creed Valhalla content with title update 1.4.1, due to land next week. It's a chonker - nearly 80GB on PC, owing to a file restructure aimed to reduce file size and improve performance - and will include a host of new difficulty and stealth options. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 2:09 PM Telltale Games - that is, the new Telltale Games, a new studio that's picked up the assets of the old - announced a new game based on The Expanse last night at The Game Awards. This comes two years after the studio announced The Wolf Among Us 2 at the 2019 edition of the show, and fans have been disappointed with the lack of updates. "Back in December of 2019, we revealed TWAU2 going into pre-production," the devs explain in a message to fans. "The team is hard at work, but you may have noticed we did not have anything new to say about it for The Game Awards." They tease an appearance in the next issue of Game Informer, which will have a feature on the new Telltale. "We promise to have something else you can really sink your teeth into early next year!" Teeth, wolf… You can probably do the math on that teaser, but it sounds like we'll be seeing more from Wolf Among Us 2 in the early bits of 2022. |
PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 1:37 PM Minecraft is meant for kicking back, exploring Lush Caves, and coming up with stunning recreations of your favourite things, but it's pretty hard to relax knowing your server and gaming PC are at risk from an exploit. Fortunately, developer Mojang is on top of things and has already fixed the bug in its latest 1.18.1 update, but those of you that run an older version will need to follow a couple of steps before you're completely secure. The vulnerability is tied to Log4j, an open-source logging tool that has a wide reach being built into many frameworks and third-party applications across the internet. As a result, Minecraft Java Edition is the first known program affected by the exploit, but undoubtedly won't be the last - Bedrock users, however, are safe. If the owners of your favourite server haven't given the all-clear, it might be wise to stay away for the time being. High-profile servers are the main targets, but there are reports that several attackers are scanning the internet for vulnerable servers, so there could very well be a bullseye on your back if you chance it. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 12:42 PM Xûr is Destiny 2's Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game's most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you're a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That's where we come in. As of June 12, 2020, it appears that Xûr is back to providing random rolls - so the Exotic merchant is providing more excitement than he has in a long time. Xûr appears every Friday at 9am PST / 12pm EST / 5pm GMT, and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We'll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you're reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he's selling this week. Now we're in Beyond Light territory, but Xûr's first appearances have been at the usual spots - so maybe don't expect too many surprises from the merchant in the new year of Destiny content. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 11:56 AM When is the Total War: Warhammer 3 release date? Creative Assembly finally and officially announced Warhammer 3 in May 2021, and everyone's very excited. The latest Total War strategy game and the third entry in the popular 'Total Warhammer' franchise from Creative Assembly will shift focus to the east of the Warhammer Fantasy world, with a renewed look at the forces of Chaos. Fan favourite faction Kislev returns from the first game as a fully-fledged launch nation, valiantly trying to defend the realms of man from the forces of Chaos. They are joined by the warriors of Grand Cathay, which is being brought to life for the first time in Warhammer III. The Chaos faction itself has also been fleshed out, with all four iconic 'flavours' of Chaos getting the full treatment. Plenty of other details have also been revealed since the original announcement, which we've summarised for you below. This is a living article which we will try and keep up-to-date as new information gets announced. If there's enough to talk about, we may also decide to spin-out dedicated guides for certain topics, which we'll link to below so you can access the information. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 11:51 AM Want to know where to find the Trashball memorabilia in Fortnite? The Gears of War Fortnite collaboration has arrived, and along with the Marcus Fenix and Kait Fortnite skins, there is a set of Delta-One challenges you can complete in exchange for a free spray. These challenges are only available for a limited time, so if you want to unlock the Gears cog free spray, you need to complete them before December 17. The Trashball memorabilia challenge is the final quest of five; you'll need to complete them in order, so start by collecting three Cog tags, before crouching behind a wall in Fortnite, then damaging an opponent with melee attacks and shotgun blasts. There are three possible locations where you can get the Trashball memorabilia, but we think it's far easier to go to one location in particular and grab all the swag there instead. Land at Rocky Reels and head north along the main road. Turn left and head up the mountain towards the lake. Eventually, you'll come across a couple of abandoned buses. All three pieces of memorabilia you need are close to these buses. Read on to learn where you need to go. RELATED LINKS: Fortnite V-Bucks, Fortnite Skins, Fortnite Creative Codes |
PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 11:42 AM If there were any doubts about Hearts of Iron IV being Paradox Interactive's most popular grand strategy game, I imagine they can be laid to rest with the news that the WW2 game attracted over a million active players for the first time during November 2021. This number is likely to include multiple platforms, including Steam, the standalone version, as well as potentially PC Game Pass. This also represents a new milestone, one the dev team is understandably quite pleased about. The news comes via the Hearts of Iron IV Twitter account, and the developers have released a few other choice stats as to what those chosen million have been getting up to. Apparently, they started over 400 million wars. They also fired a lot of nukes, with Germany bearing the brunt at 223,500. The United States escaped with a more manageable 97,574 nuclear attacks. The most recent 1.11 'Barbarossa' patch which accompanied the No Step Back expansion introduces the ability to build railway lines through individual provinces - within the first week the Hearts of Iron IV player base built 43,373,197 railways. The infographic also has fun facts to share covering the number of focuses completed, the number of "cryptos cracked", as well as what the top five surrenders are. Surprising no one, the top spot goes to Ethiopia. RELATED LINKS: The best Hearts of Iron 4 mods, The best WW2 games on PC, The best grand strategy games on PC |
PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 11:27 AM PC games are slowly, but surely, becoming more mobile, with the likes of Valve's Steam Deck and Razer's cloud handheld making portable big-budget gaming a possibility. Yet, at the Game Awards 2022, Google played an Uno reverse card, as the company revealed it's bringing mobile games to gaming PCs via a Play Store Windows port. Admittedly, Google's segment during The Game Awards was light on details, but it did confirm that the storefront will be coming to Windows in 2022. In a statement issued to The Verge, Google says that the service will allow players to seamlessly switch between mobile devices and Windows, thanks to the new app's cloud save compatibility. While PC games are playable on mobile thanks to streaming services like Geforce Now, Google insists it won't use the same approach to bring Play Store apps to Windows. Instead, the port will run natively within Microsoft's operating system, and it'll do so without any special integration with Windows 11. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 11:19 AM You may be surprised to see a system requirements piece for a Five Nights at Freddy's game, given how basically any gaming PC could run the previous entries in the series. However, the latest from Steel Wool Studios looks like it could give the best graphics cards from Nvidia a proper workout, upping the ante in terms of graphical fidelity and scares. There's no word on a recommended GPU just yet, but you'll want to make sure you have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 at the very least. An RTX card opens the door to ray traced reflections and global illumination, in addition to Nvidia DLSS which should help boost fps (but won't help you run away any faster from killer animatronics). Speaking of running fast, you might want to pick up one of the best SSDs for gaming to help contain Security Breach, as it'll require a sizeable 70GB chunk of storage space. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 10:05 AM November 11 was Skyrim's tenth birthday, and the day was marked by the release of a new (yep, another one) anniversary edition of Bethesda's massively popular RPG. It was strange, however, to suddenly remember that it had also been ten years since the launch of what is arguably a more influential game, FromSoftware's Dark Souls. Skyrim certainly sparked an interest in role-playing games in an entire generation of players, but Dark Souls - which came out on September 22 the same year - has created its own genre. Be that as it may, Dark Souls' tenth anniversary wasn't observed in the way Skyrim's was. One reason for that, as dep ed Jordan suggested to me, is that there have been several Souls games since the original came out, whereas any notion of an Elder Scrolls 6 release date is a distant glimmer on the horizon. Another reason is that everyone who would be celebrating Dark Souls' tenth birthday is busy getting excited about the upcoming release of Elden Ring. I'm excited about Elden Ring, too - but I have a confession to make first. I've never finished a Souls game. I've dipped my toe into several Soulsborne titles, and quite a few Soulslike games, but I've yet to play the original (or any of its sequels) through to the end. It's something I want to correct before Elden Ring comes out, and I figured the way to finally get it done was to give myself an assignment with a deadline. Welcome, dear reader, to my Dark Souls journal. |
PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 9:54 AM Searching for the best PPSh loadout in Warzone Pacific? The PPSh-41 SMG has been a staple of the Black Ops games, so it was only a matter of time before it showed up in Cold War. This weapon also features in Call of Duty Vanguard, introducing a second PPSh-41 in Warzone. The PPSh-41 wasn't very good when it first launched compared to the rest of Warzone's best SMGs, but the devs made sure it became a meta weapon. So, what makes this SMG so special? The PPSh is an excellent close to medium range option thanks to its high bullet velocity and low recoil stats. When you combine all of these important stats together, this makes the PPSh the perfect secondary gun for most loadouts. Though there are two versions of this weapon, if you're playing on Rebirth Island you may want to stick to the original weapon as it appears to be stronger. Whether you're playing on Caldera or Rebirth Island, this SMG is sure to rip through enemies if they get too close. |
PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 9:53 AM 10/12/21 Nvidia has provided a statement regarding the lack of stock following the GPU's launch. Nvidia launched its RTX 2060 12GB GPU this week, but you'd be forgiven for not realising, as the company has done little to promote the card's release. In fact, team green is yet to release an MSRP for it and even cancelled a Founders Edition version of the graphics card. Now, it appears that some major retailers are yet to receive "sufficient stock" to warrant listing Nvidia's new GPU, let alone sell it. We spoke to a representative from UK retailer Scan, who told us that "we'll be listing the RTX 2060 12GB when we have sufficient stock to sell on the website. This avoids creating the situation where we take pre-orders but cannot confirm to customers when they might receive their order". While the ongoing chip shortage and the cryptocurrency boom have severely impacted the availability of the best graphics cards, many hoped that Nvidia's decision to re-release the RTX 2060 would help alleviate stock issues. Unfortunately, it appears to have done little to address the depressing circumstances we continue to find ourselves in. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 9:28 AM Want to know where to collect the Cog tags in Fortnite? The Gears of War Fortnite collaboration has arrived, and there are some challenges to go with it that unlock a Gears of War spray when complete. The first of these quests is to collect Cog tags, which all Cog soldiers wear around their necks, the same way military personnel wear dog tags. All the Gears of War Delta-One challenges are only available for a limited time, so if you want to unlock the free spray, be sure to complete them before they disappear on December 17. The challenges must be completed in order; once you've found the Cog tags, your other missions include crouching behind a wall in Fortnite, damaging an opponent with melee attacks and shotgun blasts, and finding the Trashball memorabilia. There are a total of ten Cog tags to find in the Fortnite map, but you only need to collect three of them to finish the challenge. They're pretty small, but easy to spot as they emit a blue glow when you're nearby, and they show up on the minimap as exclamation points. PCGamesN Friday, December 10, 2021 8:05 AM A few weeks back, Genshin Impact developer Mihoyo officially announced upcoming character Yun Jin on Twitter. While we don't know exactly when she'll hit the live game just yet, we do know she's a geo polearm and the director of the Yun-Han Opera Troupe, making her a "famous figure in Liyue Harbor's opera scene". It seems Yun Jin could be coming up sometime soon, though, as the studio's now given us a fresh - if very brief - look at her during this year's The Game Awards. As you can see at around the 2:44:10 mark in the clip from last night's industry awards show below, Mihoyo has offered the first glimpse of upcoming character Yun Jin in action - well, sort of. This comes alongside some new looks at Itto and Gorou - new characters who are both now confirmed as coming on December 14 with the second banner phase of Genshin Impact's 2.3 update. We see some shots of these new faces chattering with eachother, running about, and dishing out some of their signature attacks before the clip ends with a brief teaser of Yun Jin. It's not all that detailed a reveal, so don't go expecting an ability showcase in the same vein as the others. Instead, we just see the character performing slow dance movements on a bright, stylised stage before turning to the camera with a hint of a smile. Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 12:30 PM My mates and I are doing the dishes, discussing whether we'll see the region of Noxus feature more prominently in the next season of Arcane, an animated series based on League Of Legends. In the air: soap bubbles and excitement. One of my friends asks me whether Jinx is like that in-game. "It's been a while, but I think so, yeah", I reply. I'm in the car on the way to badminton and I'm listening to the song Dynasties & Dystopia from Arcane, the show based on League Of Legends. In the air: hip-hop and a bobbing head. Something significant has happened here. All of a sudden, I am obsessed with a game I shelved years ago, and yet I have no desire to go back. Is this next-gen? More than that, probably. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 12:03 PM While not as flashy as a new 4K monitor or one of the best graphics cards, an SSD can make a surprisingly big difference to your PC gaming experience. Storing their data in semiconductor cells rather than old-timey spinning plates, SSDs have considerably faster transfer speeds than traditional hard disks, and so can slash loading times right down. This also makes them generally more expensive, although prices are coming down all the time, this guide to the best SSD deals right now could help you find a particularly good bargain. |

Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 11:50 AM I was wary of the possibility that White Shadows would be one of those platformers. You know the ones. The grim and depressing ones that despise you, with a child and a Stasi man, where the Stasi is actually memories of your daughter, and the child has to throw the puppy in a blender to get over a hedge. With its stark monochrome look, ominous industrial environments, and dystopian themes, I can't really deny that White Shadows is of that genre. But while I normally get bored of depressing platformers within half an hour, I enjoyed this whole thing and even the credits. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 11:30 AM When I heard that Quantic Dream are making a Star Wars game, I felt much as I did when I found out my home town Swindon had been twinned with Disney World: you'd have expected Disney to Google some stuff first. Still, last night at The Game Awards we all got a first look at Star Wars Eclipse in the form of a cinematic trailer. And let's be honest: that trailer is cracking. It's really good. And it's so good that I think we all need to remember that there is absolutely no way QD aren't going to spectacularly boot this. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 11:00 AM Needs must, gentle friends, needs must, and in particular I need to once more head into the dank and dreary evidence basement of the RPS treehouse. Here, at the behest of our very kind supporters, I must navigate a strange maze of specimen tanks, suggestions of whiskers, tentacles and odd wings occasionally stirring behind the glass as I pass. Eventually I will reach a row of grey filing cabinets, locate the right drawer, and tug it open, the scream of rusted metal echoing through the dark room. I will spend some time rifling through the papers within, growing more and more frantic as I hear the slow tread of heavy footsteps approaching. I must find the right file, but also I must escape in time! I haven't been caught yet. Today I escaped with the fifth episode of The Nate Files supporters-only podcast. It's about speculative biology. Oh no. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 10:30 AM Every so often, Matthew and I will be browsing BBC iPlayer in our never-ending search for something to watch and we'll get served up some clips from the Live From The BBC comedy series. It's a few years old now, first airing in 2016 before finishing in 2018, but there is one particular episode we will watch again and again. That episode is by the Bristol-based comic Mat Ewins, who in this set appears as a self-styled adventurer, film maker and amateur video game maker promoting his latest work Adventureman 7, a sort of budget Indiana Jones meets Tomb Raider kind of deal. He's one of those comedians who uses a lot of multimedia in their sets, playing daft, self-made videos to help deliver punch lines. There's plenty of that nonsense in Ewins' set here, but for this occasion he also created an entire video game companion piece, styled up as a mid-90s, almost N64 / PS1-style affair in which - unsurprisingly - comedy antics ensue. Matthew and I love it to bits, and I thought that in this, the 25th anniversary year of Lara Croft, we should remember the incredible Adventureman and all of the brilliantly-bad video games he was in we never got to play. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 10:00 AM If you're a motorist in south west England, chances are you've probably encountered (or at least heard of) Swindon's Magic Roundabout. It's a monstrous concoction of five roundabouts smoshed together, and as far as I can see it serves no purpose other than to terrify bamboozled drivers up and down the country. I'm not kidding. In 2009 it was named the fourth scariest junction in Britain, after London's equally mega roundabout at Marble Arch, the M8 junctions in central Glasgow and Birmingham's Gravelly Hill, affectionately known as Spaghetti Junction. It's the kind of nightmarish urban planning I try to avoid when building my own road networks in Mini Motorways, the excellent sequel to minimalist transport sim Mini Metro, but its new Challenge City update puts all four of these real-world asphalt atrocities to shame. In this new mode, each city gets a bunch of new rules and conditions you'll need to abide by, and after playing an early version of it this week, there's one challenge that's truly diabolical. Not only does it limit the number of road tiles at your disposal, but it does so in favour of, wait for it, unlimited roundabouts. |
Rock Paper Shotgun Latest Articles Feed Friday, December 10, 2021 8:03 AM About five hours into Icarus, the new survival game from Day Z's Dean Hall and co, I had a moment. I'd just been savaged by a bear, and had morosely jogged back over to my corpse from the respawn drop ship several miles away. It was dark, and also stormy, and also there were more bears. I desperately needed to find and reclaim my pack, stuffed with meat, tools and building supplies, which was proving difficult because your corpse just appears as a small pile of excruciatingly indiscernible brown sandbags. As the minutes dragged on, my mind flashed back to the time I spent half an hour searching for my wireless earphones amidst gails of horizontal rain on Brighton beach, shivering and still half-soaked from a foolhardy morning swim. The experience was so horrible it transcended mere discomfort and turned into, on some level, genuinely enjoyable farce. That's Icarus, that is. It's obviously flawed, wildly frustrating and frequently janky, but it's also somehow simultaneously good enough to have kept me playing into the early morning on multiple nights without even realizing the time. It's like Schrodinger's cat, except if the cat was a bear made of draining thirst meters. I went on to spend another 20 hours (mostly) happily within its grasp. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 10, 2021 2:30 PM In the chaotic flurry of game announcements during last night's The Game Awards, you may have missed the changes coming to Game Pass. Microsoft revealed in a rather musical trailer that Xbox Game Pass for PC has dropped the 'Xbox.' Now, the service for PC users is just PC Game Pass. Frankly, it's a good change, as it reduces any confusion with the console name. Microsoft doesn't appear keen on using the Xbox name as a universal brand across its services. But it is still part of the Xbox brand, just named different. The new name was shown briefly at the end of trailer covering the name change. It featured Dave & GaTa, two people whose identities completely escape me. But I guess their known musicians, as they ended off the trailer rapping about PC games. Honestly, I was more distracted by all the game codes that plastered the trailer. The PC Game Pass Twitter account followed up with a bit more info. Well, I suppose it's arguably importa... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 10, 2021 2:00 PM Final Fantasy VII Remake and its Intergrade DLC is coming to PC next week. Announced at The Game Awards on Thursday, it'll come as an Epic Games Store exclusive on December 16, for $69.99. This news may not come as a complete surprise to anyone who's been following the recent leaks and rumors. Particularly, the Nvidia GeForce NOW leak that made reference to several unreleased games and ports. Of course, the contents of that leak still remain mostly unconfirmed, and people should take it with a healthy dose of salt. Time to buy Final Fantasy VII…again Final Fantasy VII Remake was already an impressive looking game on PS4 and PS5. Now, with the power in modern PCs, it's probably going to look and perform even better. That is, if you have a PC that's powerful enough to run it on its highest settings. It recommends an Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100, 12 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1080 or Radeon RX 5700. These specs are recommended if you pla... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 10, 2021 1:30 PM Members of Kinetic Games have been teasing the next inevitable update for its spooky, ghost-hunting game. Following the new Trello changes, it was clear that the team was hinting to something big this week. Well, today, Phasmophobia got a new update called Cursed Possessions. It adds a Summoning Circle, a Voodoo Doll, a Haunted Mirror, and a new ghost. Oh, and you have to say "goodbye" to the updated Ouija Board… "or else." The Phasmophobia Cursed Possessions update gives you new tools to tackle your hunts. The Summoning Circle can be used to call forth and trap ghosts, but it only works for a short time. Tarot Cards are also included, coming in at a pack of 10. I don't currently know what the cards do, as I haven't played the update yet. But it sounds like they can change the game in a number of ways. There's also a new Haunted Mirror, which is just a perfect addition to the horror game. According to the patch notes, it's a R... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 10, 2021 12:30 PM Along with Season One of Vanguard, Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific and the brand new Caldera map has arrived. There are new points of interest just waiting to be explored, new vehicles, and more. Following the integration with Warzone Pacific, you can now use Vanguard weapons in the battle royale. The STG44 is among one of the more popular primary weapon choices right now. Understandably so, as it is the go-to assault rifle in Vanguard multiplayer. With the best attachments, you can build a show-stopping STG44 class to take into your next Warzone Pacific match. The STG44 is best suited to medium and longer range gunfights. However, the assault rifle does have some recoil to its name. If you are looking for a class to combat this, then there is no need to look any further. This class will focus on bringing down the recoil by enhancing the accuracy and control. Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific STG44 class Muzzle: Mercury Silencer Barrel: VDD 760mm 05B Stock: VDD 34S Weighted Underb... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Friday, December 10, 2021 11:30 AM Last night, The Game Awards 2021 took place. As always, there were some announcements of brand new games and new trailers for upcoming titles. During the show, viewers were treated to a closer look at Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. But perhaps the most surprising announcement was a sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. With it being a decade since the first Space Marine launched, fans were left with very little hope that the franchise would return. The reveal of Space Marine 2, along with a trailer, has seen all our Christmases come at once. The first Space Marine game left players on the edge of their seats with the fate of the protagonist, Captain Titus, left up to the imagination. Now, Captain Titus is back in action for Space Marine 2, and it is fair to say his return has been long overdue. In Space Marine 2, you will encounter hoards of Tyranids taking over the world. Fight back with the range of lethal abilities and weaponry that will be at your disposal. Y... |
