Kotaku Wednesday, March 16, 2022 9:30 PM I know Mario games have involved the beach before, but those times—Mario Sunshine especially—were about work, or quests, and quests are work. This series of illustrations by Léo Chérel instead imagines what it would be like if the brothers (and friends) were all able to take a proper, well-deserved vacation. |
Kotaku Wednesday, March 16, 2022 8:15 PM Late last year, Pepe the Frog creator Matt Furie decided to run an NFT auction, selling off an image of the controversial character in which it was waist-deep in a pool, its asscrack peeping over the surface. Everything that has happened since is exactly how you would imagine such an auction in the insipid Web3 space… |

Kotaku Wednesday, March 16, 2022 4:20 PM It's no exaggeration to say that, in terms of video games, 2022 is off to a banner start. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 6:41 PM The Lost Ark weekly update has been detailed, with fixes for a selection of issues related to daylight savings time, and compensation for players who got into the Tytalos Guardian Raid. While it's a pretty minor update, it will still require four hours of maintenance - so be prepared for a lengthy break if you were looking for a late-night Lost Ark session. This weekly update takes place on March 17 at 12am PDT / 3am EDT / 7am GMT, with an expected four hours of maintenance for all servers and regions. (That would mean servers are likely to return at 4am PDT / 7am EDT / 11am GMT.) A hotfix earlier this week was intended to fix a number of in-game timers that were an hour off due to the daylight savings time switch in the US. That hotfix did not work, so now this maintenance is intended to fix the issue. Because of some confusion over when the Arkesia Grand Prix was taking place, players are also getting 3,000 Grand Prix event tokens to compensate for the mix-up. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 5:27 PM You might've seen that the Frostpunk 2 release date has leaked. However, the devs behind the grim city-building game say that the leaked info is "false". The date for Frostpunk 2 would've been January 2, 2024, but whether the actual launch comes sooner or later than that remains to be seen. "As we heard today, information about the Frostpunk 2 launch date leaked into the public space," the devs say in a semi-in-fiction tweet. "We assure you that any pieces of information that aren't coming straight from the Administration offices are false. Thank you for your attention. Liars shall be punished." Despite the bluster about liars being punished, the 2024 date likely comes from developer 11 Bit Studios itself. Developers are forced to input a date when they add a game to the Steam store, even if it's a fake, placeholder date only intended to be visible in Valve's back-end systems. A recent change to the Steam API has made those placeholder dates visible to third-party tracking services like SteamDB. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 5:01 PM Co-op game Vermintide 2 just got its big 4.6 update, which adds in some new modifiers for enemies, but also folds in a bunch of the Warhammer End Times game's most popular mods. These run the gamut from a new emote wheel to easier ways to manage your inventory, and taken together, they're a terrific refresh to the now four-year-old game. There are a bunch of additional options and improvements to Vermintide 2's UI/UX, including an option to reduce or remove camera sway during melee combat, which is great if the default setting makes you queasy or feels disorienting. You can opt to add more detail to the UI, with the precise values for health and remaining ammo displayed. Your crosshair can provide more information now, too, with options for an indication when you've killed an enemy or thrown out some friendly fire. In addition to the standard social wheel, you can now pull up a second wheel for emote poses. Once cast, these will pull the camera back to a third-person point of view, so you'll be able to get some great group shots with your team using this new option. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 4:32 PM Minecraft lava is undoubtedly one of the worst surprises to stumble across in the sandbox game. You can be happily walking through a system of caves, just minding your own business and maybe trying to find another bunch of resources, and then bam, you're on fire, and everything you own is gone. It's harrowing, but after a few hours of gameplay, you can overcome that problem and even master lava and start incorporating it into your builds. You can do a lot with lava too, like making it a cool floor feature, or using it as a way to defend your base from the hordes of monsters that can besiege you in the night. The only trouble is that the bubbling noise can be kind of annoying. However, it turns out that you can actually get rid of that without impeding the lava itself - just by using string. This incredibly odd interaction was discovered by Reddit user Henry1691. (Judging by the username, I'm amazed Henry is playing Minecraft at the age of 331.) They put the post up showing a video of the interaction, and, well, it's really quite odd, even as far as Minecraft goes. The usually bubbly lava becomes eerily quiet the moment it's covered in string, and the string doesn't even burst into flames. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 3:53 PM Baldur's Gate 3 is in its final year of development, and developer Larian Studios continues to add content and squash bugs as the sprawling Dungeons & Dragons RPG game wends its way toward its full launch. Today, a new hotfix has arrived that addresses a rather critical glitch: in short, it stops everyone in the Druid Grove from hating you if you've visited a certain area in the game. During Act One of Baldur's Gate 3, you can accept a quest called Find the Missing Shipment, which unlocks the Zhentarim Hideout if you complete it. There's plenty to do there, such as trade with the merchant Brem, but some players found that there was a hidden cost to visiting: anyone who had been to the Zhentarim Hideout was marked as a criminal or trespasser by the residents of the Druid Grove. "We've put in a polite word with the druids, or at least talked with the animals in our local petting zoo, and they should be a little more understanding now," Larian says in the latest round of patch notes. PCGamesN Wednesday, March 16, 2022 6:06 PM I did not know that I wanted a wrestling RPG in Earthbound's visual style until I saw the press release for WrestleQuest today. Officially announced during today's ID@Xbox Showcase, WrestleQuest is a retro-style RPG where you try to make it to the top of the wrestling world, meeting a host of actual wrestling legends like Randy Savage and Andre the Giant as you go. This is a turn-based RPG that "mixes real-time action with tactical choices", according to a press release. Screenshots show wrestling matches where you have to control the hype of the crowd, as well as a karma system tracking whether you're a heel or a face. A number of real wrestlers will make licensed appearances in WrestleQuest, including 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Booker T, Andre the Giant, Jake 'the Snake' Roberts, Diamond Dallas Page, Jeff Jarrett, and "many more". Developer Mega Cat Studios is primarily known for creating original, modern games on platforms like the NES and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, so they certainly know how to make use of those retro game vibes. |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, March 16, 2022 7:15 PM Normally, turn-based RPGs stick closely to tried and true traditions when it comes to their premises. They typically take place in some kind of fantasy setting in which a sword-wielding protagonist recruits a party of like-minded, magic-casting heroes to save the world from a great evil. Although this formula has and continues to work well, some fans may understandably want to experience something a little more out of the ordinary. Enter WrestleQuest, a game recently announced at today's ID@Xbox showcase. The game fuses the gameplay of turn-based RPGs with the hot-blooded, theatrical world of professional wrestling. Those interested in this wacky premise can check out the WrestleQuest announcement trailer in all its glory. The trailer certainly has a lot to latch onto for fans of both turn-based RPGs and wrestling. WrestleQuest portrays its over-the-top characters and world in a clean, crisp pixel art style bolstered by simple, yet fluid animations. The game stars Randy "... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, March 16, 2022 6:45 PM It's been a long time since the Tony Hawk games set the standard for and dominated extreme sports gaming. There have been several snowboarding franchises over the years that have attempted a frozen twist on the established formula. Shredders is very much an indie game and it had to cut some corners, which it doesn't even try to hide — instead blatantly lampshading in spots. I was able to put a couple of hours into it, although my progress was stifled by a very high bar as far as tricks are concerned. But the question stands: is Shredders worth it? Shredders, believe it or not, has a story with characters, voice acting, and a lot of humor. Cutscenes frequently accompany the missions and I often found myself laughing at the dialogue. The game's writing is honestly quite funny. You play as the second half of a YouTube channel named Shredageddon (a name the game itself occasionally derides) alongside your partner, the lovable idiot Scotty. You and Scotty are scou... |
PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, March 16, 2022 5:25 PM Graphics card availability has improved significantly over the past few weeks. This recent trend marks a stark contrast to what's been about an 18 month slog of terrible conditions for gamers interested in upgrading their PCs. Although things are still far from normal, where you can expect to find a new graphics card for a reasonable price (compared to previous generations), the recent trend is still welcome and perhaps a sign of better things to come. As of now, those interested in high end Nvidia graphics cards can even find RTX 3080 12 GB and 3080 Ti models in stock for list prices near MSRP. Manufacturers pulled a bit of a stunt with the RTX 3080 12 GB model and failed to list any MSRP. As of today, pricing seems to start around $1,250 for certain models, with others reaching up to $1600 or more. No matter how you slice it, these cards are expensive compared to the original RTX 3080 pricing, but some may say $1,250 is a steal compared to previous scalper pricing. Nv... |

PC Invasion - FeedDDD Wednesday, March 16, 2022 4:30 PM If you happen to like both zombies and feudal Japan, then Ed-0: Zombie Uprising just might appeal to you. Developed by Lancarse Ltd. and published by D3PUBLISHER Inc., Ed-0: Zombie Uprising will see players partake in 3D action rogue-lite gameplay as they fend off a zombie apocalypse in Edo-era Japan. A recently released trailer props up this goofy premise with over-the-top violence and corny delivery for the narration. Luckily, players won't have to wait long at all to participate in the carnage, as Ed-0: Zombie Uprising will see a Steam Early Access release on April 4. According to a press release, Ed-0: Zombie Uprising will have players control one of three traditional Japanese characters to fight off the zombie hordes. One such character, Mumyo, slices zombies apart using his samurai fighting style, while Raiden the sumo wrestler slaps foes into submission. Along with Matoka, a ninja who can footstool off of enemies and glide through the air, they make their way through ra... |
