Hades and Risk of Rain 2 come together in co-op roguelike, out now

A distinctive visual style goes a long way. With so many videogames coming out all the time, the lush artwork of something like Hades and the Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic of a game like Cult of the Lamb help make a new roguelike stand out in its genre. This is definitely the case with Vellum, a fantasy roguelike that sets itself apart with a unique look, and which has just launched in Early Access on Steam.

Kotaro Uchikoshi Tease References AI: The Somnium Files

Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files series creator Kotaro Uchikoshi is teasing something on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The tease seems to be related to the AI: The Somnium Files series, specifically the second game.

Uchikoshi shared the aforementioned post on his English-speaking account. The caption that accompanies the video is a block of text known as "mojibake," that seems to reference the events of AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative. Additionally, the video featured on the post depicts TV color bars garbled and distorted in a rhythmic pattern, with the NHKE logo on the top right of the screen. Uchikoshi previously shared a similar video of TV color bars sliding in diagonal direction back in back in February 26, 2024.

You can check out Kotaro Uchikoshi's post referencing AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative here:

Note: The text below contains spoilers for AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative.

Mojibake text appears at various critical points in the AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative game, specifically when playing as co-protagonist Kuruto Ryuki. When decoded, the mojibake featured on Uchikoshi's post turns into readable Japanese text. The text references the simulation theory that is featured as a central theme of the game.

AI: The Somnium Files and its sequel AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative are available for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

Splatoon 3 Developers Discuss Acht, Pearl, Marina in Side Order DLC

In a new Famitsu interview, the Splatoon 3 development team revealed various details about Acht, Pearl, and Marina in the recent Side Order DLC. The members of the team that participated in the talk are Director and Art Director Seita Inoue, Side Order DLC Director Kenji Matsumoto, and Sound Director Toshiyuki Sudo. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

When asked about why Acht has a bandage on their left hand in the Splatoon 3 Side Order DLC, Inoue revealed that Acht had also tried to conquer the Spire of Order a little bit before Agent 8 arrived to the virtual world, but was injured due to not being as mobile as they thought.

Regarding Pearl appearing as a drone in the DLC, Matsumoto said that he wanted Pearl to offer support to the player during gameplay, as well as give players the ability to glide. By that point in development, it had been decided that Pearl would appear in the story, so it was easy for the developers to combine these two ideas.

Inoue also said that the different stages in the Side Order DLC are inspired by Marina's childhood memories as well as other octolings' memories. The Spire of Order is a factory that stores memory cubes to be grayscaled and eventually incinerated, and the snow-like substance falling around the Order Sector is actually ashes from the incinerated memory cubes.

Additionally, Inoue said that the training school that Marina and Acht attended specializes in training elite Octoling-Amazons. Octarian schools are also divided between schools for regular Octarians and for Octolings.

Splatoon 3 and its Side Order DLC are immediately available for the Nintendo Switch.

Dragons Dogma 2 Review BrantThere's a hidden relationship mechanic in Dragon's Dogma 2 where you can raise Affinity with major characters and random NPCs alike, even romancing some of them if you manage to strengthen your bond enough. The Affinity system is obtuse and hard to understand without a guide just like it was in the first game, but the general idea still remains the same. If you want someone to like you, you have to do their quests and shower them with gifts. Every NPC has different tastes though, so you'll want to give that special someone something they like instead of something they hate. How to Give Gifts in Dragon's Dogma 2 To give a gift to an NPC in Dragon's Dogma 2, just hold the O/B button on PlayStation/Xbox to talk to them. While they're speaking, press the Square/X button to open the gift menu. You can repeat this as many times as you like and give anything in your inventory to the person you're talking to. Make sure to give them something ...
