An unusual email hit my inbox earlier today. It was from PR for the makers of Splitgate 2, a free-to-play portal shooter that released just a few days ago and stirred up drama with a MAGA-infused meme at Summer Game Fest from studio head Ian Proulx. "The CEO of 1047 Games has issued a video statement and apology to…

It's been nearly a decade since Ubisoft first launched Rainbow Six Siege. In the time since, the multiplayer FPS has improved enormously, attracting a devoted audience and cementing itself as one of the best options in a genre that also includes PUBG, Valorant, and Marvel Rivals. To keep that momentum going into its tenth year and beyond, Ubisoft has put out a sweeping overhaul of Siege with today's launch of Rainbow Six Siege X. Even though it's only been out for a few hours, this decision seems to have been a good one, as the game's already attracted a massive player base and strong reviews on Steam.

Dune Awakening only officially launched earlier today, and it already seems to be a hit. A combination of survival games like Valheim or Enshrouded with an MMO on the scale of World of Warcraft or Fallout 76, the new take on Frank Herbert's sci-fi universe seems to be finding a large audience interested in exploring the setting recently re-popularized by a pair of blockbuster films. After a solid start with an 'Advanced Access' version available to players who purchased its Deluxe or Ultimate Edition last week, the game has now come out for every buyer and is already attracting a huge audience and warm reviews.

Herdling is an odd little game. How do you begin to sell the idea that a (presumably emotional) herding simulator might be quite interesting? Yes, people love their farming sims as a band aid form of escapism, but a lot of those games are in the first instance much more about farming and not farm animals, nor the way you interact with said animals. Herdling is all about that, as the whole goal is to guide a group of strange horned beasties up a mountain.

We don't really get to write about Playdate, that bespoke games console with a built in crank, here on RPS very much because it is very much not a computer (though former EIC Katharine did review it back when it launched). Well, not in the way we need it to be for our purposes. But I have an excuse to do so today! Over the weekend at the PC Gaming Show, a trailer for the Panic-published, faux-streaming service Blippo+ was shown off, one that captured my attention quite quickly.

This category is the sixth out of 12 in the contest, with the latest reveal marking the midway point for the competition. Clair Obscur Expedition 33 Patch Adjusts Dodge and Parry Timing

The Story difficulty in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will involve more manageable battles, as a new patch included dodge and parry time adjustments to make the windows for reacting larger. There are also options to change settings to arrange for a greater challenge if you are in Act 3. All are present after updating to 1.3.0.

Both of the Story difficulty changes in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are designed to make things a bit more manageable if someone experienced issues mastering dodge and parry timing. Both are now more forgiving. You get 40% larger windows to respond to an enemy by moving out of the way or counter their attack. Also, if you do get hit, it won't hurt as bad. While previously, an attack that hit would do 60% of the damage it would on other difficulty levels, now it will only deal 50%.

As for making the game more difficult, you can set caps on your damage or adjust the health of enemies. With characters, you get two options for damage. You can make it so attacks top out at either 99,999 or 999,999. With enemies' health, there are six different variants, all of which increase their vitality. The minimum increase is twice as much HP as normal, while the maximum is up to 100x.

Here are the full Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 patch nots for 1.3.0, which Sandfall shared on Steam. Note that there are spoilers in them, if you haven't gotten to about Act 3.

Simon Rematch

  • Players can now rematch Simon after defeating him!

Story Mode Balancing.

Story mode is our easiest difficulty setting.

  • Parry and dodge windows increased by 40%
  • Incoming damage reduced by 10% to 50%

Challenge Modifiers (Act III onward)
At flag checkpoints, players can now:

  • Limit max player damage to 99,999 or 999,999
  • Multiply enemy HP by x2, x5, x10, x20, x50, or x100

Bug Fixes (297 total, notable examples below)

  • Verso now gains Perfection correctly when in reserve
  • Simoso weapon will no longer cause lag due to memory leaks
  • General polish across collisions, terrain, and scripting
  • Cutscenes scale properly on ultrawide and non-standard resolutions
  • Fixed a bug where loading a save after resting at a different location would spawn the player at coordinate zero
  • Placeholder textures removed near Chromatic Boucheclier and his battlearena
  • Fixed performance drops from repeated resting on certain levels
  • Crash after dialogue sequences resolved
  • Fixed stability issues after extended play sessions
  • French voiceover now plays correctly when selected

System & Settings

  • Audio can now be muted or unmuted when the game is running in the background
  • Mouse and joystick sensitivity improvements
  • Manual save file renaming is now supported (EXPEDITION_XX format required. XX must be a value between 00 and 09.)

Localization

  • Rolling credits updated (added creature VO, refined IOI section)
  • Font size adjustments for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean
  • New strings added and minor text corrections implemented

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Latest Hololive Nendoroid Is a Casual Usada Pekora Figure

Back in 2024, Good Smile Company announced there would be casual figures of Hololive Vtubers joining the Nendoroid line, with one being Usada Pekora. Now we know that will debut in Japan in October 2025, followed by a worldwide release in Q1 2026. It will cost ¥7,500/$49.99. There is no Good Smile Company Store exclusive this time, so anyone who chooses to purchase from other retailers won't miss out on any accessories.

There are three face plates with this figure, and all of them feature various stages of joy. One is a standard smiling face. The other is designed to show more excitement, as she has shiny eyes. The third features closed eyes and a wide, open-mouth smile. To go along with the casual nature, she's wearing blue gym shoes, a white sailor dress, a blue jumper over it, and a white hair bow that looks like rabbit ears. She also comes with a milk carton she can hold and extra hand and arm parts. She also comes with a circular stand with her name and a white bunny icon on it.

Here are some example photos of the Usada Pekora Casual Outfit Nendoroid in the Hololive figure collection:

This is the second Usada Pekora figure in this line. The first Nendoroid came out in 2022. That's still available through places like Amazon for the standard $54.99 price.

The Usada Pekora Casual Outfit Nendoroid will debut in Japan in October 2025, and the Hololive figure will show up worldwide in Q1 2026. Pre-orders are open until July 23, 2025. You can see the performer at Pekora Ch. on YouTube.

Fortnite Robin NPC

Fortnite's Chapter 6 Season 3: Super season is officially underway, and with it comes a team of superheroes and villains to shake up the world. While you may not see Batman anywhere, you can find Robin walking around a particular part of Fortnite's map.

Robin's location in Fortnite

You can find Robin in Rolling Blossoms Farm. You'll find this location directly northeast of Demon's Domain and south of Utopia City. It's an unnamed landmark, but you can differentiate it using its colorful farm fields on your in-game map.

Once you arrive at Rolling Blossoms Farm, you'll need to head toward the large building on its northwest corner. As you approach it, you'll see the specialist dialogue icon appear on your map, indicating Robin's exact location. Although he'll walk around during your match, he usually doesn't leave this building.

If you don't see Robin in this location, there's a chance someone has already found him. Although many people will approach him for quests and then move on, they may either eliminate him or hire him as a specialist, causing him to leave and follow them. If this happens, you'll have to wait until your next match to talk to him.

That said, if you're trying to complete your seasonal quests, your best bet is to visit Robin right from the start. That way, even if someone else lands at Rolling Blossoms Farm, you can eliminate them before talking to Robin and finishing his mission.

What does Robin do in Fortnite?

Robin is a quest and specialist NPC in Fortnite. You'll need to speak to him to progress through the Robin's Training story quest. During the mission, he'll teach you about the Wingshot Grappler and provide some objectives that'll test your skills with it.

Accompanying this quest is his first service: a Wingshot Grappler shop. In each of your Fortnite matches, you can buy one Wingshot Grappler from Robin for 600 gold bars. You can do this to progress through Robin's quest or as a quick way to get your hands on this useful traversal tool.

You can also hire him as a specialist for 500 gold bars. By hiring him, he'll run around with you during the rest of your Fortnite match and attack nearby enemies. Although he isn't quite as skillful as an average player, he can certainly pull his weight, especially if you're low health and need just a little more damage output. He can also act as a meat shield if needed.

splitgate 2 guy in "Make FPS Great Again" hat

The Splitgate 2 developer who wore a "Make FPS Great Again" hat on stage at Summer Game Fest is back with another video, this time apologizing for wearing it.

In the three-minute-long video posted on Twitter/X, 1047 Games CEO and co-founder Ian Proulx said it's "really freakin' hard as an independent studio to break through the noise," which is totally understandable. Splitgate 2 debuted a trailer at The Game Awards and it "didn't really have an impact," so the studio needed to make a splash, he said. And so it did.

https://twitter.com/Splitgate/status/1932502832281694366

But not quite in the way that he might have hoped. Proulx was lambasted on social media for the hat, which is clearly a play on the "Make America Great Again" hat notoriously worn by U.S. president Donald Trump and his followers.

"We did not intend for this to be taken in any political way whatsoever," he said. "And I'm not an idiot, obviously I knew there would be some level of controversy, but we really saw this as a meme that was kind of stating our truth, which is we do want to improve this genre. We are disappointed with the state of the genre, and so we took it as a meme that we thought would not be nearly as received the way it was."

This is a situation where intention ended up being fairly irrelevant; when you imitate something inherently political, whether it's a meme or not, it is also going to be political in its nature. And so, instead of any talk about Splitgate 2 being about its new battle royale mode, everyone could only talk about the hat.

"And so I want to apologize," he said. "You don't have to believe me, but the truth is, I am sorry. And the reason I'm sorry is because of what this has done to the community. The most important thing to me right now is I want to have an amazing community, that is the reason I built 1047, it's the reason I love my job."

Instead of splitting gates, the hat has split the community, he said, and that's what he regrets the most. He reiterated that he stood by his "intent" behind the hat that the developer wants to improve the FPS genre that's "in a bad state," acquiescing that he understands that it's not just about intent, but about "impact."

Image via 1047 Games

And apparently 1047 Games had enough of the impact of the controversy, because the statement was put out today and I even got a PR email pointing me towards it. But now, the replies to the video are filled with people roasting him for apologizing, and so it seems as though there's no real winning in this situation other than hoping the controversy fades and the game's good enough to stand on its own.

As for Splitgate 2, the game is pretty cool, I guess, which is what the focal point should be, but everything changed when Proulx wore that hat. The game's not really for me, personally, but the BR mode has brought some players into the game on PC and mainly on console. The Splitgate account posted in replies that the game's player base "has more than tripled since beta."

Splitgate 2 currently has a "Mixed" review rating on Steam.
